Question I need help getting the geodata to work

    Hello,

I have been visiting this forum about 3 weeks every day and I have read most of the posts here. I ordered the PSP-290 from YesAsia (thanks for the hint) and it should arrive anyday. I have gotten everything to work (Map This, maps), but the only problem is with geodata.

I live in Estonia, but I am going on a vacation on Tenerife so I take Tenerife as an example.

Got some coordinates from internet and I have tried many formats like:
    1. 28,1286;16,4073;Teide_main_isection;city
    2. 28.128.60,16.407.30, Teide main isection
    3. 28.128.60, 16.407.30, Teide_main_isection, city
and save them in CSV format

I open the GMDL, and convert it using Custom (CSV)
in the begiining there were string errors, but managed to fix them
Then the program gives me 3 folders
I take only the geodata.dat file and put it in the map (_Tenerife) folder.
When I take POI Look Up then theres "None"

I have tried everything renamed geodata.dat to _geodata.dat, then Map This found it, but it didn't give me any points. I added !IMAGE:attraction.png, too, to the beginning of the geodata.dat file.

Using 3.52-4M33 and Map This 5.01

Please help, it has gotten too frustrating

I created a POI in Map This itself and it created a file _MY_POIS and it showed the created POI (copy pasted all my data into it, but nothing)

I actually never tried cvs->geodata import..so my advice is to add you question to gmdl thread in hopes that in7ane would answer it...
Before you do it here is some pointers:
    - make sure your coordinates are correct (check format, make sure there are no commas instead of decimal point, as you typed in above, etc..)
-you custmom data must be grouped pretty tight:
if mapThis does not find a point within ~150m - it reports no data available
-Unlike POIs, geodata.dat should be in binary format. So adding stuff to it without a proper editor will screw things up badly.
-geolookup and reverse lookup could be losely implemented via large POI files.. check what coach777 did with Moscow map and subway stations at prozzac.ru forums (you can do simple lookup via POI search; also you can use large transparent icons for your geo marks for reverse lookup )

I don't want that other posts get very bulky so I post here(and people with same problem can find the answer quicker)

So here is my CSV file

    28.1286,16.4073,Teide_main_isection,attr
    28.16142,16.44918,Chio_Zona_Recreativa_isection,at tr
    28.16072,16.44865,Chio_Zona_recreativa_parking,cit y
    28.1149,16.39925,Zona_recreativa_Las_Lajas_isectio n,city
    28.11331,16.39415,_Las_Lajas_leaking_watertap P,city
    28.11312,16.39439,Las_lajas_leaking_watertap,city
    28.09907,16.38195,Big_pines_north_of_Vilaflor,city
    28.07634,16.39409,Corn_bunting_fields,city
    28.04184,16.40035,Reservoir_de_Cabo_Blanco,city
    28.02259,16.3289,Montana_del_Roja_P,city
    28.2929,16.2083,Los Rodeos_Airport_departure,city
    28.2933,16.2126,Los_Rodeos_Airport_arrivals,city
    28.16856,16.48754,24h_Texaco,city
    28.24487,16.33975,Loro_Park,city
    28.13431,16.37664,Teide_visitors_center,city

Added "_" in the names in case Map This doesn't like space (tried with space too)

The created a geodata.dat file which I copied into my map folder. (where are the GPSFS files)

"if mapThis does not find a point within ~150m - it reports no data available"

As I am not using GPS-290 ( it is the 9th day since shipping ) . I used the analog and put the blue cross on place where a POI should be (watched the coordinates) and nothing, it still said that "Warning! No attraction type selected"

If anybody wants some information just ask, I don't know what more could I write.

The data seems ok (spaces are fine and you don't need the ,city part unless you specify a city name). I think you are trying to pull up the geodata as if it were POIs - use Address lookup rather than POI lookup for geodata.

Hope this helps, alternatively you can just use the CSV as a POI file (copy the format from an existing one).

I have been watching this thread with some interest! How have you got on so far PureEstonian?

I live in NZ and can setup a geodata with basic LAT, LONG, NAME data but have had no luck finding a search at all.
I can take the same CSV data and make a POI, search for a name and it works great!
Really would just like to see the geodata function in action with Mapthis!

    Hello again,

    Thank you in7ane for replying,
Yes I'm little guilty, messed the geodata and POIs up.
Created a CSV file where I put some of my Estonia coordinates and it worked. Took show POI and there they were, were they should be.
But there are many mysterious things.

    1) Used the same format for my Tenerife POIs and nothing, they just don't show up. Everything is same as in the Estonia POI file.

2)The _Estonia.csv file I use for POIs can't be converted to Geodata because of incorrect input string error, but I think it's not a big problem, have to look more into it.

Here is the csv file I got to work
    Code:
    57.712391,27.055213,Suur munamägi
    58.371955,26.719949,Era Villa
    59.04088,24.50899,Linnutorn
and here is the one that doesn't work, but the format is the same. Maybe somebody finds the problem.

    Code:
    28.16142,16.44918,Chio Zona Recreativa isection
    28.16072,16.44865,Chio Zona recreativa parking
    28.11331,16.39415,Las Lajas leaking watertap P
    28.11312,16.39439,Las lajas leaking watertap
    28.09907,16.38195,Big pines north of Vilaflor
    28.07634,16.39409,Corn bunting fields
    28.04184,16.40035,Reservoir de Cabo Blanco
    28.16856,16.48754,24h Texaco
    28.24487,16.33975,Loro Park
    28.13431,16.37664,Teide visitors center
Thanks for the help, I got my self-confidence back

So just to clarify, you have or have not managed to get the geodata and POI to work, or just POI?

    Cheers,
    AJ.

I got the POI to work. When I come back from vacation, I'll check the geodata and see if it works (I'm afraid it doesn't )
