The best way to put custom firmware on your psp is to use a "Pandoras Battery"

In order to make a "Pandoras Battery" you'd need a psp with custom firmware already on there. You couldnt make one any other way im afraid.

So find someone with a hacked psp and ask them if they would convert a bettery for you

EDIT: If your based in the UK, i could make one for you, all you'd need to do is send me a spare battery and a memory card, has to be bigger then 32mb

    PM me if your intrested

Actually, it is possible to make a pandora without a homebrew PSP, it's just more difficult.

    Read this tutorial:

you don't take apart the battery if you're on official firmware you need to downgrade to 1.50 and then update to custom firmware.look for tutorials on youtube on how to use it.

Since you're on 3.71, and there's no downgrader for that, to the best of my knowledge, you're stuck requiring a pandora's battery, and a magic memory stick.

To make a magic memory stick WITHOUT a hacked PSP, follow this tutorial (ignore the battery parts).

If you want to get a Pandora's battery without actually having to make one, buy it here.

This one is a TOOL battery, basically a pre-made pandora. Whne you figure in shipping, it costs just as much as a stock Sony battery, but you don't have to modify it.

And this here is a service tool. It lets you convert a battery back and forth between normal and service, in mere seconds.

thanks for that. and if i made a magic memory stick and bought a TOOL battery would i just have to put the normal psp battery back in and wipe all the files of the memory card to make the psp go back to normal? and once ive made my memory stick into a magic memory stick where do i put all the files i had on my psp before like saved games and stuff like that.

    thanks

I don't know about you, but I kept my battery and my magic memory stick. I charge $5 to "hack" a PSP, which pays for the cost of the battery over time. I had a spare memory stick though, so you could always just back up the files on your PSP.

Before your format the memory stick, simply copy EVERYTHING on it to a folder on your PC somewhere. Then, when you re-format it, copy everything back over as is.
