View Full Version : PS1P Alpha 1 Released - Playstation One Emulator for PSP

This emulator sucks as far as compatability as far as I'm concerned, the compatability is HORRIBLE. I give alot of credit to the coder and everything, I just think he shouldn't have released it until compatability was better. Wow FF7 works, well the whole PSX community isn't FF fans so just because this emulator can run one game that "everyone" likes it's instantly a great emulator. It doesn't run great games like Tomba! or Tomb Raider? Resident Evil 2 starts up fine but when you get to gameplay you can't move your character, a problem that should have been fixed for the release. I'm not some *** that like FF, so I'm not giving this emulator props because the compatability is HORRIBLE. I wish the "AC" all the well in future builds I just don't think he should have released it yet. Hardly any good games run on it, and I think the only reason this emulator is getting such praise because it can run FF7. Now before all the FF fans come on here and decide to "flame" me or whatever you "gamers" call making fun of someone, if you WERE'NT a FF fan what good would this emulator be in this state? I just think he released it to early, we didn't need it just yet I mean PSP-X just came out not to long ago.
Don't use "we" and pretend you talk for the community. This is a great release. Please note this is *alpha*. Look up what Alpha means. Better yet since you seem to be incapable of doing any thing on a computer but whine about Resident Evil 2 I'll do it for you.
The alpha version of a product still awaits full debugging or full implementation of all its functionality but satisfies a majority of the software requirements. It often lacks features promised in the final release but demonstrates the feasibility and basic structure of the software.
The alpha build of the software is the first build delivered to the software testers.
I am *thankful* that AC has taken his time to make such a program which is great even in Alpha.
So stop being an ungrateful little wretch. If you don't like it volunteer to help code it.

I was going to anyway =P i love that game. I will get you to the first game save but the characters will have default names...
As for Resident Evil 2, there is a problem with loading. Whenever you load a character the moddle never shows. For example Loading Hunk crashes the game as well as tofu (both on the save file i posted). Leon wouldntload either but the game didnt crash, i could still get into the menu and stuff etc.
So theres something to be fixed. Anyway I will work on that FF9 save...

not saying i agree with cpt morgan, but i really think it is a bit overrated. dont get me wrong. i really appreciate the work gone into it, but the compatability is lacking. i know it is an alpha and ill keep a close eye on it's development. but just because it can play ff7 every ff fan out there says this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. i agree with cpt morgan in saying that not all of those who downloaded this emu is a ff fan.
I just wish i could play metal gear and the original tony hawk games...

Well firstly, thanks a bunch to A.C, might not have greatest compatibility, but he's plugging away trying to get this emulator working, and he deserves respect for that. (Probably only released alpha so early cause everyone was impatient :P LOL)
Secondly, seen a lot of "My image wont got past the "loading game screen"", etc, way I solved that here was to use IsoBuster, rip as RAW (bin/iso), and voila, a Bin file that seems to work perfectly.
PS. FF7 runs maybe 75% speed in game, 25-50% in battles here...predominantly 25%....but it's a start! :D
PPS. If you gonna whine or say bad crap about AC or PS1P, go elsewhere, AC is doing a great job and doesnt need the negative crap, keep the posts helpful.
(My two cents :P)
Huh, how the hell did you manage that, I only get like 40% on the map, and 10% in battles, what firmware you running, i'm running 1.5. The img file is good i think because its my own and i've tested on ePSXe and even downloaded another file and its the same thing, if you have 1.5 too could you send me your BIOS in a link in a PM? :P

Thi emulator is so cool. Now I dont have to upgrade from my 2.71 C to 3.01. The question is this, I notice that the games have no sound, is this going to be fix?? Also, all of us know that memory space is a big issue for all of us, YEAH!!!! even for us that have 4g, YEAH, more is good. Well, is there a way to rip PSX games or make them more comparable to emulate and smaller????? I know that later some of U will say something like Im stupid, but I most say Im happy to see the next version of it. Nice JOD MEN. THANKS FROM ALL THAT ARE STILL MODING AND PLAYING GAMES FOR FREE FROM THERE MEMORY STICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps. Thanks guys for the saves, and anyone with the RE2 saves send em to me by PM or post em here, I'll take any of them since mine won't work. It's worth a try because all I get is Leon dancin to Fat Joe and the Terror Squad's Lean Back!

JpDeathBlade I tired your save and I only see the Survivor 4 saves. I tried a savestate from the start that TaticalBread sent me but I'm behind the fire and can't like move really. Do you think you could get to the gunshop and SAVESTATE it instead of saving it on the memory card, if you do it there don't wait till the zombies attack him because I like getting the shotgun from him. You don't have to save it with the memory card just enter the gunshop and savestate it (l+r+left) and then put a link up here. The file you posted earlier ONLY showed the Survivor 4 saves no Leon's in the hall, if you could get Leon to just enter the gunshop then savestate it I'd appreciate it alot.

Sorry for that Leon is saved a little farther down. See on the origanal there were 4 more resident evil saves. Again Sorry about that. They dont work anyway bc Ps1p has a problem with loading RE2 gamesaves.
To statesave i would need a working RE2 but atm it will be impossable unless the epsxe statesave works on this...in which case i need to lear to statesave on that =P

So it's not happening? It's cool, but if there's anyway you can get my RE2 working then holla at me. Because when I try my RE2 that I ripped it just has Leon jerkin back and forth. How does your RE2 work but mine doesn't? Like some people have my problem where he just leans back and forth and can't move and then some like you work fine. Sucks for me.

Is it normal that RE3 is lagging & there is no sound in game?
Jpdeathblade
November 28th, 2006, 22:31
Yes it is. You see this build of ps1p dose not have a Decompiler (or whatever you guys call it).
That means it will never run full speed or have sound. Now what this Decompiler does is very simple and can be explained easly (little bit later i will). With that in place we should see 100% speed and sound emulation.
Basicly the ps1p is your mom and the game is you. Your mom asks you to do something then you sit down. Once you sit your mom asks for something else. And so on. Well the decompiler makes it so that you do all these task then sit down. So instead of starting and stopping 100 times it runs the entire thing then stops when needed =P
I am hoping to get more games this weekend bc my friend owns 100's of ps1 games and I am trying to get him to come over for a night. If anyone else wants some gamesave or something (like the re2 saves) let me know, ill try and get them. I might need you to send me the iso tho...

To my knowlage this runs on 1.0 to 2.80 with no problems. I also have it running on 2.71se-b'', but im not sure about any se under b''.
Also if anyone has any other questions about this please pm or email me. I will try and get back to you asap.

That's not really accurate. A better analogy is, imagine your mom is used to giving instructions to your idiot brother. She writes them out in a long list of simple, basic steps so he can understand. Now you're smarter than your bro so when your mom writes out instructions for you to do the same job, she can do it in fewer steps cuz she doesn't have to spell out every little detail for you. Fewer steps = the job gets done quicker.
In this analogy, the job = the game, your idiot brother = the PS1, you = the PSP. The job of the recompiler is to rewrite that long list of instructions into the shorter one.
Hopefully, by taking advantage of the PSP's extra power in this way the recompiler can make up for the slowness of the emulation process. However there's no guarantee that this extra efficiency will lead to 100% speed plus sound - there's no way of knowing until it's done.

Yeah I've tried this game and it works but there's quite a lot of glitches in the graphics. Abe leaves trails behind him and the scrolling text is unreadable. Still it does run and looks promising for future versions.

Wow, how many idiots attracted by this thing.
Also, all the stuff about dynamic RECOMPILATION (and not DECOMPILATION) is wrong. Read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_recompilation
Also, Tomba! 1 doesn't work, I tried. Too bad though, I really like that game.
tunglashor
November 29th, 2006, 19:11
That recompilation example in wikipedia is exactly what I was talking about. The long list of simple steps:
mov C,[A]
mov [B],C
cmp [B],#0
etc
get replaced with a single step
movs [B],[A]
on the more powerful processor.
Tinnus
November 29th, 2006, 20:32
But that's not the main idea, and usually it's not what happens in fact. The main purpose is to translate a big block of code at once and keep the translated code stored somewhere, so when you want to run it again it's already translated.
The living proof of that is gpSP--it's dynamically recompiling ARM code to MIPS code. And ARM is far more complex than MIPS. Yet that dynarec (which translates, in lots of cases, one instruction to more than one) is what brings fast GBA to your PSP system :)

huh, this looks like a code machine optimizer than a dynarec to me.
First, when you need to emulate another architecture, you will have a different memory layout, so this example is not a good one. A dynarec would probably look like :
[original code]
mov C,[A]
mov [B],C
beq [B],#0, exit
...
[dynarec code]
movi a0, A
call translate_address // returns into v0 the translated address A
mov r1, [v0]
movi a0, B
call translate_address // returns into v0 the translated address B
mov r0, [v0]
cmp r0, 0
jz exit
...
as you can see they are different instructions and much longer than the original instructions because of the architecture of the target machine. But since the target machine is faster than the orginal machine, you can execute them to emulate the original code.
and yes Tinnus is right.

Ok thx, i was told one way I guess I missunderstood =P, It does clear things up.
Quick question tho, as anyone let this run till the battery died? How long does it take and will it be faster with the Recompiler or decompiler or w/e we are calling it now =P (ps im going to start calling it thingy that makes ps1 faster..)
hlide
November 29th, 2006, 22:42
Recompiler or decompiler
decompiler means translating machine code into source code. Here you cannot obviously call it a decompiler.
A recompiler means translating a machine code into another machine code, which is perfectly the case here.
Dynamic recompiler because you recompile machine code at run-time.

Great work on the emu, I tried FF7 earlier and after a minute of nothing but the memory card light flashing, I was gobsmacked to see the squaresoft logo. But for every good thing, there is an equally bad one.
So I go to load, and nothing shows up...
I downloaded the save file attached to the authors post, but it appears as empty on the FF7 menu. I'm playing the PAL (UK) version of the game, and put MCD001.MCR in the same directiory as the BIOS and .BIN, but it didn't work.
Has anyone else had this problem, or can someone PM/reply to me with their copy of the save file please.
Oh, and as a quick question, what is the difference (speed, graphics etc) between this emulator and the one by yohinori (or whatever his name was).

You can add to the list on this page yourself: http://psp.m0th.com/
As for Gran Turismo I haven't tried it but a lot of games crash at some point, it's early days for this emulator so hopefully it will work better in future versions.
You can't overclock the PSP and you can't damage it by using PS1P. The 'CPU%' setting is more like a frameskip feature as far as I can tell - sometimes a high value will speed a game up, sometimes a low value is better - it varies depending on the game, you just have to try it and see what happens. You can't brick your PSP by setting it too high though.

You both need to put that folder in the GAME Folder in PSP/GAME/
Then put your ISOs in the _SCI_(blablabla)...
then run the game in your PSP. (make sure you have a 1.5 PSP).

hi
can someone say me there i can download ff7
Sorry, no can do. If you already own the game, it isn't that hard to make an image of it, seeing as the PS1 uses CDs, and your computer probably does have a CD-ROM compatible drive (if not, buy one. There are ones on ebay for as little as £2 new). Just use a program like MagicISO and your done.

Got this running last night, ripped my Wipeout PSone game using MagicISO to give it a try and unfortunately it freezes at the menu.
However, its pretty impressive to have got it running as far as it has, and I'm going to dig out my other PSone games and see if any of those work.
Look forward to this becoming more stable and fully functional.

I have just finished reading all 59 pages of this thread and got FF7 to work on my 1.5fw psp.
For those of you who haven't figured this out. IT will not work on 3.0
Stop asking how to place the files on your memory stick. it was posted more than once and it clear and easy to understand. If you don't get that, then you probably shouldn't be messing with ISO's and your PSP.
It isn't a realistic expectation to have people walk you through this by sending you emails. If I can sit here and read all the pages and make it work, so can you.
Don't post with another question about what firmware is needed or how to instal until you have read the entire thread.

Jesus Christ.... its attack of the noobs... this thread needs massive cleaning or closure...
let me help a few of you who aren't bright enough to read the README file
1) THIS WILL NOT RUN ON 3.00, 3.01, OR 3.02.
2) THE BIOS GOES IN PSP/GAME/__SCE__ps1p. IT SHOULD BE SCPH1001.BIN
3)LEGALLY BACKED UP ISOS GO IN THE SAME FOLDER AS THE BIOS.
There, that answered pretty much this whole page of questions... Its amazing when you actually read the readme

3.02oe custom firmware runs psx games now by the use of eboots, so i guess this emulator has no use now, unless the next release runs 100%. sony is only releasing a couple of psx games per month. it would be nice if someone could make a iso -> eboot converter, that would be sweet, so we can just convert the games that we already own instead of waiting for sony to release 10 shitty games and maybe one good one.

well....dont need a ps3 to download them no more. either way, this emulator runs EXTREMELY slow, nothing's playable yet, no sound, speed is rediculously slow. i mean it's a good emu cuz it can run iso's. but it's no use if it can't run anything at full speed.

Anch: You just get the Ps1p% folder and the Ps1p and put in the game folder then put in your iso's in the ps1p folder.

All you noobs out there. Listen up.
A. Theres now 62 pages. If you have a question, it's almost guaranteed to have been answered by now, so get to reading.
B. To all those who still cant seem to figure out where to put the files, it's been explained about 100 times in this forum, and its in the readme. Read It.
C. To the twits that keep asking for ISO's and BIOS's, don't. I haven't been here that long myself, and even I'm smart enough to realise that no-one here is stupid enough to post something like that. It aint allowed on the forum. Google is your friend, use it.
D. Had someone while ago after last post askin me what firmware i was running, is 2.7 (Scary but true...price of buying a new PSP after a dead one :|)
E. For all you patient people who can't get their favorite games working, get hooked on FF7 ;) At least you'll enjoy self while AC does his magic ;)
....and finally...F. Windows 95 on PSP? YOU SICK PUPPY! Lmao! Micro$oft is as bad as sony :P If not worse :P *shudders at thought of that OS on his poor lil PSP*

Fullspeed with sound emulated consoles that I use: NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and PSX. Please for the love of god StrmnNrmn come back and post at least SOMETHING, we need Nintendo 64! If we have N64 the PSP will probably go down as the best portable console ever! With 3.03 OE-A and having all these emulators and the 3.03 firmware options it's just breath taking at how great this system is. Please we need N64 StrmnNrmn and if you don't come back (I believe he will) please some other experienced coder (maybe you AC!) pickup where StrmnNrmn left off or make an N64 emulator from scratch. Yeah your really missing out, best advice I can give you is to NOT upgrade ever again, wait for a downgrader to be made, might be a while but it's WORTH IT! Please take this into serious thought, the PSP is SO much better with homebrew, NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64 (not full spped but still nice), PS1 full speed and sound with save suppot. And you can run all that on 3.03 OE-A' with the 3.03 options and features, but you have to wait for a downgrader until you could get this custom firmware. Sorry

How to start a game on it ?
erm Magic331617 you want to ignore this thread. it shouldn't really be posted on anymore because PS1P is now a past thing. Look up something called Popstation and Firmware 3.03oe.
Can we close this thread now mods? Stop newbies getting confused :P

Having difficulty setting up Ps1p Alpha 1
It boots the emulator and lets me select the iso. Then it says loading game... then after that it crashes. I'm not sure what i've done wrong.
I am using a USB card reader to write to my memory card. I used kxploit on the eboot file that was in the %_SCE_ps1p folder created when unzipping the emulator file to my hard drive.
In the GAME folder of my psp (v1.5) there are two folders
_SCE_ps1p
and
%_SCE_ps1p
inside _SCE_ps1p is the 488kb EBOOT.pbp, 3kb scph1001.bin and Final Fantasy 7 Disc 1.iso
and inside %_SCE_ps1p is the KXploited file
EBOOT.pbp which is 65kb
Yet it does not work. Also, when i plug the card reader back into my computer afterwards, it now doesnt recognise the memory card
Could someone please tell me what i'm doing wrong.
Thanks

Well, seeing that once POPS came out via 3.03 OE, the PSX homebrew emus apparently went the way of the dinosaur...
Just upgrade to 3.03 OE-C, use IceTea and convert said ISO into an Eboot and play the game that way. I don't want to knock the homebrewers down, but there hasn't been any updates to this since the dawn of custom firmware, and I am seriously beginning to think the project was dumped.

If you do update to 3.03 OE-C is there risk of bricking psp? Also from 3.30 OE-C can you update to official sony firmware i.e. 3.10

Where do you get POPS or is it built into 3.03 OE-C?
Can you just upgrade to 3.03 OE-C from FW1.50?
pkmaximum
February 4th, 2007, 00:53
It will require the new custom firmware from Dark_Alex I reccomend V3.03 OE-C. And its definently worth upgrading too. Once you do that making your own PSX eboots is pretty simple with all the new GUI's out.

Just get 3.03 OE-C man and you'll have POPS, definatlly worth upgrading to as you'll have full speed PSX emulation and tons of other funtions as well and yes 1.50 to 3.03 OE-C is possible just search the forums for the updates and files needed umm.. kinda has me wondering remember the days when every PSP websites forums had stupid people saying they would never upgrade from 1.50 even tho there was 3.02 OE-B out? Wonder how many v!.5 users are left out there now that there is 3.03 OE-C and POPS? And that time everyone hated Dark_Alex? I never hated him cos i was'nt dumb enough to downgrade with one his beta versions of the 2.5-2.6 downgraders and also he won me over when he first made DAX compression and the DAX loader :D

No you don't, if it doesn't work, then just simply delete the files of which you placed on your memory card.

Well its illegal to share the file I believe. Personally, I'd think you'd be a lot happier using Popstation via 3.03 OE-C or 3.10 OE. Use the app Ice Tea to convert your PSX game images into Eboot format.

This emulator cannot in any way permanently damage you psp... it probably just froze or something. Try holding power down for about 10 seconds then turning it on again.

id like to see a new version of PS1p or maybe a Gamecube port :) psx on gamecube would be sweet

not really much point in a update for this for the psp at least, gamecube port sounds like a interesting idea tho ;)

why is this at the top of the forums? popstation is like 100,000 times better.

March 27th, 2007, 00:02
prolly the 1.5 owners would want this if they refuse to upgrade to the custom firmwire. so an update would be good for them

Because PS1P is the only homebrew emulator for PSP

Gamecube sounds nice.
Anyway, what I heard from the guy some time ago is that he had basically stopped due to the whole official emulator/custom firmware thing.
I might come up with something completely new one of these days though. Only an idea currently...

Stupid pcsx theives. Anyways, discussion of this has been over for a long time, and this topic (which breaks screens) shouldn't stay at the top, so as is often done with ancient things that have been bumped...
