Default Wireless internet connection using a 20GB PS3?

I really want to connect my PS3 to my network, but in the past I had real problems attempting to connect a router (I live in halls and have ridiculous restrictions on internet use), but I was unlocking an iPhone today using the Airport card in my Macbook as a router and wondered if I could do the same with my PS3? Problem now being that I have an imported Japanese 20GB PS3 with no built-in Wi-fi support.

The only thing I have at home at the moment which I could try with was a USB wireless network adapter - this one, in fact - but it couldn't (or refused) to detect it, as in kept asking for an ethernet cable to be inserted (I couldn't find anything in the settings that would change it from anything but "Wired Connection"). Is there any documented use of USB adapters? Or would I need to buy an access point (which I can get real cheap at work tomorrow) in order to satiate my PS3 need for an ethernet cable?

Thanks in advance for any answers

    Default

Using a USB wireless network adapter won't work with the PS3 at least for now, but i don't see Sony creating support for it either since all the current models have built-in wireless.

Try using a WiFi "bridge". This would plug into the PS3's wired connection and "bridge" it to a wireless network.

Examples of WiFi "bridges" made specifically for consoles a.k.a. "Wireless Game Adapters":

    Netgear
    Linksys
    D-Link
    Belkin

    I hope this helps.
