Last week saw the lowest games sales on record for UK retailers, who took just £8.4m from software sales.
Whilst the market has been unsteady for a number of weeks now, last week's sales hit rock bottom as just 394,688 games were sold.
These statistics are according to data taken from UKIE/GfK Chart-Track.
It came as no surprise to see Sega's London 2012: Official Video Game become the week's top seller.
Last week's poor showing has largely been attributed to the lack of new releases, which commonly dry up throughout the summer period.
The UK games retail sector has struggled throughout the year, suffering from numerous economic woes and the rise of digital and downloadable content.
Analysts have also highlighted key events such as the Queen's Jubilee, the European Championships and the Olympic Games as having a negative effect on the market, pushing customers away from the high street.
