Ubisoft's free-to-play third-person shooter Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online will be given a Steam launch worldwide in spring.
While holding off committing to a specific launch date, the publisher did confirm that the game has been released via Steam Early Access in Canada only today, January 14, where it will be 'fine tuned' ahead of its global Steam launch.
The free-to-play multiplayer game was released in beta form for PC in August 2012, and has reached an audience of around four million registered users, according to Ubisoft.
"Bringing Ghost Recon Online to Steam has been our goal since the game's inception," said producer Corey Facteau in today's announcement.
"We took the time necessary to reach a quality level that can go head to head with the best online games available today before releasing on Steam," he said.
"To ensure a seamless transition to the new platform, we will use Early Access to fine tune the Ghost Recon Online experience before releasing it to the rest of the world."
A previously in-development Wii U version of the game was put "on hold" indefinitely as the Singapore studio said it wanted to "focus on the PC version".
