There's a newer MAME build available for the PSP? If so, I will happily work on another full report! (Please post a link - this is the only version of MAME I was able to find for the PSP.)

I just ordered the 37 DVD ultimate arcade/console ROMs collection from Tiptonware on Friday, so I'll be 100% up-to-date with the full .097 MAME ROM set by the end of the week.

    Holy crap! Now THAT'S dedication!

Thanks, Nekura. We appreciate all the hard work!

Now I just have to find some way to get these games to WORK. I've got the ROMs, but unless there's been a major update to the PSP version of MAME, I've had no success getting them to start. I've put like, seven different versions of the DK ROM on my PSP, and it tells me the same thing every time, "ROMs missing." It's like the game won't start until I insert a DNA sample from Donkey Kong himself.

Holy crap! Looks like I've got some playing to do this weekend! I'll post the results as soon as I finish. I still haven't received my DVD set, so I can't start until they arrive.

And, yeah - Tiptonware is the best outfit in the ROM burning scene. I know people have strong feelings on both sides of the "abandonware" issue, but to me this is a way to preserve classics that were such a part of my childhood. FWIW, I don't have a single bootleg PSone/PS2 game and the few arcades that are left in Chicago still get plenty of my lunch money despite my new obsession with pocket-sized MAME.

YES Zeno!!! I am running MAME on my 1.5 PSP using "mame071t"
There is quite an extensive list considering this is only the 2nd version of MAME for PSP (I think). I remember when it first got running for Dreamcast only like 5 games worked

Here's what you need to do:
    1) Get the latest version of PBP Unpacker@ www.pdc.me.uk/pbp ...0.94?
    2) look at the tutorial for MSwap (B method) it will walk you through step by step to create your own eboot.pbp (Thanks shizzle and Chrone!!!!)
Oh... and when you make the "Title" it doesn't have to be "PSP-DEV SWAPLOIT" you can just call it MAME. And you will also see that you can use your own little PNG files in there as well.
PSP\GAME\MAME is where the pbp will go
PSP\GAME\MAME\ROMS is where your roms go

Using MSwap didn't help me much but the tutorial sure did.....?

OK, im WAAAAAAAAAAAY confused!!! what is this program for? its seeming like it is used to convert a game or file so it can work on a different PSP version that its not meant to right??? it seems like MAME is only working on 1.5 and have 1.51 (trying to upgrade to 1.52) and it wont run. is this program suppose to make MAME run on the newer versions? if so, where are these tutorials for doing this? The help file seems to be made for computer science and nuclear engineers to understand. Can we get a lamens version on how to get this working posted?

MAME (and all emulators, as far as I know) requires either 1.0 or 1.5 firmware.

Nothing (emulators or homebrew) runs on 1.51 or 1.52 (at least not yet). Generally speaking, the older your firmware the better. I will NOT upgrade my firmware, even if it means I can't buy and play Grand Theft Auto or Gran Turismo, or even Madden footballl......

I might upgrade for GTA, but it will be a really, really tough call. (I've been waiting for Death Jr. and GTA since launch, but I've been having too much fun with MAME and the other console emus....)

BTW - my MAME DVDs arrived yesterday, so I'm going to start testing the latest MAME build(s) tonight.

Cool. Good luck with the project. Looking forward to your working/not working romlists for Mame PSP .96 variants (Namco, Sega, Tecmo, etc). The list you did with the .71 release was great!
