Fear not, in-screen phone use is soon to be a thing of the past. Sort of.
American cinema chain AMC, who has more than 400 Stateside venues and one in Manchester, UK, has plans to introduce a texting aisle to theatres in the US, according toThe Independent.
The idea is to cut down on the number of rogues who use their mobiles and disturb the cinematic experience, adding soundproofing and barriers to the rear row to prevent disturbance. Regal and IMAX are also said to be considering similar initiatives.
Presumably it means couples looking for a popcorn and petting session will now need to do so at the front of the screens, with sexting replacing back row fondling.
Meanwhile, Shazam is currently condoning in-cinema device use, encouraging cinema goers to tag adverts in exchange for freebies and competitions.
