40GB PS3 Ships With Improved DVD Playback

Spanish gaming site MeriStation have published an interview with James Armstrong, who's CEO of Sony Spain. While chatting, Armstrong revealed that the new 40GB PS3 will ship with updated firmware which will improve the PS3's DVD playback quality.

Too bad they also remove PS2 backwards compatability (or at the very least cripple it).

Sony revised their User Agreement which is effective October 30th.

I'd rather have PS2 backwards compat rather than better playback.

True,PS2 compatiblity is poor but the thing is sony removed the ps2 hardware(whats left of it)from new ps3's so more people would benefit from this update than ps2 BC.

I hardly watch DVD films so I would go for having PS2 backward compatibility.

PS2 backwards compatibility is a must. I don't see why Sony cut it from the 40gb units. Its the real killer reason why people would upgrade to a PS3.

Even if they don't play PS2 games as much anymore, its still nice to have.
