Supermarket giant Tesco is to produce its own ‘iPad-like’ tablet in time for Christmas, The Sunday Times reports.
While no exact specifications or prices have been released yet, the tablet is said to be "high-quality" with Tesco stating that it wishes its tablet to be like Amazon’s Kindle Fire; the cheapest model of which is £129.
It is claimed the device will come pre-loaded with apps for Tesco’s online grocery shopping and banking services, as well as featuring access to its Blinkbox movie-streaming service.
Tesco’s tablet is said to be released in time for Christmas, in order to try and rival Apple and Amazon, who it may see as a threat to entertainment and media sales.
The reports are surprising, with Tesco having recently announced that it would be scaling back on electrical devices so that it could focus on other areas.
