Looks like some people are going on a bricking spree, here....I know this downdater sounds simple enough to execute, but I just wanna advise those who listen to just wait a little more for someone to make an .exe file, before attempting this thing...I'm sure it won't be long.

wow.... it seems like there is bugs with this... maybe libtiff doesnt have an easy time to access kernel mode:confused: thats my theory.... it should explain all the occasional glitches and bricks.

what if the psp's that was a factory bought 1.5 were teh oned downgraded... it would explain how they worked again with the downgrader. or maybe the highest fw for a successful downgrade is a factory bought 2.6( which whoever had this obviously upgraded to 2.71)... this could explain more... theory

alright, im going to officaly announce the suggested unbricking method bs, so, dont bother trying, i think if i sell all my psp games, i could make some money twoards an UP mod chip

download the file downdater271_all and open it up. you will see the folder called MS_ROOT, open it .
copy all files , i didnt copy the readme files.
and paste them into the psp memory card (right beside the folders * PSP and MP_ROOT .
then OK the overwrite of the PSP/PHOTO file


make sure the switch is on card not wifi (up position)

close usb connection view the photo file

is that plain english enough

A few question if i may ask.

Does the firmware dump require it to be on the same region? Like a Jap PSP needs to have a Jap firmware dump. That maybe the key to succesful upgrade. Its just a theory. I have never been involved in the homebrew scene. I came up with this theory when i saw the different firmware updaters and the different firmware dumps.

Can anyone reply asap? Thinking of doing the downgrade.

I'm pretty sure i know what most people who bricked their PSP's are doing wrong (and feared this as soon as i read the downgrading instructions).

While to me its cliear that the files INSIDE the MS_ROOT folder go on the root of your PSP, some people are going to inevitibly put the MS_ROOT folder itself in the ROOT of their PSP. So they would have

PSP:/PSP/PHOTO/Tiffile.
PSP:/MS_ROOT/(Downdaterfiles)
PSP:/DOWNDATER/
PSP:/MP_ROOT/

/\ WHICH IS INCORRECT.

Supposed to be:
PSP:/PSP/PHOTO/Tiffile.
PSP:/(Downdaterfiles)
PSP:/DOWNDATER/
PSP:/MP_ROOT/

So yeah, be careful with the directions. If you follow the directions perfectly, have a good firmware dump, and your PSP is NOT a TI-82, this is 100% working!

u can record another succesful downgrade, i just downgraded my cousin's PSP on the 2nd try. I bought myself a used psp sunday, searching for @ least a 1.51 - 2.0 relentlessly, (i found a 1.52, that i downgraded to 1.5 thankfully) thinking there wasn't gonna be a 2.7+ exploit any time soon....man was i wrong :D. I checked the dump files from the PSP-hacks downdater.rar files and the psp hacks 1.50 japanese dump files. There is a significant increase in number of files and file size.

Just thought everyone would like to know that i just Downgraded 2 of my frends 2.71 psp's. It worked perfectly! However it took me a while to get that red screen. I probably took 10-15 tries (turning the psp off and on) until i got it to work. But once it turned red i was relieved. Anyway....it works well.

It seems there are quite a bit of people who for the first time experiencing the freedom of a 1.50 PSP. This is awesome for the PSP homebrew community. The larger we get and the more 1.50 PSP users there are the stronger our scene will be.

It is also important that we continue to help friends, relatives, and all other PSP owners downgrade to 1.50. Whip out your PSP at school, work, wherever and show people what a 1.50 can do. I guarantee you will spark peoples interest.

The PSP homebrew scene is becoming more than the average homebrew scene. It is starting to feel like a movement. A global cause for PSP freedom, vitality, & longevity.

What version FW did your PSP had when you got it?
I've used this downgrade on 5 psp (mines and friends) and it all worked, maybe because they were all once FW 1.50

oh also to play it safe, I would charge my PSP 100%
and reformat the mem stick.

oh and also I would unplug any wires (usb) and have the Wfi off, this is what I did on all those psps.

Ive tried well over 20 times now, for no result.

Yes, its a 2.71

I did format my memory stick before i put the files in. Infact, ive removed the files and formatted again in hope that it would work the second time around.

I do not have any other files on my mem stick.

the onlything I did was DL'ed the files from psp-hack
the just click and pasted, that's it!!! I also made sure that all the psp's were 100% fully charged and that the AC was plug in, and the Wfi off. I also waited 5-7 sec to turn the psp back on right after the red display.

I'd try the downgrade to gain back my n64 emu, but:
a. No access to a 1.5 psp
b. Scared of bricks :(

I'll be waiting for the eloader. there is a point, i have no money. I can't buy from the internet, and people should take their psp's back if they have the receipt. Its free and you get a new psp. Im not going to buy another psp, i am just going to return mine and get a free new one.

...they wont exchange items that have nothing wrong with them (well yours is bricked), or if you have done something to them to make them stop working (which you did). people who work in games stores etc are'nt as dumb as you would like to think... they know all about whats going on within the underworld of the psp!

as long as you have the receipt they will replace something thats ****ed if you lie. Ive done it plenty of times before and it is from a supermarket not a games shop. My ipod nano was smashed up and i never had a receipt but i still got a refund. Im not sure if its the same for america however.

You can upgrade to 2.71 (Get the files from http://www.psp-hacks.com) and then downgrade. Or if you have GTA you can downgrade from 2.5.

1) Copy the folders downhelper and downhelper% from the folder 1.50 HELPER folder to
/PSP/GAME/ in your memstick.

2) Obtain the 1.50 updater and put it in /PSP/GAME/UPDATE in your memstick.

Some download links for it:

3) Init the downhelper program.
It will dump your flash and some files from the updater eboot to the memstick.

4) After that, the program will exit. You can now delete the updater from /PSP/GAME/UPDATE

5) You'll notice that you have a new folder in the root of your memstick called "DOWNDATER".
That's the folder you'll have to send to a 2.71 to let him use the downdater.

Ok well....the Wlan thing and removal of battery (Clean Filter reboot) have not worked.
So....

A couple of hints guys....

I'd recommend that you DO NOT USE anything BUT a 32mb card - i found out that 2bg cards have been known to brick 2.60 machines (i didn't know this either!)

Probably best to ensure you have 100% battery as i did not.

Take your battery out for like 20 seconds then put it back in and try again if that dont work just wait for the eloader.

I have IC1003 printed inside my UMD drive, SH**!!!!
I got my PSP from the MyCokeRewards program and REALLY want to play homebrew games. Damn! I was so excited last night about this development. i hv 2.01 psp so i need to update it to 2.71 then dwngrd,but i hv read that 2.71 update works only on psp 1001k model, so if i didnt hv 1001k model i cant use 2.71 dwngrdr? i mean that is there an 2.71 update for non 1001k models?

osiris= find 0okm and pm or email him he has a way to downgrade TA-082 but I don't know a lot of details about it other that it takes around 45 mins to do. Something to do with each TA-082 having a unique key to obstruct homebrew.
afs- the safer way is to upgrade to 2.5 or 2.6 and downgrade using the 2.5/6 downgrader. a lot less risky. you can find it here or on the psp-hack site, but you will need the use of GTA:LCS unpatched (but only for the download)
