The difference between Final Fantasy and Mario is that Mario is the same character/story whereas Final Fantasy has completely different characters and stories. Although Final Fantasy can use the same theme (something bad happens, must save world) they always have fresh ideas to make the game good.

@JKKDARK: Sales of a console are irrelevant if the system has something to offer to people. If the PSP were so bad, it would have gone the way of the Game Gear, yet its the most successful portable system to compete with Nintendo. Calling the PS3 sales miserable is just blind fanboy hatred, as the PS3 is on par with the 360 and has sold more 1 million more consoles than the 'failed GC' at the same point in its lifetime.
