Default PC on PS3 without CD?

Is there any way to place a computer operating system on my PS3 without using a disk? And, does it have to be Linux? Do you think i could just use something like a windows XP or Vista disc? I know little to nothing about PC emulation on PS3, i just heard it was possible.

Please could anyone tell me about this and help me out a little?

hmm no... You need a blank DVD (4.7GB) and download a Linux OS for PS3... I will recomend YDL (Yellow Dog Linux) about 3.5GB

As suggested above I would go with Ubuntu. Once you get into it, you'll probably fine you prefer it over windows... At least I do. You can order the latest version of ubuntu FREE! .... but you will have to wait a few weeks for the free shipping. If you look on ubuntu's website you will find that option somewhere.
