Here in Norway, you have to be 18 to buy either. :O
I neither smoke nor buy fireworks anyway, so I don't care at all. People who smoke are just really egoistic. They harm both the environment and the people around them. Let's hope snus will get popular in the rest of the world (I don't really hope it, but I wish smokers would stop harming their surroundings).
I smoke around 5 cigarettes a day, still after they started prohibition in Norway. It is a nice way of taking a break when writing music or cutting film, sure I could eat a candybar instead but I don't.
I like boxing, skating and smoking in my breaks. I also smoke in on stage because I think it looks cool. I thought smoking was so friggin cool after seeing Clint Eastwood movies as a kid. I actually quit working as DJ when prohibition struck because smoking is a part of how I look.
I wish I could smoke more, but I am satisfied 4-5 a day. Besides, skateboarding and boxing conflicts with excessive smoking.
I don't see anything wrong with either alcohol, cigs, cannabis, etc. But as other things in life they must be balanced.
I don't see that the fat-ass lady sitting in the same room right now being any less hazardous/irritating to the environment, or herself for that matter. She should definitely balance herself.
Anyway, It's important to care for others no matter what you do. Don't breathe smoke on non-smokers, don't serve steaks to vegetarians, don't overeat just for fun because someone in world find it insulting and not very nice.
Poem by Tiebreak:
A sig is dig
when you've eaten like a pig
Smoking is cool
I smoke with the cutest girls in school
It keeps the stress away
You gotta smoke at least ten times a day
Smoke, to be truly free
Smoke, just like me
Cool eh?
By the way, did anyone see the kidney of persons eating fast food regulary?
In modern society people very seldom die from "natural causes". Also non-smokers most often become sick and suffer alot before they die. It did not used to be like this. Why? Because most industries want to produce cheap stuff, putting all kinds of chemicals in the for example food, so it can last longer, look tastier, etc.
Alot of those chemicals have been proven to increase chances for cancer, alot them we know little about and can't tell yet. We use them anyway.
I don't encourage smoking (that poem was a joke), but I am really disgusted by moralists pointing their fingers without taking their own lifestyle in consideration. I respect people that are different from myself, therefore I keep my sigs away from non-smokers, but don't tell me who is the more selfish one, especially if you live in a western society buying mass-produced food, wasting energy with your gadgets and toys, or disturb others while you are drunk. At least I eat mostly organic food, I turn off the lights before I leave the house, I even pick up trash from the street and put in in trashcans.
I see it has become socially accepted to disrespect smokers, especially AFTER the propaganda wave against smoking. I am lucky to be an artist and in a scene where most people still smoke (maybe because they watch less TV?), so I am not too affected by this. This thread has actually been one of the first arenas I have met such aggressivity.
Disrespecting others is a great way of feeling better about yourself (I've been there too!) and making your failure as a good human look less nasty, not that everyone here is doing that but it is a great tendency in general (look it up in psycology books).
Peace and respect!
Hai.
Bonus: I know three people that suffered from cancer, non of them were smoking. Again it is not an argument pro-smoking, it just to enlighten more aspects of about morality, health and western society.
