we know from the hackers who are working on this that the middle pin contains extra circuitry and programming on the special battery. this cannot be reproduced in the psp software, and it certainly cant be added to a normal battery either.

what motherboard was that guys psp? oh and my friends dad has the knowhow if it is voltage and all the things on it that he might be able to make one, but if the batteries chip is programmed to jump start it then he's lost.

then im afraid hes quite lost - it does. what does the motherboard revision have to do with this anyway?
@psp411: dont waste your time - it is a special battery - in fact it may not even BE a battery.
@taco111: good find. this may be a part of the process but it really isnt worth guessing about unless you have plenty of spare psp's about. i think we should be leaving this to the experts.

Hello everyone - sorry for such a late post about this subject but - i am a Camcorder technician and have worked on Sony camcorders for over 10 year - There IS either a chip or a frequency / sync pulse generator in their Info Lithium batteries that tells the camcorder how much juice it has and/or that it is in fact a sony battery or equivalant (Info Lithium batteries have this technology) I am 95% SURE that psp batteries have the same basic properties because of what everyone has described. I am a hardware tech not a coder so I know the actual hardware not the programming. There may be a way to prove this - if you had an oscilliscope you could see the data pulses being sent to the psp from the battery on that third pin - not that it would help you in any way without the combination of other software and hardware interfaces - I hope this sheds some insight into this. Oh and I am a SONY factory trained and certified technician. I will look into this a bit more and get back to you all as I have semi-bricked my psp and 70 buck for mod chip is a bit steep but may still be worth it (beats 169 buck for new psp) - I haven't decided yet i may just get the mod chip anyway - LOL

Having this kind of tools in psp owners is very useful now the only thing that missing is the price coz if its the same cost as undiluted chip its much better...you can easily unbrick any psp just putting the battery.

It would've been useful if we had that battery. And I highly doubt that battery has anything to do with it, since it's just power supply.

The middle pin is an extra serial port.
We've known that since day dot.
The ordinary PSP batteries use it to pass data re
temperature, time for charge cycle, etc.

The special battery obviously uses it for something else.

I learned that more than a year back with all the useless modding I do

Well, Im not sure if this is connected but I might as well share the food for thought. lol. So, Anyway, every 3 - 6 months, I go into my flash0 and remove particular files so that I bricked my PSP. I do this because I like to use my warranty to get a new one. The last one I got was 2 months ago, and it was a different experience for me. usually its the "Ok its not loading, here a new one"(I go to Best Buy) , but this time, Geek Squad checked it out. Best buy apparantly has their own Geek Squad department this year. Anyway, they said "Give us a few hours to see if we can fix it", and I agreed, knowing that they wouldnt be able to. And they didn't, However, They told me that they were able to boot it up and use something that said its firmware was unknown, I was using 3.40 OE-A, or 3.30 OE-A, I dont remember. But it did shock me that they could use something to boot it up and get it partially running...I mean, I did a good job of "bricking" it, so I dont know how they could have loaded it up. Anyway, just to let you know that it is possible for "unbrickers" to exist, whether they do or not, idk. I just know that somehow, the little pesky Geek Squad group (Who dont know anything, seriously) were able to look into my firmware, and boot up a black screen.

...oh and if your feeling like posting just to say "liar", save it. Go fake brick your own and send it to Geek Squad, I bet they will do the same thing and you'll get the same type of response.
