Hi uberjack,
One word: AWESOME. Or better yet A.W.E.S.O.M.E.
The update to the sound emulation and addition of PAL mode is really great. I'm truely enjoying the whole experience now, from the clean menu navigation, to the super smooth emulation, to the transparent keyboard overlay and very cool save state support (this is going to help me in ending a few games which I never was able to in the past!) This is how emulation should be
As for future improvements, I found the following little "bugs":
- PAL mode runs great at ~50fps without vsync, but with vsync enabled it only reaches ~48fps max (so not the 'proper' ~50fps), even with 333Mhz setting. This is while NTSC with vsync reaches ~60fps with most games. I'm in doubt if this is a bug, or is PAL vsync mode just harder on the CPU?
- There is a little typo in the config screen with vsync. In the bottom of the screen the help text says the option is to reduce "shearing", you probably mean "tearing" here.
- The standard memory mapper your emulation uses seems to be 128kB. In the real world people extended their hardware memory mappers with 256kB or even 512KB. Some demos provide extra features with a bigger memory mapper and even some floppy versions of Konami game cartridges need a 256kB or even 512kB memory mapper (like floppy conversions of Konami MSX2 roms and Solid Snake respectively). As such it would be great if you could add a memory mapper size option in the config menu. A neat little bonus would be if the correct RAM sizes (for video ram and normal ram) would be shown on the MSX2 logo boot-up. But that probably needs a little poking in the MSX system ROM :-)
- I also found compatibility issues with some games, but it's best to save these for a later time, because you probably already have a list of 'to do' for yourself.
It would be great if you could let us know what your plans are for future versions btw! That also might enhance your website if you put up a little section of things to do / planned improvements. Well just a thought...
Thanks again for a great emulator!
Okay, after testing a bit more I realised that my earlier comment about the vsync wasn't entirely correct, so I've edited my previous message to reflect what I really meant to say![]()
can it work on the 3.02 oe-b
