Its all marketing, you cant have certain video in some place for some reason, and its always been that way, DVD's have region coding, PS2,xbox have region codes It's all about the different Regions and different companies of the region making money.

Its the same reason as in Direct TV or dish or any other cable provider, the channels like for me I live in the East of the US, I cant watch West channel versions of ABC, CBS, FOX, etc. For market purposes... they have made laws, so this might be the same with the UMDs, DVDs, and all region protected softwares.
Actually, DirecTV gives me Fox East/West ABC East/West and CBS East/West they won't give me any NBC stations however because I can pick those up with an antenna supposedly.

As for regioning, I agree with with your assessment. Just about everything companies do is put into place to ensure they make money.

    Thumbs down I think

They just want to make money off the places that get charged more for them. Where I live, it is going to cost $430 NZD (340 - 350USD). This is not fair!! If I wanted to get the right price, and before the SEPTEMBER release I could go and buy it off lik-sang or some other good import company. But, the money goes back to them either way, so why the hell do they care? (Possibly try and make up by charging customers outside the states more )

When I ask you, has Sony done anything with remote intelligence or thought?
