Ok here we go today i was bored and took apart a little $30 dollar dvd player, to see if my dc would fit in it, then i was looking at the front tray loader thing and started to think "maybe i could get my dc to front load?"Well im in the process of doing this right now. As of now i got the Dc laser eye in the tray loader but i need to figure out how to mount it with the remaining bottom peice of the dreamcast gd-rom drive. Ill have some pics up tommarow.

i wanna see those pics!
Cool idea!
Yeah i started this project a while ago, i made a front loading DC, but couldnt be bothered to properly finish.
I'd advise just extending the ribbon and wires joining the laser to the GD-rom assembly as having the full assembly move down to let the tray move takes up mountains of room.
Are you gonna have a control circuit for the tray mechanism? i couldnt figure out how to make one but i don't have much knowledge in electronics.
Ok here are the pics:
This one is of the whole setup:
And this is of the loader with the Dreamcast Laser Eye in.
And yes i plan on having a controle circut for the tray but i too am not that good with electronics so ill need some help on that one.
Ok now it wont power but ill fix that, my question is, is what the hell is this little wire thing? Its not connected to anything their is just 2 white wires connected to it.
Ptr lynch can you post some pics on which wires connect to which motors on the drive bc i did it both ways and it still wont spin the spindle or anthing when i hit the open/close button on the gd-rom board.
lol. That's a switch, it tells the DC when the laser has reached the end of the track, bascially if that switch isnt pressed down when the DC turns on the DC moves the laser in until it does. You should be able to tell what a switch iswhat the hell is this little wire thing?
You don't need pics, just look in your spare DC, all GD-rom assemblies have the same colour coded wires/pinouts.
It looks great Just out of curiosity what revision DC is it? it looks like a Rev2 (no CD-Rs)
It looks awesome good job!, I hope you show us the final work to see how it looks (would be cool if you could get the thing to work with DVD Remote)
