OK it needs to load from a second partition on the SD card with an 'ext3' file system (not fat16), which windows can't create, or read. i managed to create it by booting gparted http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php now i just need to get the files on there. that's enough for tonight though, i'm off to bed.

can anyone tell me if this is sdhc compatible? and can linux see the fat16 partition once its loaded?

it is with the newest compiled kernel ( or since kernel 2.6.27 )

grab the latest kernel image ( aka your boot.dol ) from the site :)

i believe muzer is going to make a more feature rich and easier setup of wii linux.... so itll be a interesting time in linux development on wii :)

Thanks for Everything,

I'm guessing Ubuntu may be a bit slow on the wii compared to some other Linux varieties. I'd look for something smaller and faster like Damn Small Linux or Puppy Linux

Is it possible to compile xbmc for this linux port on wii and run it at an ok speed or is it too heavy?

Ok, downloaded, managed to install it and boot it.
looks and works great, but i have one big issue. The screen resolution seems to be way off. When i open a window, the windows bar with the buttons is off the screen. When i minimize a window, it can not be reopened because dock area is not on the screen.
Can anyone tell me how, or if, i can adjust the screen size/resolution? Other then this problems, its great!:D

Those were my thoughts exactly. I'd kill for DSL on Wii, since it can run on a 486DX with 16MB of RAM...
NERDS, ASSEMBLE!

Also, people trying to get it to work: You need Linux on your computer. I'd reccomend DSL, since it can run inside Windows, or just run off the CD with no need to install.

Oh, and if someone could post an xorg.conf edited to work on an NTSC TV, that would be awesome. I don't know much about TV standards, other than NTSC is 640x480 and interlaced, and when I edit the file, X won't start. But I'll try to figure it out on my own, and if I get it working, I'll post. Someone posted a site...
Also, anyone know why xinit doesn't work right (Exit from X, then login, and xinit-you'll see what I mean, unless I'm just unlucky)
EDIT: Found the file for NTSC TV's! See attached, credit goes to MENTALDOMINANCE of TehSkeen. just copypasta/edit the bits that are changed in this-the file is /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Feel free to ask me for help, but if you can't figure out how to get that much to work, you're hopeless. Don't bother with Linux, you'll only break...something.
