Default Kernel 1.5 vs 3.40 does it matter?

Does the kernel version effect Map This! or the GPS performance at all?

Nope, but I'd keep it at 1.50 It's easier for homebrew purposes, and doesn't affect anything else!

    No no no no nonononononono.....

It does matter very much depending on your version of MapThis! and the GPS device you're using. If you're using a PC GPS with the serial cable then you need the 1.50 version of MapThis! with serial GPS support. (I forget the current version number)

If you're using the Sony PSP-290 GPS which plugs into the PSP usb port then you need the 2.71/3.xx kernel version with support for that device.

Both the kernel and the version of MapThis! that you use both depend on the GPS device you are using. It matters because of how the GPS communicates with the PSP. The Sony made GPS needs drivers which are only available to 2.71 and higher kernels. The serial GPS uses drivers built in to MapThis! and ones that have been available since kernel 1.0.
