I had run ps3sixaxis_en from start, Run, typing in cmd, and then running ps3sixaxis_en from there, just double clicking it didn't make the controller work on the test screen.

Does anyone know how to completely remove the libusb program? I downloaded the drivers but not from this site, and it was packed with the 1.12.1 version of libusb, when I uninstall it and install libusb 1.10.1 it does not work, the test says version 1.12.1 driver version -1,-1,-1,-1. I deleted the libusb0.dll from windows/system32 but it did nothing the driver version stays the same and so does ther version number, any idea's?

Hello everyone my brother had installed your PS3 Sixaxis drivers and it works perfectly for RE4. And well through some trouble shooting it appears to be interfering with my Creative Vision M. Now..i know how to enable the USB through command prompt using ps3sixaxis_en..but...how do i disable it exactly?

My controller is wokring perfectly now (aside from the configuration). The sensitivity problem is over with. the one problem is that the game I want to play the most (a crack of Madden '08 on the PC) keeps crashing when I try to change the button config with the PS controller. Any suggestions? Happening in any other games or is it simply because my version is a crack?

This is the one thing that did work for me. I tried every solution up to this point.
Also please note that if you run ps3sixaxis_en.exe from the command prompt its easier to see the "found PLAYSTATION(R)3 SIXAXIS controller" message.
good job dude.
thank you so much!!!
it worked!
It is still flashing red, but I don't care.
You are my savior!

Anyone that is STILL having trouble (like i was) try TURNING OFF YOUR PS3 if you have one near your computer.
If its on while your trying to use a ps3 controller on your pc, its not going to work.

ok although i consider myself a complete idiot i may have found something on the issue of it not working ... first have i tplugged in and go start>run>cmd .... that should open command prompt then drag the ps3sixaxis_en.exe onto the command prompt this should enter the directory to it and hit enter... wait and it should say "found plastation 3 controller" now go to start all programs and open the libusb test program... u should see something implicating its recognizing the ps3 controller....now the problem i had is it would always say the name of another usb device i had plugged in so u can try either re running ps3sixaxis_en.exe through cmd and checking under the libusb test program to see if it recognized it and if not try unplugging the detected usb device and running ps3sixaxis_en.exe again. after u get libusb to recognize it u should be set but the main issue i had is it would do this crap all over again when i unplugged the controller or restarted my computer so just run libusb test and do all that crap again till it works.

I have it working to the point where the controller shows/can be calibrated via the control panel.
My problem is that no games i have tried it on (admittedly only CoD4/BIOshock so far) have accepted the input AT ALL.
Is this a game compatibility thing or can i fix this? I personally prefer mouse+keyboard in almost any scenario but my brother is more comfortable with dual joystick.
If all else fails i know the 360 pad is practically plug and play but i don't have a 360 and would rather not have to spend the cash on a controller for a console i don't have.
*edit* it seems to work with games that accept joystick input (X3 and FlightSimX tested in a moment of inspiration). Which sucks because why the hell would i play any game that i use my x45 for with a dual joy (okay, maybe mechwarrior but that is a stretch)?
Does anyone know of a way that i can install it as a standard gamepad as opposed to a joystick (using a generic driver or the like)? Maybe if i could do that i would be able to bind, i doubt it would work but it is probably worth the trouble to save me the cash for a new control pad (we be po').
Also can anyone confirm if placing sixaxis_en.exe in the start folder runs it properly at boot?
*edit number 2* using this program http://www.redcl0ud.com/controlmk/index.html i was able to bind it to my keyboard/mouse so i guess i solved my own problem in that regard. ill test my startup question after im happy with my binds, ill let you know if it works (if anyone is actually reading this).

VISTA USERS:
64 bit is not supported, you have to hope that both libusb and the sixaxis loader get updated (which isn't looking likely)
32 bit there is a workaround, here's how to do it:
1- download the package (http://dl.qj.net/SIXAXIS-driver-for-PC-PlayStation-3/pg/12/fid/11679/catid/518)
2- unpackage the files to somewhere you will keep them.
3- if you have previously installed it, make sure you delete the files C:\Windows\System32\libusb0.dll and C:\Windows\System32\drivers\libusb0.sys. This applies even if you uninstalled it already.
4- right click the installer (libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe), go to the compatibility tab, and choose XP SP2 compatibility.
5- right click the installer and run it as administrator.
6- when the installer is done you can plug your controller in
7- run ps2sixaxis_en.exe
8- press the PS button a few times, and it should now work.
General tips:
* You have to run ps2sixaxis_en.exe every time windows starts (I just put a shortcut to it in my start menu -> startup)
* Remember that if your PS3 is nearby you have to turn it off at the switch or wall
* I read that some games will recognise the left stick as a joystick, although I haven't tried it out yet
* Don't use the latest libusb, it doesn't work with ps2sixaxis_en.exe and it gives you a BSOD every time you shutdown.
Spread the word:
Not many people know how to get it working on Vista - it took me a bit of trial and error to make it work. If you know people/boards who need this info copy/paste it to them. It'll only take you a few seconds.

Mine worked perfectly on vista 32bit from the start :D. Anyway im having trouble with rugby 08 and fifa 08. i just wish there was a place to calibrate the controller in windows to make some buttons standard. Pro evo08 detects all the buttons fine but cause there is no calibration in rugby my left stick is to run fast and everything is just in the wrong place.

Does anyone know if this supports like all games? The controller works fine but all i really have on my comp for a controller is steam games. I tried 'Portal' i can move backwards forwards etc with the left analogue but no other button did anything. e.g. No way to shoot a portal, look up or down. Any help on this im not great with figuring out these sorts of things and also im pretty lazy :P

I got my controller to work, I went to configure the controller. When going to do analog stick, I can only set up and left up and right, down and left or down and right for each analog stick.
I am using Project 64 and No Mercy, Every other control I can do but the analog sticks, now I only have two taunts because I can only use two of the directions on each analog stick.
I had to divide up the c-buttons one of them is square, left and right ones are the l2 and R2 triggers, l1 and r2 are the L and R buttons
I can play the game but can only perform two taunts, not a big deal but still.
Will take some getting used to but I can play the game no problem and that is all that matters, so I lose two taunts, big deal everything else works.

Unless the actual 6 axis controls are implemented it wouldn't be much better than the xbox 360 controller which also works with windows XP.
Yeah, you're kinda right, except the PS3 controller is much more comfortable and works much better for old school games than the 360 hunk of crap does.

Got mine to work on VISTA Ultimate 32bit, before I give my FAQ, I need to spell out a few things.
STOP AND READ, if any of these are you don't continue.
1.) If you cant open a rar file, and are stuck there, then you are a retard and shouldn't be doing this.
2.) If you don't know that dos windows open then close unless in a command prompt, you also fall into the retard category as the people in number 1.
3.) The lights are suppose to blink 29 pages and you still don't get it?
4.) NO it doesn't work via blue tooth only cable.
***Now I feel better****
Here was my issue.
Bought a new PS3 controller (dont own a PS3)
Plugged the controller in, Vista found some crazy driver for it, nothing to do with Human Interface Devices of HID's, didnt show up in the Game Controllers either. But the ps3sixaxis_enu did show it was connected.
My Vista was trashed anyways so I did a fresh installed.
1.) First thing I did once I logged in for the first time before anything else was plugged the ps3 controller in with Device Manager open.
Vista found the controller this time and placed it under Human Interface Devices!
(YES one step further than before)
2.) Next thing I did was unplug and plugged it into all of my USB ports to make sure it was recognized by all them as an HID device! *optional*
3.) Went to the control panel then game controls and it shows up.
4.) Unrared the file (Already had it backed up before redoing my Vista)
5.) Next figured run the PS3sixaxis_en.exe, but it tells me its missing a DLL file.
6.) I installed the LibUSB-Win32-0.1.10.1 file, ran the test and it showed verions 1.10.1 like it should.
7.) Ran the ps3sixaxis_en.exe, it opened and closed like it should.
8.) Went back into game controllers and clicked advanced, All the buttons were working and the axis were working did not have to calibrate or push the Playstation button for 5 second.
***Other things***
Having a shortcut to the PS3sixaxis_en.exe in your startup is ok, but here is something I noticed, if I unplug the controller once windows is booted up, then plug it back in again. I have to run the PS3sixaxis_en.exe.
So everytime you plug and plug your controller back in, it will need to be re-ran. I found this out because buying a PS3 controller they dont give you a USB to mini USB cable, so Im sharing a cable with my external hard drive for the time being.
Either way, most likely the problem is people have so many different programs and stuff installed on their system. A clean install and the first thing done is plug in the controller, even before the video drivers or any other drivers for the system might fix your problem.

December 20th, 2007, 17:22
not to add more stuff to the confusion but ...
there's no libusb0 file on vista :D (only on xp)
the driver works, and the controller is recognized
but is more of a hit or miss type of thing ...
(using the same drivers in a HORI FS3)

December 24th, 2007, 12:42
I seem to have found the source of problems. So here's the stroy:
It works fine on my sister's PC. The controller appears like this in her Device Manager :
http://img1.tar.hu/crash/img/33180448.jpg
You see ? It says it right there in the red circle I added.
On my PC, it doesn't work. And here's how the controller appears in my Device Manager:
http://img1.tar.hu/crash/img/33180449.jpg
See? It isn't named PS3-blablabla, just "USB device". And so it is no wonder the ps3sixaxis_en.exe cannot find it.
I don't really know how to solve this, but I was kinda hoping that the founder of this driver would. Hope tihs helps him.
PS.
Sorry about the gibberish language in the pics xD , but I think the point can be made out
preetyforu
December 27th, 2007, 02:22
Surprising? It was only a matter of time. Yes, the SIXAXIS can be used in Windows. wraggster was able to come up with a driver for you PC to recognize the PS3 controller. It works as a USB HID on Windows, but he still recommends that your OS should be Windows XP or higher.
Here are the instructions:
Download and install the filter driver (libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe).
Unpack ps3sixaxis_en.exe
Plug the SIXAXIS into your PC.
Run ps3sixaxis_en.exe once.
Push the PS button on the SIXAXIS once if it doesn’t see it straight away.
Now before anything else, we’ve been hearing that the driver doesn’t work for a couple of people. We’re really not sure why, but if you follow the instructions carefully, we’re sure you’d do fine. We’ve even gotten confirmation that someone was able to run it on a MacBook Pro via Boot Camp Win XP.
Yeah, the motion-sensing doesn’t work, but hey!, it’s a damn good start as any other! If the Wiimote’s motion-sensors are already recognized, then soon enough, the SIXAXIS would be just as competent.

December 29th, 2007, 00:46
To everybody who is having problems getting Windows to recognize the buttons:
First, be absolutely sure that both libusb0.dll and libusb0.sys are version 0.1.10.1 in your c:\windows\system32 and c:\windows\system32\drivers directory's. You can find these files easily by doing a search for "libusb". If they are not version 0.1.10.1 then delete them and reinstall libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe.
Once you have reinstalled libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe run ps3sixaxis_en.exe.
You should now go into Control Panel -> Game Controllers -> highlight "Playstation(R)3 Controller" -> Properties. Press the Playstation button on the controller and it should work.
I had a hell of a time trying to figure this out. I hope this helps everybody.

I had some trouble getting this set up, but only because I wasn't paying close attention and installed the wrong driver version. I did a system restore to earlier in the day, installed the correct driver, and everything works great now! I hope someone can figure out how to get the Bluetooth working though... I have a dongle ready to get some use! :)

Okay, guys. I read to page nine of the thread, and tried every remedy that had sprung up.
I am running Vista x64 Ultimate. I followed the instructions as accurately as i could. As everybody else is stating, the controller blinks with all four leds. I gathered this is how it should be.
Now, in Device Manager the controller is listed in the "Human Interface Devices" twice. You've got the "HID-compliant game controller" and a "USB human interface device" which I had two of before I installed. Inside the test-program it says:
"DLL version: 0.1.10.1
Driver version: -1.-1.-1.-1
bus/device idVendor/idProduct"
Always the same. Tried to press the PS-button, to hold it for 5 seconds, for 10 seconds, inside the properties for the driver and I also tried not to press it.
Anyone with exactly the same problem in 64-bit Vista? And has the sprung up any remedies for this?
Robincol
January 6th, 2008, 23:39
1. Download the files, and use the "libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1" file. Follow the instructions until its installed.
2. Plug in the PS3 controller.
3. Open control panel, then game controllers. Make sure its on there. You should notice the PS3 controller is doing nothing right now. Open properties for the controller to enter the test screen, and leave it there.
4. Run "ps3sixaxis_en". It SHOULD open and close. Now go back to the screen where the controller test is and hit the PS button a few times. Button 17 should light up. If it does, congrats, your controller is working.
Thats how i got it to work, I love you guys!

Its just on ProEvo 6 it doesn't seem to like the buttons, as previously posted, it only finds the toogles and L2, any ideas?
PS - Thanks for the tips:)
Have you checked the settings for controllers under the Start menu - START>KONAMI>PRO EVO 6(or whatever ur folder is)>SETTINGS. i often find i have to check that as i use diff controllers for diff games. 360 wont work on GTA series properly

Can't get it working. Installed everything, and it's not detected on my list of drivers. Worst part is I don't know how to uninstall the driver. I might just try a system restore, but still, I don't know why it ain't working.

Ok, I tried everything, and nothing worked.
I'm running windows vista 32, and the way I got it working was:
1.)I installed the driver in safe mode.
2.)I created a new windows profile.
After logging into the new profile, everything is now peaches and cream!
Note: It probably doesn't matter that I've installed it in safe mode...

i ran the test as well and it registered everything well what can the problem be?
ok but if it doesn't work ?
i need the usb driver cause the first post file doesn't work........
any hints ?:D
:)
You'd most likely have to set it up the manual way.
by adding new hardware threw the patch system, its a pain and hardly worth it. It took me forever to do it with the 360 controller.
you mean the 360 usb cable ?
cause i have it but i didn't manage

I didn't want to look through 33 pages for an answer.
I did everything exactly as described, and Windows recognizes it... kind of.
When I go to the Game Controllers options in control Panel, it shows the PS3 controller as working, but when I go to properties, none of the test buttons and axis tests respond. The controller flashes all 4 buttons slowly and then turns off. Any help is appreciated.

OK Im about to pull all my hair out and throw my pc off my balcony. I have been sitting here for hours on end, encountering problem after problem. Okay so i followed the instructions, didnt work. I searched the net, found some hopeful solutions tried them out, and it would seem that it was going to work (when i select test program, the appropriate code comes up) so i go to control panel, game controllers. The ps3 sixaxis is listed, status is OK. I click properties and BOOM error. It says that the game controller isnt connected properly and that i should verify its plugged. What shits me the most is that i could access the test previously, with no numbers lighting up, but now that i seem to have fixed the controller issue i get this problem. I've also tried connecting a 2- axis, 10 button gamepad, and get the same error. PLEASE i am begging anyone who can help to do so, i just dont know what to do anymore.

it didn't work for me at the begining but then after searching here and there i found this . wriitne by Crustie from http://zedomax.com/blog/2006/12/09/ps3-hack-ps3-six-axis-controller-can-be-used-in-windows/
It works, open the control panel on your pc. Click game controllers, select the ps3 controller on the list then click the properties button. Now run the usbdriver exe thingy and immediately press the ‘PS’ button. Then look over to the test window press a few buttons on your controller and you should see some lights light up. If it doesnt work repeat the process. If it still doesnt work make sure your PS3 is powered off with the off switch if it is near by, then reconnect the controller to the PS3 with the usb cable and repeat the steps.
This is the way I have gotten it to work for me pretty simple. I just had another question has anyone gotten the PS3 controller to work via Bluetooth? I have a Belkin Bluetooth USB Adapter and I do a scan for devices and have been unable to the detect the PS3 controller.
and now it works for me 2 .... yeepppppeeeeeee ...

Anyone that is STILL having trouble (like i was) try TURNING OFF YOUR PS3 if you have one near your computer.
If its on while your trying to use a ps3 controller on your pc, its not going to work.
Try turning off the controller when your ps3 is on, by pressing the ps button then on the ps3 go down to turn off controller. (you might need 2 controllers as this may turn back on some time later)

Hi!
I've tried both the driver posted in this thread and that sixaxisdriver.exe. Both worked on my PC but both of them assigned the triggers to buttons. I want to play racing games with this gamepad so I need the triggers to be assigned to axes.
Are there any drivers that assign the triggers to axes or have the function of remapping the sticks, triggers and buttons?

Ok. May have found a simple Solution to some problems that people had before, don't know if anyone's already found this problem and posted it, but hey, why not.
4 LED's light up flashing. Ignore it, it doesn't matter.
Controller's recognised in "Game Controllers" menu in Control Panel. Try to press buttons? No Reactions.
Now, did you install the Lib Filter thing? I think this might've been a BIG MISTAKE.
When you're in the Game controller properties and looking at the button pictures and the axis things, open the Task Manager, find the "lib-something" Process and END it.
Bam. Started getting reactions from the controller.
Peace out.

I found two pages that describe the bluetooth pairing procedure between a computer and the sixaxis controller. So far, the technique has only been implemented in Linux and OS X. I am referencing them here so that more people will understand how the procedure works and so that hopefully someone might create a windows implementation.
Here are the links-
OS X:
http://lists.apple.com/archives/Bluetooth-dev/2007/May/msg00007.html
Linux:
http://www.pabr.org/sixlinux/sixlinux.en.html
The linux version contains some actual code.
Basically, the problem is that the sixaxis controller does not accept incoming bluetooth connections. When used with a PS3, the procedure is to first connect it via USB. When this happens, the PS3 tells the controller the bluetooth id of the PS3 and when the user presses the P button, a connection gets established.
The reason why several people have reported an inability to pair the sixaxis controller with their computers is because they would require connecting the sixaxis via USB first and then running a program to tell the sixaxis the computer's bt-id. At the moment, software for this only exists for OS X and Linux.
Why would someone want to connect a sixaxis to their computer in the first place? Here are some reasons.
1. You get a wireless controller to play PC games.
2. Developers can create software that takes advantage of the accelerometers and gyros in the sixaxis which would likely be innovative, interesting, and entertaining.
3. For my own purposes, a handheld wireless accelerometer package with 6-degrees of freedom (unlike the wimote's 3 degrees of freedom) is more or less a holy grail for studying movement. Typically, something like this might cost tens of thousands of dollars to a researcher like myself so, if there's anyway to make $50 controller do the same thing, that would be amazing.

This is just a test project. Its trying to show how motion sensing on the sixaxis is on its way.
And as for the rest of you who cannot get your sixaxis to work on pc, download the driver posted on the first page, or download the japanese version (which has caused fatal windows hardware errors when installing and uninstalling)
There's another driver that comes from iraq. Yet I am nowhere near there and as a result don't know shit about this driver. If anyone is willing to try it. Go ahead. It sounds reliable. Thats what I thought about the japanese one, and ended up loosing all my data, and having to re-install windows. (I hate activation)
Try this page
http://www.iraqigeek.com/winsixaxis/
direct download link
http://www.iraqigeek.com/download/click.php?id=25
but you need to install libusb
http://nchc.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/libusb-win32/libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe
and you also need to install PPJoy. I do not have a direct link, but check this page
http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=75176
Try this if you want. I am NOT forcing you because force is a crime.
Tips
When restarting, SAFELY Remove (don't just pull it out, check the notification area and "safely remove it there") the sixaxis and then re-boot. Try this at your own risk.
Hope it helps :-]

This is what I did.
1. Uncompress Sixaxis_PS3_Win32_Driver_For_PC.rar
2. Install or double click libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe
3. Plug your Usbcable the comes with Ps3 into your PC
4. Plug your Usbcable attachmate to the ps3
5. Wait 30 sec, it will recognize it.
6. Run the file ps3sixaxis_en.exe
7. Don't worry about what pops up. I did not.
8. Go into Control Panel
9 Go to game controllers
10. You should see yoru controller.
11. select your controller and click Propertise
12. Move the axis around and press buttons, it all works
TESTING: I have assassians creed installed on my PC (winxp), I ran that, went into option, change controller and ps3 showed up and its working!.

For only 12 button cfg, download the japanese version, and install it. But be EXTREMELY careful. I(and many other people who tested the driver) broke my pc the first time. I had to re-install my OS. However the second time was great. It will let you play games like FIFA07/08 And other EA Games which are so stubborn.

If you are still having problems with the ps3sixaxis_en.exe driver, make sure that the attached .dll file corresponds with the correct libusb version. This is most people's problem, as all they see in cmd prompt is "Found x buses" (x replaced with the number of buses)

When you place ps3sixaxis_en.exe into windows/system32, you will be able to immediately run the file without specifying dir's. The computer should not even think twice. However, my old (really shit) PC couldn't execute ps3sixaxis_en.exe directly from cmd prmpt . I'm thinking it didn't work because it was XP SP1. However, I do not have that problem now. No, Sorry :(. The ps3 remote is strictly restricted to work ONLY for the PS3. If you have linux, you are in luck (http://www.pabr.org/sixlinux/sixlinux.en.html), it will work. However, if you are running windows, your bluetooth won't communicate with the controller. One time, I don't know how, but I was able to communicate with the controller, but I couldn't access it (On windows).
This shows how the bluetooth will function:
If you put your ps3 on standby, then you press the ps button, the bluetooth signals meet and match and communicate with each other and the ps switches on. If you first switch on your ps, your controller will first look for a special bluetooth ps3 signal. Then it will bond with the ps.
Any other signal will be rejected by the controller.

I guess you found a solution. Are you using Dolphin?? And which sixaxis driver are you using?
To anyone who knows the answer or is a Grand Theft Auto fan
How do i get the controls on my sixaxis (on gta san andreas) to match the same controls as the GTA SA ps2 version??? I mean...its just so damn wierd when you want to fly a hydra, you have to use your keyboard to make the nozzles point forward. I know that I can spend an afternoon half configuring the controller, but there is just too many controls and too few buttons (on the sixaxis).

I think i have solved it for us vista owners, what you have to do is install the patch, then don't run the exe file to bring up the dos prompt, instead right click it and properties, click compatibility tab and run it in XP mode. Simple. \o/

If anyone sees this, I need help uninstalling and reinstalling the windows drivers that automatically install when I plug in my dualshock 3.
I get the problem where i check Game Controllers > Playstation(R)3 Controller > Properties and it says "Your game controller is not connected properly. Please verify that it is plugged into your computer."
I finally got all the other steps working, including getting the ps3sixaxis_en.exe to recognize the controller using Wojjie's steps on page 13 of this thread, just this one problem is still stopping me.
If anyone knows how to reinstall the first USB Drivers for the PS3 that install when you first plug in the controller.
I will probably make a new topic for this soon, if no one responds.

To EVERYONE!!!
If you have problems with the controller's buttons, get X-Padder. It will assign keyboard keys to your sixaxis. Eg. If i assign th "X" on my controller to the "x" on my keyboard, then go to notepad and press "X" on my sixaxis, the text that will be displayed is an "X".
(I know, many X'es)
Get it here. Its easy to use and is better than pinnacle game profiler. Why??? Because its free!
ALL YOUR GAMES WILL WORK! But you need to create seperate profiles for seperate games.
Get it here

Read FULLY Before you try. And try at your own risk. This is to uninstall the windows driver and not lib-usb or the japanese driver
1.Go to divice manager (XP-Right-Click on my computer form the start menu, click properties, then click on the hardware tab.)
2.Make sure your sixaxis/dualshock is plugged in.
3.Find your sixaxis/dualshock form the tree view. Its probably in HID divices
4.Right-Click and choose uninstall
then your controller will not be recognised, but will be found. Once again, follow steps 1 and 2. This time, there shoulb be a usb drive with an unknown device. This is probably your sixaxis/dualshock.
1.Right-click on this port and click uninstall.
2.Unplug your sixaxis.
This should do the trick

Thought i'd write a very quick guide to getting this to work:
1) Download Winrar from here (http://www.rarsoft.com/rar/wrar371.exe).
2) Download Ps3 driver files here (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=13008&d=1165434765).
3) Once Winrar is installed, navigate to the folder where you downloaded the PS3 files.
4) Right click the downloaded file and choose "Extract to 11679_Sixaxis_PS3_Win32_Driver_For_PC"
5) Copy the folder to your C: drive.
6) Open up a "Run" box by pressing the Windows key and the R key. Type "cmd" without the "" in here and press enter.
7) Type in here " cd C:\11679_Sixaxis_PS3_Win32_Driver_For_PC" once again without the ""
8) Plug in your controller and then type "ps3sixaxis_en"
9) If you get a result something like this:
found 7 busses
Dev# 0 : 8086 - 2830
Dev# 3 : 054C - 0268
found PLAYSTATION(R)3
InterfaceNumber = 0
initiated USB mode
Dev# 8 : 0A5C - 4500
Dev# 9 : 413C - 8126
Dev# 10 : 0A5C - 4502
Dev# 11 : 0A5C - 4503
Dev# 1 : 8086 - 2831
Dev# 2 : 8086 - 2832
Dev# 4 : 8086 - 2835
Dev# 5 : 8086 - 2836
Dev# 6 : 05A9 - 2640
Dev# 7 : 8086 - 283A
10) If you got a similar result to the above then simply press the PS button on your controller and you're good to go.
11) If however you did not, navigate to the PS3 drivers folder and install the libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe file and proceed from step 8.
Note: If your controller works but is not supported in certain games e.g. Crysis, use Xpadder to map the PS3 controller buttons to key strokes/mouse movements. I use Xpadder for all games that don't natively work with the PS3 controller and will be glad to give any help setting it up, just PM me ;)

Has anyone got the drivers working on Vista Business 64bit? I've detailed my status on the following thread; http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?p=69891#69891. SIXAXIS libusb-win64 has been released but the issue-I think-- isn't with SIXAXIS libusb-win64 it's with ps3sixaxis_en, which simply crashes as soon as I run it, you can find more info on the thread I linked to. Secondly this thread is running just above/below 50 pages, and with the vast majority of people complaining that the drivers aren't, must imply that the quality of the implementation must be questioned.
I seriously hope the author would release something shortly, I'm pretty sure if we all email him, he'll release a fix. BTW obtaining the email is pretty simple, it's spitted out when you run the program!

Ahhh, finally!
I managed to get the PS3 controller working. It was a bit tricky, but this is what I did:
I originally installed a different version of libusb than the suggested one: 0.1.10.1
Each time I would uninstall and reinstall, it would keep the newer drivers. So what I ended up doing is:
1. uninstalling libusb
2. manually deleting the following files:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\libusb0.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\libusb0.sys
3. installing libusb 0.1.10.1 from here.
4. let the test application run after installation, and make sure the DLL and Driver Version is 0.1.10.1
5. Plug in your PS3 controller
6. Run the ps3sixaxis_en.exe program
7. Press the PS3 button on the controller.
8. Repeat step 6-7 till the ps3sixaxis_en.exe says "found PLAYSTATION(R)3 SIXAXIS controller", at which point the controller should work in Control Panel -> Game Controllers -> PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller -> Test
Hope this helps those that are banging their heads like I was!
I've been on it all afternoon, but this is what made it work for me in the end.

All buttons on all controllers are actually numbers in windows. Go to your control panel > game controllers
Click on the properties or test button and click the buttons on the controller to see what number lights up in the test as you press.
You may have to write them down to remember which button is what number. Then, as long as the game you're trying to use allows you to assign custom controls, you can organize the buttons the way you want them.
Still doesnt work on Vista 64x
Windows vista is very problematic. You're going to find a lot of things that work flawlessly in winXP won't work in windows Vista.
Because there aren't any vista drivers for it. Same thing with 32bit verses 64bit.
They've started making 64bit compatability but it isn't completely here yet.

hmm weird.. k here's how i got it working, really different and worked when nothing else that anyone posted did.
1. i installed the thing, then plugged in the controller,
2. moved ps3sixaxis_en.exe into the system32 folder
3. i went run cmd then just entered ps3sixaxis_en and then in that dos window it randomly said a bunch of stuff that i don't understand,
4. i tried to press the playstation button and nothing happened
5. then i tried steps 3 and 4 a few more times again
6. i was about to post here about how it still wasn't working but randomly(maybe it needed to sit there for a bit) all the controller port lights flashed(not just 1 of the ports) and so then i went back to test to see if it works and then it WAS working! now i can play mgs1 with ps3 controler on pc! doesn't need to be an emulator for it to work and must be using usb cable.
But there's still a problem with it, the Analog sticks don't really work right, i try to configure the move buttons to pushing the left analog stick in the way that it should to move in teh direction that i'm configuring it to but once that happens the analog doesn't seem to work properly. anyone know if there is a way to get that part to work? other than that this all works great. i hope it stays that way for when my comp reboots.

Good evening everyone,
I was having the same issue, detected, but not usable.
After scouring a few forums, I found a solution that works, and should be just fine.
Gamesake - SIXAXIS Setup.7z - 0.27MB (http://www.zshare.net/download/160222624b1a6a76/)
This driver set still requires LibUSB32, so install the latest version via Sourceforge, then install this. Simply click Load Driver. This has been tested via the Control Panel (12 buttons, X/Y Axis, Z Axis, Z Rot. and POH [D-Pad]) and ZSNES.
For you paraniod people like me, this was scanned via Zone Alarm Security Suite, latest version, using the Kapersky Engine, and was revealed to be clean.
So, with that, I take my leave, and wish you all happy gaming.

Ive done the same thing but unfortunately my Z axis registers as left and right and my z rot is up and down. Are you having the same issue?

I have some problems running the ps3sixaxis_en.exe file.
tried running it from where I put the rest of the files and putting it in system32 and running it through cmd, same problem: "APPCRASH"

downloaded the sixaxis setup program as well, still no luck.
poops. there must be something I've missed..
EDIT: reinstalled everything and google->downloaded the files
now the test lib usb program can't seem to find anything and the
ps3sixaxis_en doesn't crash but it can't seem to find the controller it only states: "Found 7 busses"
although what is posted/quoted on page 45 here by Red_skull was some useful info on the way.
EDIT2: ok update #2:
been roaming this thread like crazy all day, deleted and reinstalled the .10 and .12 drivers and repeat several times, had my laptop crash, blue screens, accidently turned on my ps3 (lol), rebooted laptop in safe mode reinstalled the drivers and finally, both the testlibusb program and the ps3sixaxis_en detect my sixaxis controller!
(does anyone else sense a big Harry BUTler? yes it's coming)
BUT! when go into the Gaming controller in the control panel it says my controller isnt installed correctly and wont let me access that screen, and the controller is still flashing all four leds.
at the bottom of TestLibUsb where it has stated that it has detected the sixaxis it also says:
Unable to fetch serial number string
Couldn't retrieve descriptors
don't know if this is the problem though.
ps. I think the crash I was mentioning might've been cause the ps3sixaxis_en wasnt in the same folder as the other two files at that time.

Or, you can look at the extention. It's 7Zip, download it and extract and setup. It's not that hard.

No, however, I would simply use a program to re-map the axis. I'm not sure as to what program to use, but I'm sure you can find it in the vBJirc or elseware in the forums.

The Sony PS3 SIXAXIS controller can be used on a Windows PC but Windows XP and upwards would be best. It works as USB HID device under Windows.
Here's the instructions to make it work:
1. Download and install the filter driver (libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1.exe). (attached zip)
2. Unpack ps3sixaxis_en.exe
3. Plug the SIXAXIS into your PC.
4. Run ps3sixaxis_en.exe once. A command prompt window will appear for a few seconds.
5. When the window closes, press and hold the PS button on the Sixaxis controller for at least 2-3 seconds.
If you want to see if the controller is being detected:
1. Go to Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Game Controllers.
2. Select the Playstation 3 controller and choose Properties. A dialog window will appear.
3. Move both the analog sticks and press the buttons. The cursor and bars will move in the Axis section and the numbers in the Buttons area will light up.
4. If output is displayed, the controller is properly detected and working fine.

Ok to anyone still having problems figuring out the driver. Once you plug in the controller to get it to "Sync" to your PC first run the en dos program, once it closes press the PS button. Now when you go to control panel and go to printers, other devices it will work fine. Also, games dont automatically detect the controller you have to reconfigure controls if a game does not support a joystick then the controller joysticks can not and will not work. Now a question of my own does the driver support multiple controllers?

Anyone get this to work on XP 64? I've tried the notes in OP, and the PC recognizes the 6axis, but when I got to game controller control panel and hit the buttons, nothing happens, and I did hold down PS button for at least 10 seconds.
Any ideas?

anybody know why it crashed my USB pen? keeps sayin there isnt a Driver, but there is and that the device isnt recognized, its not the port(s), my other pens work fine, also the ps3 usb works fine
also, when i try to do an update or a rollback, it says there isnt anything better than what i currently have, or that there isnt a driver previously saved to rollback to :-/

Hmmm? I've downloaded the RAR archive and it seems perfectly fine actually, no file corruption seen here. If the problem persists though, prehaps I'll add a zip file download to the first post.

Well, after a few hours of searching, I've come to the fact that no one has managed to get this working under 64bit Vista, myself included.
Everyone always wants to post the link to this thread on this site, and give the run around, so, since this seems to be the root page for getting this to work, has anyone seen *any* update on a version, or a workaround, for 64bit systems?
I know this is a homebrew app, and I'm beyond appreciative that someone out there spent their own time to get this working, but there seems to be a lot of people wanting, with no real answers around.
So, *any* word on this?

I think we're going to have to wait until the next update for 64bit to work. It works fine in 64bit linux AND all the buttons work with with FULL analog support! (In the Linux drivers) I have no idea why the Windows version is slow off the boat or whatever the expression is.
