We had this as an idea a while back but the problem is that Firefox is a memory guzzler and it would be hard for the PSP to run it at all.

Firefox is popular and should be on the PSP!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Shame Firefox hasn't tried to move into the Handheld market. PIE isn't really open-source, and if I recall correctly the alternative web browsers on the PocketPC has much to be desired.
Basic point being that if Firefox had been ported to a PocketPC platform, it'd be optimised for less memory and storage space, thus be easier to port to the PSP.
Opera reigns supreme on limited hardware like phones.
Closed source I know, but about as likely to be running well on the PSP any time soon.
Pages render faster and are re-formatted in a much more readable way under opera on my old n-gage (despite its god-awful screen) than the PSP browser. The fact there is any need for an alternative shows just how little effort sony put into the included one.
Actually, it's this NetFront company that made the crappy browser and SONY just made the mistake of contracting their product. From what I understand, they put this browser on 'net appliances' as just a basic 'look-at-webpages' thing rather than a full-featured 'browse-the-web' browser that should be easily handled by the PSP.
Hell, IE5 is better than this and was capable of running on slimmer hardware.
Further research can have NetFront blamed for the browsers on the Dreamcast, the PS3 and the nGage QD as well.
Microb runs nearly as well as desktop web browsers on the nokia internet tablets. If only it were open source..
There's a version of Mozilla for handhelds called minimo.

And also, a handheld version of Firefox (codename Fennec) is going to be released.

Opera mini runs on the PSP through the J2me emulator PSPKVM.
