Custom firmware is what you want, the latest one right now is 3.40 OE. What is your current version at the moment?
Just picked up a PSP and am wanting to do just a few things on it:
1. Run emus for the 2600, Colecovision, NES and GBA.
2. Play a few of the PSP games - Vice City series, some baseball ones, etc.
3. Still have Wi-Fi capabilities
So, which firmware will allow me to do all three? I've seen that some of the newer official release PSP games will automatically upgrade the firmware for you (how nice) when you run them. Don't want that since, from what I've gathered so far here, you can't run emus on "newer" versions of firmware.
TIA!

Thank you, I'll have to look into the custom ones then.I don't have it with me right now - I'll post which version it has once I can. Thanx.
One other thing...you know that Network Update icon? NEVER use it. Or any Sony updates. Their updates are full of $#@!ty security patches. Custom firmwares override them.
You don't need to know my mental status. You probably don't want to, either.

Thanx. Yeah, had an XBox that was screwed by one of the DASH UPDATE files before - had forgotten to replace that file on the HD for that particular game rip with a bogus one. Never use an official update!![]()
i also just picked up a psp but made the stupid mistake of using the network update. now i have the 3.40 firmware.
so... am i completely out of luck for playing game backups and homebrew games?
You can't downgrade from $ony's official 3.40?
No, it is not possible to downgrade from firmware version 3.40 at this time.
Aaah. Good to know. How do you know which version of the FW you have on it now?
