Default The "Im a total noob" thread

ive noticed alot of, "total noob here, pls help" threads in the psp help forums. and ive been able to help quite a number of them. i think i have enough psp knowledge in me to help anyone who asks.

so, anyone who needs help with anything, from a bricked psp to a broken umd drive to a stripped screw, go right ahead and ask me.

Mabe it might be best If you had a few of us answering questions as well because just one person won't feed all the n00bs out there.

Uh, I want to know how to install M33's custom firmware 3.71 (2). I am about to get a new psp (tonight actually) and I want to jump right into the scene. I've been keeping up with psp homebrew news for a few weeks now, but I still don't really know how to install M33's updated 3.71 firmware.
Any helps? I need all the steps.

edit: Forgot to mention this, but I'm getting the star wars PSP slim.

With a slim psp you would need to make a Pandora battery and a memorystick with the correct files, so I would assume you need a homebrew compatible psp to first make both of those in order to install 3.71m33-2 on your slim psp.

Yes, I definitely need PSP help before I tear all my hair out, pretty please.

    See: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=76640

    Also.....

    1) Is the seperate 1.50 kernel for 3.71-M33 meant to provide compatibility with all homebrew?
    2) Are any features of the PSP lost in upgrading to certain custom firmwares or using certain kernels?
    3) Do homebrew apps and emulators have to be patched manually at all?
    4) Will I need to upgrade to 3.52 first? I can't seem to find anything on a direct 1.50-to-3.71-M33 upgrade.
    5) Is there a decrease in performance when running compressed ISOs compared to non-compressed?

(Oh yeah, and my silver PSP with 1.50 firmware came from Superufo - something I found out thanks to this very site. )

Please answer in a clear and concise manner if you can, I'm just so out of my league in this scene compared to the DS, haha.

    1. Well, you CAN play homebrew with 3.71M33, but your slection of apps is very limited

    2. no, in fact, you get all the benefits of a hacked psp + the features of official sony firmware

    3. yes. for example, if you have DaedalusR10(n64 emulator) and you want the newer version, Daedalus R11, then you will need to manually download the emulator.

    4. yup, follow this guide(ill provide the files at the bottom of this thread. but, you will have to get the EBOOTS yourself.. you can get the EBOOTS here. 1.50EBOOT; http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/43
    3.52 EBOOT; http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/60)

1 - If you are under official 1.50 PSP firmware, copy kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folders from "1.50only/" of this download to your "ms0:/PSP/GAME/" and use it.

    2 - Once done , or if you are under any Special/Open Edition/M33, copy M33CREATOR folder to your "ms0:/PSP/GAME" (1.50fw) or "ms0:/PSP/GAME150" (SE/OE)

3 - Download official 3.52 eboot, rename it to 352.PBP and place it on "ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/" or "ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33CREATOR/"

4 - Download official 1.50 eboot, rename it to 150.PBP and place it on "ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/" or "ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33CREATOR/"

5 - Go to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute "3.52 M33 CREATOR". Once finished, it will go back to the XMB.

6 - Go again to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute "3.52 M33UPDATE". You'll have to press X to agree to the installation.

7 - When finished, press X to shut down and reboot manually.

now, to upgrade to 3.52M33-4, its actually very simple. once you've already updated to 3.52M33, download the 3.52M33-4 update ill provide and put the 'M33Update4' folder in your 'Game150' folder found on the psp. the go to the xmb then go to games and execute the app. and all you need to do
    is follow the onscreen instructions.

once everything is done, i suggest you format your memstick.

EDIT: i suggest you stick with 3.52M33-4 first, 3.71M33 isnt that stable yet and has a few glitches.
