BlackBerry claims five million users have already downloaded its BBM app since its launched earlier today.
BBM was one of the first messaging services on smartphones, with the app coming preloaded onto BlackBerry devices. Now iOS and Android users will be able to share photos and voice notes and engage in BBM Group chats through the BBM app.
They will also be able to add contacts through PIN, email, SMS or QR code scans.
While the app is free, there’s a queue. The firm said recently that six million people had signed up to get updates about the new app ahead of its launch.
In a tweet today from the official BBM Twitter account, the firm encouraged the ‘next 5 million in line’ to start using the app.
