Newbie battery problem

My son played the DS until the battery ran out and now when I plug the charger in the yellow light goes out after about 2 minutes.I borrowed a second charger and the problem still continues.
Do I need to buy a new battery or is it a deeper problem?

If Li-ion batteries are ran out (and I think it shouldn't have been used for a while generally after that) they can get too uncharged that they fail. However when it happened to a friend of mine he was recommended to try to charge it anyway, and after a day or two it finally started charging and working normal again. I guess you try charging it for a few days to see if it starts(not taking it out in this time). I'd advice you to call some support otherwise. Good luck.
