From what I read over at gbadev, because DSO uses a GPL license all this company has to do is to release the modifications they've made to the sourcecode.

But yes it does stink that they didn't ask permission first.

if they want to use this code, since it is being sold as the core operating system, DragonMinded should either be given a percentage of accrued profit or given a the proper monentary amount. This product looks neat, but i sure as hell will not touch it unless something happens to settle this problem.

if anything, we can steal one and then rip it's OS to post on the net for download. ;D

I hate to say it, but the very hardware we're using for our beloved homebrew, or other techniques (WMB included) are in violation of US law. Assuming Nintendo cares.

I think it's fairly terrible that they've just gone and lifted this stuff without so much as a thank-you, but at the same time, we're kinda doing the same thing to Nintendo just by doing all this.

I kinda hope they make amends and we can forget about the whole ordeal. From what I've seen the thing is a pointless waste of money by comparison with just about any other product anyway. Nobody who knows what DSOrganize is would buy it.

PS. DSOrganize is the proverbial excrement. Much thanks to DM for this one. It's _essential_.

Subject: Internal Source code used in MediaCart

    To the director/project manager/head honcho(s) at MediaCart:

Good evening. My name is Jake Turner, known as Mr. Biggs on the Dcemu forums (http://dcemu.co.uk)

It has been brought to my attention that your product, the Mediacart, uses source code implemented in the popular Nintendo DS homebrew program, DSOrganize. This program was created by Shaun Taylor, A.K.A DragonMinded (http://www.dragonminded.com) . He has put many hours of time into this developig this application, and has put up with a lot of the hassles that homebrew development brings, such as buggy Software Development Kits (SDKs), the lack of drivers for the individual Flashcarts(solved by the DILI patching system), and general complaints from people who had problems. This man has done the DS Homebrew scene an amazing service, and to know his work is being copied and sold in your product without any form of monentary reimbursement- pisses me and many others off, for lack of a stronger word.

Currently, a boycott is in the works, spreading throught the DCEmu community, and possibly being enacted by the administrators, thanks to this little detail. Any company would know that a mass boycott is not good for buisness, especially from a reputable news site like DCEmu. If the administrators decide to boycott the Mediacart, then you won't be seeing any reviews or advertisements on the DS branch of the website. While I am currently impressed with the device, I am disgusted to know it operates on one man's unemployed toil.

If you wish to effectively sell this product, I would suggest contacting DragonMinded through [email protected] and discuss things over with him. The source code is his intellectual property, and if you refuse to respect that and reflect it in some way, he is wholly justified to take your company to court. But if you can't take the time to work things out and pay this man for his work, then keep things simple, and delete all work you have done on this project. You CANNOT take this product to market when it's heart was sculpted by one man, who isn't in your employ.

Please take the time to ponder what has been brought to light here, and make sure proper action is taken. This doesn't have to get ugly, or need to end at all. All that is necessary is a change in course. I leave it to you to make the decision. Thank you for your time.

Just to let everyone know. This is on Digg. If you do a search for DSOrganize it should show up. So lets try and Digg this to the front page and get the word out.

Yeah guys, you gotta realise this.

However i believe they are required to release the source code and credit the original author.

You guys do realize that the bigger deal you make of this, the more people will hear about the cart in the first place. And publicity is publicity after all.

I would never have heard about this cart if it wasn't for the "media cart steals from dsorganize" threads popping up all over the place. Although I agree that using DM's code without permission or acknowledgment is not cool, you are probably doing the company more good that harm.
