Reply With QuoteYou should be able to boot from it, I havent seen a computer that couldnt boot from usb in 10 years. You have to change some settings in your BIOS for example your boot priority is probally something like Hard Drive, CD-Rom, Removable. You want to change it so its booting from the usb cdrom first. Also enable the option allow boot from other devices.
Just tinker around in your bios changing boot settings, if you screw anything up then just default everything. Ubuntu isnt a very good operating system by the way, well I personally disliked it.

Installing Ubuntu from an External CD drive
I have in the past week been trying to install Ubuntu on my Gateway E-1400 PC with my external USB/Firewire CD/DVD drive. I have come up with a problem. My BIOS does not support starting from USB. My internal CD drive broke about a year ago, so I can not boot directly from the CD drive. I still do have a floppy drive, though. Is there anyway to install Ubuntu with my hardware?
