I hope this release inspires people to remake some emulators from scratch for the PSP, eg: SNES. If this is an example of what can be achieved, we can have 100% speed for virtually every console!
I've tested Super Mario Advance, Wario Land 4, and Mario Kart and each one of them ran between 90-100% without a frameskip!! Wario Land crashed after I'd played through to the end of the 1st level of the green corridor, but it ran fine up til then. And if it really doesn't use the ME for sound emulation yet, we can expect a major increase in speed when he does code it.
Things I hope for for the next release:
ZIP support, ROM changer, Control rebinding.
Again, wonderful emulator, doubly so as it's still only a Beta! No, he says that ME won't give much of an increase at all for emulating sound. The GBA didn't have a separate processor for emulating sound, it just used its main CPU.

Well I can't wait till more releases of this emulator are made. Also things I would like to see in the future:
32 mega bite rom compatability
Nice GUI
More rom compatability
Crash Bug fixes
Zip rom support (not really big in my opinion though =P)
Ad hoc link cable emulation
And I had another thought if everything goes well we should be able to have connectivity between the PSP and the Nintendo WII (that is if Nintendo Wii shares compatability with the Game Boy Advanced XD. But I have high hopes for this emulator. Biggest things on my list:
Crash bug fixes
Link Cable emulation =]

here's a list of things you should do if you want to play this... i found this on another site and i followed this to make it work
1. Download "gpSP v0.5 Beta"
2. Create a folder and extract "gpSP" contents to it.
3. Download "SeiPSPtool05b." and extract.
4. Connect PSP to PC with USB.
5. Run "SetPSPtool.exe"
6. Enter "gpSP" in name field. (This is going to be the name of the folder)
7. Click "..." and choose "whole folder." Find and choose extracted "gpSP v0.5 Beta" folder.
8. Check "Hide Corrupted image from list" if you wish.
9. Click "Generate" and choose "Export to PSP 1.5"
10. Find yourself a GBA_BIOS.bin(google it... ez to find... aprox 16 kb)
11. Place the gba bin file into the gpSP and enjoy!
hope this helps.

1- Put them in the same folder as the eboot.
2- Yes, but to change games you have to restart the emulator.

It would be great if a nice GUI could be implemented into this emulator, maybe if it was as simple as the Rin game boy emulator. We just need to get back to the emulator menu after we switch roms perhaps =S

Yeah, I would like to see the back to emulator menu option + sound quality + savestates/loadstates. I don't see a need for anything else (atleast from what I can think of).

Would Zx-81 be playin around with the sourcecode or work together with exophase?
The two of them together would be good news pspvba could load most roms i have but with low speed but this emu loads well with some in full speed the only problems are some roms don't load but crashes

oh Mr Nick!! not you as well?? don't fall victim to the pointless one-line post like the others, you're better than that!
I tried out Klass of '99.... a PD game you can get from the Skool Web (http://retrospec.sgn.net/users/rjordan/klass/downl.htm) site - and is a remake / sequel to classic speccy games SkoolDaze / Bak 2 School.
it appears to be full speed with 0 frameskip, although the sound seemed to have imperfections. (a little bit "choppy" but not much) ... i would say add it to the list, but i dont really get why theres one on te start of here and a seperate one linked to. Guess everyone was / is just a little over-excited.
seems silly to me that everyone is more interested in compaibility lists than writing proper bug reports. (i.e. i broke the emulator, here is how to re-produce the bug) which is imho a real shame, because i'm sure that'd be more useful to the author.... it is only a beta afterall.

I have just started the program, select the bin file, the gameboy logo runs, and then i get a blue screen that says:
"i regret to inform you your psp has just crashed", right below that it gives some "exception details exception: bus error (instr)" with alot of numbers after it underneath it. Then, at very end, it says:
"the offending routine may be identified with: psp-addr2line -e target.elf -f -c 0x8a.....(more numbers and letters)......."
i am sure this is good program, which is why i am really eager to try it, but i can't do anything about it until my problem is solved. Can someone please help me? I've done everything right, I have a 1.5, got the bin file... just take my word for it... everything has been done right... i've been here since hello world on 1.5, yet i still can't figure this out. any help would be appreciated. in any case THANK YOU EXOPHASE!!

You don't need to load the BIOS, just use the file browser to load one of your roms. If you execute the BIOS manually it will crash.

It seems like I've been playing this practically non-stop since it's release. Does this mean a SEGA Saturn emu could be possible, if built from the ground up for the PSP? (as opposed to just ported) The PSP really is a little powerhouse, when in the right dev's hands.

...Ok. I have tried to figure out how to setup this emulator on my psp. I am running a 2.0 firmware. Anyways I setup homebrew for the 2.0 firmware, then I set up this emulator using SeiPSPTool. Yes I have a "gba_bios.bin" under the folder without the %. When I go to the homebrew eloader thing on my psp, it loads and shows the gpsp under the menu, when I select it the screen just goes black and is still on. On a different site they had two files to download, the gpsp.zip and the gpsp src file(which is in a BZ2 format). Where was I supposed to put the gpsp src file? The readme didnt metion anything about it. If someone could help me out on instructions to set it up, I will greatly appreciate it.

I mean, I am not the only one using the psp (younger brother and sister), they wont know how to use the devhook once its on there i don't think. I may have to downgrade, I just want to know if it possible to work with what I have.

I would say this is quite stable for a first release!
Star Wars Lego, Astro Boy (which is amazing), Mario Kart, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow, etc etc all run brilliantly with only minor sound glitches!
Dude done alot of beta testing in my time this release is very unstable u look at it cross eyed it crashes your psp needs alot of work simple as !! peace out .

I havent tried any of the other GBA emus yet, but from what I can tell this one kicks ass already (even as a beta) on speed etc compared to the others.
Like you said though it does need alot of work... but for a first release that came from no where, I'm v impressed! :)

Sure, this emu has a lot of work to be done. But it´s excellent for a beta release that came out of nowhere. I´m sure the coder is going to be working hard on getinng the bugs out. But this beta proves that you can have gba games running at full speed. Also, since the code was written from scratch I think it will be easier for him to make the optimizations. Great 1st release though. The incredibles runs just about perfect and sonic batlle is working good also.
can´t wait for the next release.

Yes this is a fantastic beta release.
I still think NJ takes the cake by a mile on producing the best alpha/beta versions of his emulators - and at those states, the emu's are near perfect!
I can't wait for the next version of the GBA emu...really fantastic work, unbelievable.

ok, i noticed that some of you don't know what a good dump is, i will tell you..:)
have you ever had a day, when you eat like there will be no tomorrow and then you have to take the biggest "dump" ever. You rush to the bathroom, only to be stopped because someone else beat you to it. In that moment of wait, you most likely feel angry and are banging on the door for that person to get tha hell out. Finally, the person gets out of the bathroom, you rush in and "dump". That feeling you get at that moment is what makes a "dump" a "good dump". :D
-Edit- sorry, wrong definition of a dump...

At last, I've the chance to try this emu..
Rom to try :
- Pokemon Green-leaf
- Monopoly
Impressive ! Pkm ran almost at full speed (though I'm used to be spoiled by Visualboy Advance to get it faster by pressing Space-bar on my PC) But it's really playable even the sound went funny. But it's a great play with Monopoly (perhaps it's a smaller Rom ?) with a very nice sound production.
Tried to copy pokemon save file from VBA and it worked (the game said it's corrupted but then it add to revert to last save and.. voila, my save file is ok !). Tried to save-in game and quit.. Continue and.. Worked !
Like anybody else, I wish there'll be Rom changing option, better sound-producing, save-state and a better GUI (with exit option) on the next release. Oh and I don't really like wide-screen mode, so hope there'll be a screen display option. Oh, shame on me for so much to ask :D
But this is a very good start. Thank you !

well he made his own, and you were porting one already made, wich is why his runs faster as it was made Specialy for the psp right?
Even if he had rewritten a GBA emulator from zero using classical software emulation, it won't be as fast as it is now. What Exophase has done is a much more complex task, because he had develop a JIT ("Just In Time Recompiler") that translates ARM (GBA) instructions in MIPS (PSP) instructions ... What he has done alone is awesome ! He has nothing to learn, and no advices to receive lol !
(i mean no disrespect, you vbapsp was awsome)
Compared to what he has done, my port is really easy to do ;) ...
what type of things did you guys discuss, im sure were all wondering it.
Ideas about how to improve speed a little bit more :)

I'm just near to love you for this man(?) : )
all the homebrew for gba works nearly as on
the real hardware.
For example st sound advance or the port of thrust.
it's awesome.

I have a 1.5. I've tried everything I've read here to get this to work. I know exactly how Dementia7 felt!I Kxploited it and SeiPSP'ed it. Always the same thing, tells me I need the bios. But I'm 99.99% sure I have the correct ones. So, forgive me if this is a dumb question, but does this only work with a 1.0? The last post by Blazed247 was saying that is the case if I was understanding him right.

no this works on 1.5, on the first page in the first post there's one for 1.5 and make sure the gba_bios.bin are in the same folder as the eboot file

Funny, after I posted, i checked out the first post and downloaded the 1.5 and thought that was what I did wrong, still no luck. I put the bios in the file with the % and then the one without the %. I know it's something I am doing. After I Kxploited it with the 1.5 it just says the game won't start. Am I supposed to be using the .scr file with the 1.5 someway? I am beginning to feel really stupid, but I have never worked with a beta file before and maybe that's my problem. Anyway, thanks for your answer, greatly appreciated. Maybe if I just keep trying different things I'll accidently get it to work :)

u don't have to kxploit just put both of the folders in ur GAME folder and the bios go in the folder w/out the %, sorry i should have mentioned that :)

August 26th, 2006, 06:36
OK I did just what you said and now I know for sure the problem is that I don't have the correct bios. Thank you so much, at least I don't feel so stupid. Now let the searching begin (again!) :)

I've tried it only now and boy ain't it great!!
I've tried some roms but Fire Emblem and Tales of Phantasia freeze when I try to start a new game the others work pretty well at 0 and 1 frameskip..
Anyway is there a save state feature or should I use the game's save point? Also any news on when this great emu will be able to load 32mb roms?
Sorry if somebody already asked these questions but I don't have enough time to read 46 pages :).

uruz- no save state (use INgame save, it works)
32MB games dont work..yet..
and as for everyone else, he DID give back a comment on his new release, im qouting from my head, its not his exact words buts its basicly it
"the next release is due in a few days, no save state feture still, but it will support up to 128k saves, and NO MORE crashes, its a thing of the past now"
to find the his EXACT words, check the QJ.NET forums.
