There's a lot of buzz surrounding Sony's PS Vita at the moment, following the platform holder's impressive handheld showing at both E3 in June and Gamescom earlier this month.
Yet even with a wealth of top software - alongside multimedia and social features aplenty - the UK and US markets won't be getting the system in stores until early next year.

Has the long wait put you off - or are you still raring to get your hands on the sexy combination of dual thumsticks, twin touchscreens and that giant OLED screen?

Although clearly conceptualised with Kinect in mind, this autumn's redesigned Xbox 360 dashboard update will improve the experience for regular controller users too, Microsoft has said.
That's according to Xbox Live's senior director Jose Pinero, who told CVG in a recent interview the new backend is a "happy medium" of motion sensor and controller functionality.

Asked if the new Dashboard will improve the Xbox experience for controller-only users, Pinero replied:

"Yes. Anecdotally, before I came here I was showing it to my wife and she was like, 'oh, that's a lot easier'. We can't make it too easy for people, so we made it easier for someone who's not a gamer or a tech enthusiast and then it'll be easier for the gamer too."

He added: "I think it's a pretty happy medium and that's been our goal since the launch of Kinect, to make sure we're creating great content like Star Wars, Sports and great family content, but also making sure we're not losing the Gears of War, Halo and Call of Duty fans that really built the Xbox brand.

"So making sure we've got great content for both audiences in a combined platform is a big challenge. I think the new dashboard is still super-fast to navigate around."

Microsoft's official philosophy for the new dash is "all the entertainment you want, with the people you care about, made easy." See it in action here.

Supernice.co.uk has revealed a fantastic way to transform any child’s (or, to be fair, adult’s) room into a level right out of Super Mario Bros.
The retailer is currently offering a range of officially licensed reusable wall stickers based on three Nintendo titles – Super Mario Bros, New Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong.
The product is made with Blik Re-Stik tech, meaning the decals can be moved and re-arranged at any time.
The sets cost £60 each and can be purchased here.

HP said that the tech giant would manufacture another batch of WebOS powered TouchPad tablets.
"Despite announcing an end to manufacturing WebOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand," announced HP PR man Mark Budgell on the HP Next Bench Blog.
The world's largest PC maker slashed the price of the TouchPad to £89 or $100 in markets worldwide following a shock withdrawal from WebOS hardware. The result was stampede of consumers keen to snap up a tablet for a fraction of the original asking price.
"I think it’s safe to say we were pleasantly surprised by the response," said Budgell.

With a masterful nail in the optical disc coffin, Microsoft has announced that its new operating system willnatively mount ISO disc images. On the slightly more enterprisesque side of the equation, VHD files will also be supported by Windows 8. Both new features will be smoothly integrated into Windows 8 Explorer's ribbon menu, and mounting an ISO or VHD is as simple as double clicking the file. This is obviously an important addition with Windows 8 being available on tablets — and in a year or two, it wouldn't be surprising if all software is made available as an ISO on a USB drive which can be read by tablet and PC alike.

The curators of a proposed Videogame History Museum in Sunnyvale, California, have successfully raised sufficient funds to get the project off the ground through crowdfunding website Kickstarter.

Joe Santulli, Sean Kelly and John Hardie launched their Kickstarter project last month, and sought to raise $30,000 by September 1. With two weeks to go the project had raised barely half of its target, but a flurry of interest meant the goal was reached with almost a week to spare. At the time of writing, the project has raised $35,490, with 27 hours left on the clock.

"When I woke up this morning and saw that we had met our goal, my eyes literally welled up with tears and a chill rolled down my spine," Santulli wrote on Kickstarter on behalf of the team. He was one of the organisers of the first Classic Gaming Expo in 1998, and has been involved ever since, also taking the collection to shows like E3 at his own expense.

"What drives us to do [the Classic Gaming Expo] each year is pure and simple passion," Santulli writes. "The Videogame History Museum is fuelled by that same passion. It's truly heartwarming to see that so many of you not only share that passion with us, but that you see it burning strongly enough in us that even in these tough economic times, you've pledged your hard-earned money to help launch the Videogame History Museum.

Santulli, Kelly and Hardie have, over the years, collected some 30,000 pieces of videogaming history. The funds raised so far will go towards a Silicon Valley base of operations, and a mobile exhibit that will see them continue to attend trade shows to raise awareness and, hopefully, enough funds for a public museum.

In other words, while this goal has been passed, much remains to be done. "Kickstarter is just the beginning," Santulli writes. "A project like The Computer History Museum takes in and spends tens of millions per year. We're many, many years away from being in the same league as they are, but something of that scale is our ultimate goal and it will cost a lot to get there."

Despite the target being reached, Santulli asks that those interested in showing their support continue to make pledges to offset the deductions that will be made by Kickstarter and payment handler Amazon. For more, follow the source link below.

GameSpot has signed a deal with OnLive to host streamed demos of games on its website, featuring the almost instant feature on game pages alongside review and other media content.
To mirror that side of the deal, OnLive's platform will feature GameSpot content such as reviews and interviews to aid customers in buying choices.
"For as long as video games have existed, consumers have sought out information that helps them make smart purchases and get the most out of their gaming experience," said Simon Whitcombe, of GamesSpot's parent company CBS Interactive.
"Now, the next big innovation is here: merging the editorial with the experiential. By making demos available from our game pages, GameSpot is now the ultimate one-stop destination for gamers to read reviews, news, watch videos, and actually try out the latest games."
Over 100 game demos will be available via the service, which has not yet been given an official launch date. OnLive launches in the UK on September 22, at the Eurogamer Expo at Earls Court.
