best combination
is
usbacc.prx from Firmware 2.71
and
usbgps.prx from Firmware 3.03
Usually I get a fix within 2 minutes or less.
Yesterday it fixed within 33seconds.

Guys I still cant get it to work, it wont get past the loading usb accessory, it just hangs.
In the MapThis0497_beta there is a system directory.
Where does this go on the PSP ?
Also where are the two .prx files placed ?
EDIT:
OK, I got it working, why does the beta not have any documentation ?
The reason for the problems was the directory structure was wrong and with no
documentation it was like stabbing in the dark.

Why not 3.30 or even 3.40 prx file ?

but that doesn't answer the question, its just your opinion. i personally think the whole mix and match a prx with this one thing is bullshit... but perhaps, since there are new innovations and talks of the US release of the GPS then maybe the 3.40 prxs are significantly better... you see what i'm getting at? if you just get stuck thinking your configuration, which is old in terms of psp firmware, is the best then how will you test to see if newer is better? in my experience it is. anyway- has anyone decrypted the 3.40 usb prxs and care to share how they did so?

I'd have to agree with taspankya on the prx-sensitivity issue. It's more or less agreed upon that 2.7x usbgps.prx had some bugs and performance issues (displaying gps coordinates in some part of the world and saving session data for later faster aquisition). Those issues were addressed in earlier 3.xx fw releases( probably arround 3.03 everything was patched)
At this point, it would be hard to do anything to boost the gps performance w/o actually changing the HW, imho...
There is nothing wrong with trying to keep up with most recent versions..but the performance gains are likely to be coincidental and/or subjective..
(most of GPS-290 owners would agree that there are "good" and "bad" days ;-)

Yes but i don't get the thing that you'll have to use 2.71 USB prx and version x GPS.prx
Why the old 2.71 prx for usb acquiring ?

what we need now is 3.40 prxs... however there is not a decrypter for it. its been said that 3.30 decrpter works, however it gets stuck at idcheck.prx and never gets to the usb ones. its also said that you can alter the 3.30 decrypter main code to continue after idcheck.prx - but i dont know how... any one know about this so that i can get the 3.40 prxs maybe they are better... or the same? any insight?
you dont need decrypted prx's you need to dump with encryption but with out sig-check...3.40 prx's should most likely only work on 3.40 OE FYI. im about to try it

ok so on the psardumper330 i just pressed "O" instead of "X" on my 3.40 data.psar and it worked. i got the usbacc and usbgps ... i tested and they work just as well as older setups... 60 seconds or so i got a fix. but then on my second test it took about a minute and a half to get a fix... its all dependent on so many variables for fix time. i dont think prxs will help improve anymore... gps fix time is only relative to your location, clear skys, and where at that point in time the satellites are above you.

I have to pretty much agree. I've spent a couple days testing various prx files. Sometimes I can get a lock in 30secs then after a quick reboot nothing for 5 mins or even not at all with the same set up.
Until someone can come up with some solid evidence that certain .prx's work better and under whatever firmware its all just muddling around in the dark.

You rule. Thank you so much! I was trying to figure out why USB wasn't working right after I downgraded. I noticed Windows just seen "Mass Storage Device" and not "PSP Type A".

Great program deniska, nice work.
I have a suggestion for the later release. That is if it’s possible. I think it would be great if when you start MapThis in PSP and it will automatically start to looking for satellite and start to lock on to them, but don’t link the coordinates to the map until we turn on the GPS mode, and keep the satellite locked in the background when we switch back to Mapview mode, so that when we switch back to GPS mode we can get a instant lock on our location, so we don’t have to wait for it to get a lock on every time we switch to GPS mode. I think everyone will be very happy to see the feature.:) So do your best and keep up the great work.. Thanks for all the hard work you have done.

As far as I understand, that is what every GPS will do.
As soon as you power on the GPS it will just start looking for satelltes and lock position.
Switching to GPS mode is just like connecting the program with the GPS.
Switching to map mode is just like disconnecting the GPS from the program.
The GPS is still doing its own thing in the background whether it is in map mode or GPS mode, until power to the GPS is switched off.

I know every GPS unit on the market has that automatic looking for and lock on to the satellite once it’s powered on. But I’m talking about the GPS-290 for the PSP and current MapThis 0.498 doesn’t have this function yet! If you have used it, then you will know every time you switch from GPS mode to MapView mode and back to GPS mode it will lose your location and have to start looking for satellite and get a lock on all over again. I was suggesting that when ever we switch from GPS mode back to MapView Mode it will still tracking our location in the background. That way we don’t have to wait for the lock on to the satellite every time we switch back and forth from one mode to another. And when we just started the MapThis the program start in MapView mode, it would be great if it can start looking for satellite and locking on to then in the background in this mode so that when to switch to GPS mode it will take a lot less time to get a lock on on our location. Hopefully everyone can understand what I’m talking about, and like my suggestion.

There might be something wrong with your PSP290 because that is not how mine is working on my MapThis 0.499 . I keep the fix when changing from GPS mode to MAP mode and back. Even more, i start in map mode, wait the equivalent of time it takes to usualy fix (around a minute where i live), switch to GPS mode and tada my position is immediatly found.

I found out, that MapThis 0.499 is very buggy.
@deniska you said, it can help to load a small working map at startup.
This small map (only 84 tiles - only my village - approx. 1MB) loads up very fine.
But loading the bigger map is a Game of luck. Sometimes it works - sometimes not - sometimes MapThis crashes while scrolling.
So I'm waiting for MapThis 0.5 non beta ;)
But no big problem, because MapThis 0.498 is working fine ;)
Really great Work deniska
And allways remember - nobody is perfect ;)
EDIT:
GPS State OFF Problem was my fault, because mp3 plugin was enabled.

Ah, i tried so many combinations that i lost track of the firmware version they come from !
usbgps.prx: 29 276 bytes, dated 2007/01/18
usbacc.prx: 3 856 bytes, dated 2007/01/22
quite old ones, but somehow i found the time to first fix and time to refix the best with these.

Does mapthis work with pikey? Also, I have a request for mapthis. Could it be made so text entry is easier for address lookup? Right now as it is, it is a pain in the neck to enter in characters using a combination of the analog stick and the buttons.
Also another great feature that could be added is address lookup that works without entering in zip codes, but works by searching out the region that is being viewed. It sucks to have to enter in zip codes every time I search. Believe me, I search addresses a lot!
I use mapthis almost every day now for work in Colorado. Where I am working, the maps are very poor, but mapthis w/ google maps is working great, although it could be made better. It took me 8 weeks to finish this work I had last year, and this year I should be done in 4 weeks and I have mapthis to thank.
I am not using it with a gps receiver. I use it purely for the map viewing software. I am using Custom firmware 3.40 OE I believe.
I am looking forward to new releases!

June 12th, 2007, 15:38

I believe that the most recent betas have the "relaxed" search which does not require a zip...

The "Keyboard" with Analog Stick and Buttons is much more faster than the original PSP "Keyboard"
All you need is some excercise
mattnin
June 12th, 2007, 21:37
oh wow, I must have been using an older version because the one I have now works without the zip code! Cool!
Also, could it be made in the program to do a search without street address too? And also with partial names? For instance, lets say I have an address like, 0054 Lionshead Cir 81457
Could it be made so I could do a search just for 'lions' and it would just take me to any location on lionshead cir? Or at least give me a listing of streets nearby that have 'lions' in there? Even if the street was called littlelions dr or Lionshead DR and not Cir.
A search with partial names would be awesome
@Mystheryman
I don't know why but I am having problems with entering in characters. I am not saying the 'PSP Keyboard' is an easier either. I use address lookup ALOT. Today, for instance in Vail Colorado, I must have used address lookup about 50 times.
That is why I am interested in pikey w/ mapthis so I can enter in addresses quicker and easier, or maybe an alternate way of entering characters.
I don't have any other suggestions on how to enter in characters, just that it does get laboring at times.

Hello deniska, before anything I want darte thanks for your wonderful application. I am Spanish and not to be spoken English, this is translated by Babelfish.
That would be interesting that you added a utility to him to your application:
- opening of maps according to scale of the collection of maps. It is to say that I have two maps, one for example is all Spain and another Madrid. I am leading with my car and the program has open the map of Spain (scale greater than the one of Madrid) and when I approach Madrid the program me would have to open the one of Madrid (scale smaller than the map of Spain).
I believe that this utility would be very useful for a future.
Thank you very much.

No other commercail navigation software can/would do that. Doing things automatically can have undesirable results.
You have to open one map at a time.

using 3.40oe - 4gb sandisk gaming

I have the same problem, but it doesn't seem to happen when the GPS Receiver is connected.
I have another question though:
Next month I will go to Japan and as we will be using the JR two week ticket which allows you to use almost any train you want to I would greatly appreciate a map of all Japan (or at least one divided into like four smaller maps). Unfortunately these maps would all take about a day to download and fill up 1.3GB of disk space (I actually tested it ^^). Is there any way to uncheck the 1x zoom level? I could easily do with 2x and 1x just takes an enormous amount of space.
I already tried deleting the 1x-folder's contens and regenerating the gpsfs files, but that doesn't work (the program wouldn't start generating the files).

It probably means that your PSP device has not been detected. If you are using the usb port to connect it to the psp (like you would when using the official Sony device) and have a PSP with a TA-82 or 86 board you should google for "KeyCleaner 1.1".

well.....
I've read all these reports of easy fixes people do and get their gps working and i gotta say it makes me hurt.
I've tried everything. I'm running 3.90 m33-3 on a ta-82/86 mobo with 5.2 mapthis but i dont think mapthis is the problem. Im using the psp 290 gps unit and in mapthis and the psp-290 test it confirms its working. But for some reason, in the gps test program, i always get this
GPS state = 3 location: 0
which means 'm not locking on anything.
I'v tried idstorage fix which cleaned/patched my keys
I've tried keycleaner which fixed even more keys and asked if i wanted to unpatch a key 5. But it says if i unpatch it i'll brick my psp.
Iv tried using usbhostfs but it just says i've already used it and quits out.
Iv tried using different usbgps.prx and usbacc.prx files to no avail
but for some reason the wiki page say to put them in ms:0/kn folder which i dont have. I only have a kd.
But is'nt that irrelavant because mapthis 5.2 doesnt need them
please help

First, don't double post.
Have you tried using the PSP-290 on another PSP? If it fails to work there also, the GPS dongle itself may be broken. If it does work there, the problem most likely lies with your PSP.
In Map This!, does it say GPS STATE: ON? And is the GMT time it gives correct?
(Oh, and as always, just stand out in the open for a few minutes to see if it really doesn't work.)
