UPDATE: The physical version of Dark Souls II on PC has been delayed by one week in the UK, MCV can confirm.
"This is only affecting the UK on the boxed release of the game," a Bandai Namco rep said. "It will be delayed unfortunately and we apologise to UK customers. This is due to a manufacturing issue with packaging. To confirm this will only affect the UK boxed launch."
This means the disc version will arrive in the UK on May 2nd. The UK digital release and both the digital and physical release in other territories will still arrive on April 25th as planned.
ORIGINAL STORY: PC owners may have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the PC version of Dark Souls II.
NeoGAF users are claiming that Amazon UK has been emailing out those who have pre-ordered the game saying that it will now arrive on May 2nd – that’s a week later than the original April 25threlease date.
Amazon currently doesn’t specify a release date for the game on its listing. ShopTo, however, is also now saying it will be released on May 2nd. Note that others such as GAME are still saying April 25th.
MCV has contacted Bandai Namco for clarification.
Forum users are getting excited about the possibility that the delay may be designed to give developer From Software the time to re-introduce some of the flashier graphical elements that the console release was criticised for omitting.
However, early previews of the PC version suggest that while the SKU will offer a host of visuals benefits over the console releases (such as increased resolution and FPS) it still lacks many of the flourishes seen in pre-release preview videos – none of which has stopped it being a smash hit with critics.
