    The Canadian Private Copying Collective is pushing for the implementation of an iPod fee in Canada to compensate them for 'losses' when people copy music to their digital music players. They have collected a fee from every CDR sold in Canada since 1997 and now want to extend that to digital music players. From the article: 'Some have argued that once they buy a CD they shouldn't have to pay again and again to listen to those songs — which they already purchased — on a personal compilation CD or on their MP3 player. But for people like Milman and Basskin, it's about recognizing the value of those works. "There has to be some sort of way to compensate the artist for the hours and the sweat and the blood and the tears and the extreme, extreme expense that goes into making music," Milman said

    News/release from Sakya

    Hi!

    After a long time I'm here to release LightMP3 Version 2.0.0 RC3

    The main changes are:
    -Support for WMA (Windows Media Audio) file with full support (volume boost, formward/rewind and tag reading with cover art)
    -Bookmark function for audiobook (please read the readme for instructions)
    -Support for Japanese language (the translations has been made by cboy)
    -Better fast forward/rewind

    Also Chinese should work fine, but I don't know chinese so I cannot test it.
    If you want to try just look at the japanese language and skin and change the alternative font to gb3s1518.bwfon

    I tested this version on CF 3.52 M33 and 5.00 M33, please someone confirm if it works fine on 5.50GEN

    Version RC2 was "released" in the LightMP3 forum just for testing, so the changelog includes changes from RC1 and RC2.
    Here's the full changelog:

    Code:
    -Added: When pressing L the song will restart if more than 2% has been played
    -Added: support for relative path in playlists
    -Added: support for WMA (Windows Media Audio)
    Many thanks to cooleyes and hrimfaxi for the sample
    -Added: "Sleep Timer" feature (kurian2z5)
    -Added: Bookmark function (for audiobook): press L+Circle while listening to a track.
    There's a new option in the settings file.
    SHUTDOWN_AFTER_BOOKMARK=0
    The default is 0, if set to 1 the psp will shut down after creating a bookmark.
    The next time you'll start LightMP3 will ask you if you want to load the saved bookmark.
    -Fixed: standardized the fast forward/rewind speed for the different codecs (kurian2z5)
    -Fixed: Conflict with Hold+ (kurian2z5)
    Added a setting to disable the "display off on hold".
    If you use Hold+ please disable this in LightMP3.
    -Fixed: Korean language support.
    -Fixed: shuffle (always the same number were generated in RC1)
    -Fixed: Added sql transaction to playPlaylist (faster change of track)

    Mr Logan has today released a brand new Commodore 64 emulator for Dingoo:

    ***UPDATE : ERROR in readme , loading game is Hold L press Select ****

    For those who cannot wait and because I may not be able get much time on the computer for the next few days.

    Frodo (Commodore 64) for Dingoo Preview
    =======================================
    This is just a preview and there is still plenty more that needs doing.

    Emulator Installation
    ---------------------
    Copy the folder over as usual. My dmenu configuration is below. Change as appropriate.

    MenuItem Frodo

    {

    Icon = "/usr/local/emulators/FrodoDingoo/commodore.png"

    Name = " Frodo"

    Executable = "./dingoo64.sh"

    WorkDir = "/usr/local/emulators/FrodoDingoo"
    Selector = yes

    }

    MenuItem FrodoPC

    {

    Icon = "/usr/local/emulators/FrodoDingoo/commodore.png"

    Name = " FrodoPC"

    Executable = "./dingoo64PC.sh"

    WorkDir = "/usr/local/emulators/FrodoDingoo"
    Selector = yes

    }

    MenuItem FrodoSC

    {

    Icon = "/usr/local/emulators/FrodoDingoo/commodore.png"

    Name = " FrodoSC"

    Executable = "./dingoo64SC.sh"

    WorkDir = "/usr/local/emulators/FrodoDingoo"
    Selector = yes

    }

    C64 Games and Apps Installation
    -------------------------------
    put zipped .d64 files in the 64diskimages folder ( leave the Foo1.d64 file in this folder alone and don't try to select it as it's a placeholder for the application you are about to run)

    Starting a game and Controls
    ----------------------------
    Select either Frodo or FrodoPC or FrodoSC from the dmenu.
    Frodo - Fastest , Least Compatible
    FrodoPC - Fast, Less Compatible (works great for impossible mission)
    FrodoSC - SLOOOW, most Compatible

    In dmenu you navigate to the 64diskimages folder and select your .zip file containing the .d64 file (a very common format on the internet)

    In a short while you should see the blinking cursor of the commodore c64 (yeh!)

    Hold Down L and press SELECT and you should hopefully have started your game/app

    Dpad and button A = joystick
    START = Virtual Keyboard (just the basics for now)
    R = Quit

    Notes:
    ------
    Each compatiblity mode is different so if FrodoPC and FrodoSC don't work it doesn't necessarily follow that Frodo won't.

    Here is a quick explanation of what the scripts do (if somethings not working).
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The frodorc file is mapped to a file called Foo1.d64 in the diskimages folder. The dingoo scripts unzip your selected zip and overite the Foo1.d64 file with the contents of it.

    Someone forgot to tell acclaimed designer Tai Chiem that Sony bagged the Spidey typeface with the PS3 Slim. But the rest of this concept - that means This Is Not Real - is super-futuristic cool. Wait, where's the $24 kickstand?

    We've seen plenty of odd Android permutations, but UMEC seems to be striving to do something all its own. It's showing two devices it currently has in the works, one is a videophone / hub / DECT phone / etc. unit (pictured), which might be at home on a countertop, while the other is a brightly hued MID, with similar internal specs but more portable aims. Both are running ARM Cortex A8 processors (like the iPhone 3GS), though there's some significant OS optimization to be done: everything was incredibly sluggish on the videophone, and the MID was locked up at the time we dropped by. UMEC also doesn't have the touchscreen drivers working for either device, though the good news is that they're looking at both capacitive and resistive touchscreens, based on what the reseller that picks these up desires. Luckily, the videophone has USB plugs galore (along with plenty of Ethernet jacks) so we were able to get a quick demo of the device using a mouse and keyboard. The MID also has a full-size USB plug, and both devices sport HDMI out, so the end usage for both of these is really up in the air. Check 'em out on video after the break.
