I've noticed odd behaviour with a low battery like you describe but I've never seen the GPS unit fail to activate when only running on battery power. have you noticed any difference when using a fully charged battery?
Hello @ all,
some days ago i wondered, why my GPS State is off.
First off all I must say that I use MapThis 0.499 on 3.03OE-C with a TA-079 PSP.
I tried to downgrade to 1.5 and then reupdate to 3.03 OE-C. It doesn't work.
I've checked the idstorage - everything perfect.
Then I tried something really strange.
But it work's.
I removed the PSP's Battery over night and my GPS State was on.
But second time I load up MapThis it was off again.
So I removed the Battery for a few Minutes.
GPS State was on ......
....
....
Why is my PSP or my PSP-290 doing this?
Or better - how can I fix this?
Because it's not really nice to remove the Battery every time before using MapThis.
When GPS State is on everything is working very fine.

No difference if I'm using a fully charged Battery.
Even not when I use the AC Adapter.
I have to remove the battery for a few minutes :-(
Maybe your battery isn't genuine?
Battery is ok
tested in my brothers PSP with my PSP-290
