General games Brown will study new rules on violent videogames

    via Games Industry

On the heels of a recently announced Conservative Party mini-manifesto on violent videogames, UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has outlined plans for a public review of violent and sexual imagery in games.

According to the Daily Mirror, Brown promised to look again at banning violent videogames.

"I know... that parents are concerned about whether children are too exposed to harmful violence and sexual imagery in video computer games and on the internet," said Brown, "so as we launch the court consultation on our children's plan we will be looking at all the evidence on the effects of this material, whether we need new rules for the advertising and sale of these products to children and young people."

Mr. Brown intends to put the plans to a "Citizens' Jury" this week, in which members of the public will have a direct influence on policymaking, airing their views and offering suggestions.

Another "Citizens' Jury" on crime and gang warfare will follow next week.

Mr. Brown said that "It will look at how we can empower people to work with police to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour."

Sexual imagery from games? Please. How about we murder all the super models and prevent their pictures from being plastered all over society. Since children, especially girls, will grow up with a sense of decency, rather than they 12 year old wanna be pornstars you see walking down the streets now.

Secondly, it will improve a girl's self image, since, they won't be nagged all day by images of beautiful women and then have to look in the mirror and deal with how they don't live up to that.

Thirdly, how about we get rid of sitcoms and disney movies. Sitcoms are rarely ever lacking in the lude jokes and sexual references. And Disney because they think its fun to use sexual innuendo to make their movies appealing and funny to adults, when they are in fact geared towards children...

Violence, well, thats part of human nature, first off. And secondly, PARENTING and WAY OF LIFE is to blame for 99.99999% of all criminals. I have yet to read a single biography on a serial killer who not sexually molested by a family member, beaten, abused, etc.

So rather than blame gaming, which has undoubtedly saved many kids from going to school and killing a classmate (since they could VENT their anger on virtual characters), let us blame parents and society in general.

We have made these problems for ourselves. And no amount of scapegoats will fix them.

    "Citizens' Jury"
Oh cmon, I think all people in this Jury are influenced by $#@! which was shown in TV-Reportages or Newspapers. ƒuck it. Thats so stupid, that's not really an independent jury.
And most people which are "Pro" Gaming are to lazy to stand up and say what they think.
