well then, not to be rude.. but how about instead of trying to talk tough to me over the internet, how about you tell me what motherboard i have? i open the umd door, and i checked the top right and left of the motherboard, and there are no numbers there :) so how about you help out instead of trying to pick a fight?
all i did was ask for a yes it works or no it doesnt, and when u are running a 56k connection downloading 2 files is like a 600lb man trying to run a triathalon so i just asked for a little bit of help b4 i left my computer on for 2 weeks downloading something that wouldnt work in the fist place. so again all that i just said up there wasnt to be rude, but you came at me with an additude without knowing the situation on my end, so if you can tell me what kind of motherboard doesnt have any visible markings on it and then tell me of a sure-fire way that i can downgrade it with 0% risk of bricking, please let me know
Well sorry if I was a little rude but this isn't the PSP Help forum its the PSP News forum. If you had posted there then I wouldn't have had any problem in helping you. I'm getting a little fed up of people posting pointless questions here that have been answered a million times already.
As you seem a polite enough person and I appreciate that here is some information to help you.
so you definitely don't see anything like this?
http://www.askdavetaylor.com/0-blog-pics/sony-psp-pcb-id.png
Or like this guide says?
http://psp.about.com/od/homebrew/ig/TA-082-Motherboard-Tutorial/TA-082-code-photo.htm
Well you can use the rough and ready guide to identify your firmware by your box code:
http://forums.qj.net/f-guides-general-psp-42/t-determining-psp-firmware-using-box-codes-jan-3-2007-28718.html
By determining what it initially came with you can get a rough idea of what motherboard it should be.
At this point, it can be said with confidence that:
* F and below - is definitely not a TA-082.
* G and H - is probably not a TA-082.
* I - is far too likely to be a TA-082; core or value pack are equally likely.
* J and above - The likelihood of a TA-082 increases but is not universal.
If you'd like to be more definite about it you can download a little app that will tell you if you have a TA082 motherboard or not from either Dark AleX or 0okm (it might also be included in the easy downgraders that have been released too).
Here's the manual way to downgrade from 2.8 to 2.71 for all motherboards.
http://0okm.blogspot.com/2007/01/fw280-downdate-to-fw271-for-ta-079086_02.html
Make sure you have all the correct files and read the guides before attempting.

No worries, its at the bottom of my above post it will downgrade 2.80 to 2.71 for all TA079 - TA086 motherboards. From there you can install either HEND for 2.71 and use dark alex's 2.71 to 1.5 downgrader if you have a TA082 or his generic 2.71 to 1.5 downgrader if not, both at www.dark-alex.org
Make sure you read all the readme's and have all the files you need before trying this.
Good luck (Sorry I'm off to sleep now).

I finally got around to messing with emulators and I have to say so far gpSP is the best of the bunch I've tried. The ui is very intuitive especially in regards to the save/load states which I've been using the heck out of with the Rayman titles(although I wish there was a faster way to return to the game without scrolling down but it's not that bad since it only takes a second).
One addition I wouldn't mind seeing would be a way to save screenshots. Checking the documentation I didn't see that mentioned anywhere. It looks like you basically have that down since when you bring up the menu you get a (reduced) shot of what was on the screen at the time. The ability to write it out to memory stick would be nice though.
Other than that I don't really have any ideas for improvement. Keep up the good work!
Oh also I am running it on 3.03 OE-B with no problems.

i have encountered the same issue with both the jap rom and us... i found an addition to gpsp's game_config.txt on a jap website and tried tweaking it to the us version... still no luck. i'm not a dev, so i have no chance of fixing this problem.
if you can sit in one place for a long time (unlike me) they run fine on the PC emulators...

Did Exophase ever announce if he is working on a 1.0 of his emulator. Havn't heard a WIP or anything in a while. Well iether case its definently the greatest GBA emulator for the PSP, great work Exophase. Even though you heard me say that before =P

A while ago he said that he was happy with this iteration of it and was going to see about helping people get it onto other systems. In that process there will probably emerge some fixes, but afaik there is no solid plans for a 1.0 release. Maybe he'll come and give a word on this.

I love this emulator and would like to see it getting improved by the man himself. Don't want to use the crappy mod.
Please Exophase, you may take your time for it but don't stop working on this wonderful project. :o

Just because the mod might 'fix' certain things, unless it actually fixes something that interferes with your gameplay (which i doubt it will seeing as most of the kai releases havn't really fixed anything). There will still be no reason to use it.

Well, i must say that Exophase emulator is not just the best gba emu for the psp but one of the best written emus for the whole psp :)
NJs CPS2 and Sonys PSX emus are the only others that can compare with gpSP high quality emulation!

I have no idea why pressing triangle turns off your PSP... i don't think that's supposed to happen.... when I press triangle in gpSP it pauses the game and brings up a whole menu with various options.

Are you sure FF6 works? And if so what settings and version did you use? It will start up and play through the opening, but at the first battle you get a black screen with the music playing but you can't do or see anything. Also, when you're walking around in the town the graphics can get kind of weird.

The sound stutter can be avoided by not using savestates or if its already stuttering, save the game by normal means, restart the game and load manually.

Hey guys, i'm pretty new at this homebrew stuff but i have 3.3 OE-A and i was wondering if this would work and how i would get it to run on there. Thanks
blackrave
May 9th, 2007, 23:49
If you have 3.30 OE-A, almost 100% of all homebrew will work, this included. Download the version without 150 in its name (the 1.00 version) and put it in ms0:/PSP/GAME150 when in USB mode. If the folder isn't there, create (although in that case I recommend formatting the memory stick (take backup of everything useful)).
If there's anything else you need help with, don't fear asking. As a side note, I'd recommend updating to 3.40 OE-A or at least 3.30 OE-A' to fix a bug.

I have fw1.5 and I put the two files in the GAME folder. When I load the emu all of a sudden I get this message saying that I got an unofficial version and some stuff about BIOs and the right size file. Anyone else get this problem? I downloaded the official version right off this forum... Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Actually I read the message wrong. Ignore the message above.
I get this message: "Sorry, but gpSP requires a Gameboy Advance BIOS image to run correctly. Make sure to get an authentic one (search the web, beg other people if you want, but don't hold me accountable if you get hated or banned for it), it'll be exactly 16384 bytes large and should ahve the following md5sum value: a860e8c0b6d573d191e4ec7db1b1e4f6 Other BIOS files might work either partially completely, I really don't know. When you do get it name it gba_bios.bin and put in the same directory as this EBOOT. Good luck. Press any button to exit."
Does anyone know what a Gameboy Advance BIOS image is? If so, where can I get this file? Please don't get mad at me or call me a noob. I took time to write this post. All I want is help. Thanks in advance.
MOST RECENT EDIT: My bad guys...I am a noob. Lol I didn't read the old posts. I fixed my problem. Sorry For all these edits...

Ok i def understand where exo is coming from with him not liking that these kai versions of his emulator came out. He kinda has a reason to be angry. Guy is tweaking his stuff but as he stated when he made this dang emulator he would prefer you not tweak it or anthing but you can. Exo has even stated this in another forum. Ok the guy making the kai versions does his thing and now exo is feeling a little heat and now getting a little angry that some of his credit is gone cuz guy is putting out emulator off his stuff. My thing is, Exo has now made this bgi densention in the psp community and got people split down the line. Instead of going and flaming into some of the forums about he not likeing that the guy is making versions and that he would like for him to stop, he should keep all that on the downlow and not tell everyone. He should find the guy within the community and confront him on it. I have a serious problem when a guy goes out and slowly gets people to choice sides in a fake battle just because he didn't want to go confront him himself. The jap guy making the kai versions did nothing wrong at all. If exo would somehow be able to communicate to the man these things would go well. If the kai making guy can tweak exo's emulator so then they should be able to work together. This always seems to happen in the program making business. Other a off note. Um Fire Emblem seems to crash on v .9 but runs ok in v.8. thats kinda weird. anyone else got that? -There is gotta be a better way for these 2 guys to confrot without every person in the psp community haivng to know all about this. Descention=never good

I have the correct bios and Minish Cap works fine including the roll. If you take a look at the change log for gpSP 0.9 you will notice where Exophase mentions Minish Cap fixes.
# Completely redid memory handlers, accurately emulates open and

Rayman, MMBN 1 (last dungeon), probably others.

Cool, I just tried playing Sabrewulf yesterday only to find that it didn't work, but according to the readme it should work now.

This is from the readme
-- Release log --
v0.91 (minor cleanup release)
NOTE: I don't usually do minor releases but I rewrote a ton of
things in gpSP 0.9, much of it during the last few days, and although
I spent a lot of time debugging a few bugs inevitably crept in.
# Fixed some issues in the new memory handlers that crept up, hopefully
should fix the problems between 0.8 and 0.9.
# Fixed a bug introduced in 0.9 that could cause crashes when selecting
things in the menu (I hope, at least).
# Fixed a bug with a certain invalid opcode causing a jump to be scanned
when there isn't one (fixes Sabre Wulf).
# Removed 2048 option for audio buffer.
That sounds a lot like something Exophase would write.

Yeah I guess this is the Kai version, I just realized the readme I quoted was last modified in April. But I don't think Exophase ever released a version 0.9.1, did he? If not, I wonder how Takka had access to it, maybe he and Exophase patched things up and Exophase sent him the updated source? Of course I'm just speculating at this point.
Also, it doesn't look like there's any source code included with this test version, so I'm not sure if this is a violation of the GPL or something. I think I'll wait for more information before using this.

July 24th, 2007, 00:40
The reason why it has the newer readme is because he took it from the one included with the GP2X version. That would also explain why the changes there don't actually match up with the release.
There's no source for this anywhere on that wiki, so yes, he's clearly violating the GPL.

So what you're saying is that it runs exactly the same as it does in 0.9? Okay. I already fixed that music bug on MY end, of course. Not that any of us have any clue what Takka is doing since he's not releasing source anyway, making these releases illegal...

Golden Sun doesn't work for me on the official version either, whenever I talk to the guy at the beginning thats trying to pull the chest with his stuff in it the game sort of crashes, like its still running but the graphics become all glitchy and the game doesn't respond to input (sort of like what happens at the title screen for Sabrewulf). I'm using the US version of the game with the clean BIOS dump.

Edit: Actually, I remember that I had the same issue. You have to replay the part a couple times as sometimes it works fine. Took me about seven tries.

I for one will never use these unoffical builds no matter what.
1) I will only use official builds of emulators.
2) I fully support Exophase and his work on his Gpsp. I'm behind him 100% and can't wait for his next release!
3) I never liked Takka's builds for reasons adding controversy and making Exophase dislike the PSP scene a little bit (maybe alot, with him doing the gp2x version only right now).
4) This new version you are posting pspoff is actually against the license of Gpsp. Gpsp is under the GPL license and requires the developer of the program to toss out source code with each release. Takka's newest builds are not doing that whatsoever, there's no cource code in any of Takka's newest builds. (I hope in the future Exophase that you make your great program closed source so that people like Takka don't **** around with your great work!)
So I reiterate that I'm a firm Exophase supporter and will never ever support Takkas work because I frankly don't like them nor do they produce good updates worth exploding about over the net.
I'm glad wraggster hasn't found this out yet, Takka's builds of Gpsp are a waste of space.
Note: This is my opinion alright, don't take any of it personal. Also, I'm glad to see you pop up once in a while Exophase. We missed ya :p !

someone can help me i wanna run a vbapsp emulator in my psp but i think i can't do it because i have the update 3.52
Some bad news:
There is currently no way to run homebrew of any kind on a PSP running firmware 3.52. There is no way to downgrade that firmware to make it homebrew-friendly yet.
All you can do is not update any further if new updates are released, wait, hope and keep your eye out on respected homebrew sites like this one for a 3.52 downgrader.
There is no real way of knowing how long it may be till one comes out.

thanks alot for the advice dude and the information you've some roms for my firmware 3.52 i'm talking about psp roms
What kind of question is that to ask here?
Anyway, Fanjita said on his team's forums that they won't be working on a 3.52 downgrader. That's because everytime they release a downgrader, SONY learns from their work and can implement security patches in the next firmware. So why waste their knowledge on the 3.52 when it's practically the same as 3.50? They should - and will - rather wait for at least 3.60 to come out, and see what they can do about that (which means, I'd say that you can upgrade to 3.60 when that comes out and enjoy its new features while waiting for a downgrader. I myself stayed at 2.01 for two months before a 2.50/2.60 downgrader came, and I upgraded to that then).
It's a shame many people upgrade their PSP the second they get it, then search around on the net to find out how to run homebrew. I hope SONY will give us homebrew support soon (and I want full, with kernel access  ).

Why would you need a GBA emulator for the DS when you can just use a Slot 2 card to play all of the GBA games using the built in hardware of the DS?
Some of the Slot 2 cards also have Real Time saving for the GBA too.

It's fine, we all begin somewhere. First off, you need 1.5, a custom firmware, or any means to run the software. Secondly, you'll need a large enough memory stick to store you ROMs (that should be legally obtained). PM me if you need assistance.

ok i tried it and its giving this error that i cant load it. i forgot the error code i'll post next time. but what about the roms? where should i put it?
is there any settings that i should set my psp? i know some of the homebrews works on kernel 1.5 and some do work on the kernel my firmware is which is 3.52 i tried this vote on this home brew and they both give me the errors.
so i might have been doing something wrong.
is there someone that can upload their working files and the settings they have? thanks.

If it's the official Sony 3.52, you're oficially screwed and cannot run homebrew.
Versions up to 3.50 can be downgraded to 1.50 (which can run homebrew), and 1.50 can then be updated to one of the 3.XX custom (unnoficcially unlocked) firmwares. That's what "runs in 3.52 kernel" means (in a simplified way).
End of story, you have to wait until someone finds out a way to run unsigned programs in the official 3.52 firmware (if that's ever going to happen), *OR* (more easily) find someone with a homebrew-able PSP and have them do the Pandora Battery thing (downgrade to 1.50) for you (search these forums, maxcolsole and google). You can also do the pandora thing without having a homebrewable PSP if you buy the already-modded "TOOL" battery from Datel.

I wish exophase would update this emulator already. I bet he got many optimizations and I'd love to see it updated to v3.50 Kernel for use with 8GB MemoryStick's. This may be needed for upcoming CFW's anyway since v1.50 subset isn't needed any longer.
This is the only emulator I've ever used seriously on my PSP. :(

totally wrong 1.50 subset is the only possible way of running emulators unless u use hen which is not so compatible
And 1.50 subset dont read 8 gig cards no chance happenin on 8 gig cards
only way hombrew can play on 8gig cards are using half of it which is filling the first 4gig with hombrews coz 1.5 only reads 4 gigs max
the problem is if ur cards maxed out then u add a hombrew after u max out the 4 gigs it would crash
So you wud have to empty the card add homebrew again to fill the 4gig cap
Just go wit a 4 gig its more than enuff

I know 1.50 can only read up to 4 GB. What I wrote is not totally wrong as CFW's WITHOUT 1.50 subset are just around the corner (at least for PSP Slim & Light which basically is not able to run 1.50). Team C+D found a way to sign their own IPL meaning 1.50 subset won't be nessecary in future CFW. So I see no use to stick with 1.50 Kernel calls any longer at all.
I also know 4 GB is enough space. But I only got a 8GB stick and want to store all my stuff on this single stick.

Currently there is no way to run any form of homebrew on the slim PSPs.
All you can do is not upgrade if any new firmwares come out, wait and hope that a way of writing to the slim PSP's internal flash memory is found.

I understand your point that c+d made a hack to write their custom ipl
But do you know that homebrews only run on 1.50 subset?
and 1.5 cant run on 8 gig cards u get the point?
And u cant write out that psplite cant run 1.50

I CAN write that as I'm absolutely right.
v1.50 IPL is kind of blocked by hardware on PSP Slim & Light. The only way it would be able to run v1.50 is by the use of an emulator/loader.
But I see no point in this at all. v1.50 is NOT needed for homebrew to run. And it is NOT needed for better homebrew.
v2.00 homebrew sucked because it was only able to run in User-Mode.
Developers should just wake up and update their programs to higher firmware kernel. This way nobody would need v1.50 any longer at all.
Everything I predicted came true.
We are proud to present the first custom firmware for the PSP Slim, and the first custom firmware
that runs using a 3.XX IPL (3.60)
3.60 M33 for PSP Slim has all the features of 3.52 M33, except the 1.50 kernel support, as
that kernel doesn't work properly on psp slim (hardware problems, screen problems).
3.60 M33 will load homebrew from GAME, GAME150 and GAME360 directories, but all will be executed
with 3.60 kernel.
This mean that some homebrews done specifically for the 1.50 kernel cannot work on 3.60 M33.
However, the adaptation of code to 2.XX+ kernels is not difficult, and homebrew developers can
port their aplications to work in these firmwares.
Included with the release is the M33 sdk for programmers.

I tried the unofficial releases and they crash often, sometimes the game / save list dissapears and at one point it just switched my Psp Slim of completely with a popping sound.
They do seem to make use of the extra RAM though, Kingdom hearts now loads in zipped format.
I look forward to when ever you are able to release an official version.

Part of the reason why I wanted to play gpSP on the slim is because the screen is a much better quality than the phat and all games are more enjoyable.

Al you have to do is download the 1.50 version of gpsp and configure it like normal (Bios, games, blablabla)
Then download the eloader 1.00 for PSP Slim and run gpsp through that. Absolutely simple :)
As for normal installing...humzano, what PSP/firmware do you have?

It's most evident in the second stage of the first (red) GP. Your dot will hit invisible blocks.
I'm not sure if it's gPSP or the GBA BIOS I have. I've heard there are 2 dumps of the BIOS. May be I got the wrong one?
If anyone could try that game and check that out, I'd appreciate it.

The problem is that sprites underneath the layer in mode 4 are being obscured (the layer is being rendered as "base" instead of "transparent"). The mode 3-5 support has always been pretty lacking but at least that's fixed now. If I ever release again it'll be fixed..
