psp not playing new games??

hi i bought a psp of ebay 11 mnths ago i was able to play games original and downloaded, but know i can only play older games.

the software is 3.03 oe-c not sure what this means, also when i try to go in to the recovery menu i can't, psp off then hold R & turn on?

the psp seems a little odd as the confirmation button is O rather than X, and it goes to japenese portable tv channels,

i am new to this so prehaps i'm being an idiot?

The reason your buttons are reversed is cos it will be a jap model and playing newer games you will need to upgrade to a higher custom firmware make sure its a USA or Europe firmware which is used to make the custom and it will correct the button problem. And if i remember right 3.03oe didnt have a recovery menu?

sounds silly but what should i upgrade to? and how?

Ya know what? I got halfway through typing up the tutorial before I realized I could just link an already-made tutorial! =)
Follow the instructions there to install 3.71 M33.

After that install the updates (M33-2, M33-3, and M33-4.)

If you have a PSP fat, you can also install the 1.50 kernel add-on.

just one more thingy, to avoid the jap tv tunner and the default confirmation button set as O, use the option on recovery mode that says format flash1, as yours should be corrupted because it shows the jap stuff
