Default Keeping your PS3 cool / saving money during F@H

Update 6/23 -- fixed a couple misused terms

as we all may or may not know, the ps3 takes a generous amount of power to run, though a bit of the power used is not needed for the features being used.

here are some ways to cut back excess power and/or perhaps gain a 0.001th or two of a frame per second of the work unit simulation process.

    1. eject the disc in the system if present.

    2. locate the ps3 where there are no objects immediately infront of or behind the console, so that the much needed fan can function properly.

3.remove the AV / HDMI / component video out cable if it sags infront of the fan's vent

    4. if you know the ps3 wont have enough time to finish the work unit before you get back, remove the broadband cable -- then plug it back it when you get back. this idles or turns off the network card. if you use a wireless router to connect, Disable Internet Connection in Network Settings in the XMB.

    5. if you are more worried about protecting your ps3 from heat damage (very unlikely, but does happen), versus cutting back on it's power consumption in terms of $£/kWh (money per kilowatt hour):

aim a small fan at the front air intake vents next to the usb ports. make sure that the fan is horizontal with or below and aiming up at the vents.

if the fan is above and aiming down at the ps3, the shape of the console blocks the breeze of fresh air.
