Heres an excerpt from the intereview:

Besides the PS3 association, PS1 games will soon be available to download. What can we expect?

At a point this fall, which hasn't been determined yet, you'll be able to download PS1 games to play on your PSP.

How will the controls work when converting a PS1 game to be played on the PSP?

For the most part, most games will be playable. If there's a dual analog game, then it's going to be a little more difficult to have that mapped over correctly. But for the most part, virtually every PS1 game should be playable.

Do you have a price set for how much each game will cost to download?

No, we're still working that out. That's a dual U.S./Japan deal that still being discussed.

There have been rumors about a possible PSP 2 that will have a hard drive and no UMD use at all. Is there anything you can say about that possibility?

Nothing yet, but there are plans in place of how we're going to grow the console. We've talked about how the PSP at its very base is going to be how you see it today in terms of form factor design and whatnot. As far as what is included in any next-gen PSP we haven't even gotten into yet. We're looking more at enhancing the current version.

Portable video player and game device Microsoft Zune has everyone all atwitter since the Redmondians officially announced the brand last week, and now sleuths at Mobilewhack found a document posted at the FCC that shows what is said to be the approval of Zune, where in the document it's called Microsoft Presenter 3000.

A juicy detail: because of the frequency range mentioned in the document, Zune might include WiFi integration, specifically 802.11b. This follows our earlier reports of Microsoft's statement that "seven or eight wireless scenarios" could possibly end up in the upcoming line of players. This current FCC approval could mean that Zune could hit the streets much sooner than anticipated. More as the story unfolds. ...

Nintendo has recently released its 2006 DS line-up for the US and, while it is an undeniably exciting list, there is one game that's conspicuously absent - The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

The beautiful looking adventure is a continuation of the Wind Waker story which finds Link lost and alone at sea, and promises innovative control of the elf with the stylus and touch-screen.

Phantom Hourglass was playable at this year's E3 and was down for a winter 2006 release but hasn't appeared on Nintendo's latest US release schedule,

So far there's been no official comment from Nintendo about Zelda's absence, but hopefully it's only a minor delay and we can look forward to the Phantom Hourglass early next year. ...

Sony has announced that a total of 10,000 PlayStation 3 development systems have been sent out to 208 companies from 11 different countries.

This beats the amount of dev kits given out for PSone and PS2, and includes systems given out to all the heavyweights of the gaming world such as EA, Konami, Sega, Rockstar and Activision.

Sony is keen to make this clear, as a response to continued speculation over the amount of third-party support the new console will get due to the supposedly high development costs for the next-gen machine. ...

Sony is launching a new PSP download service this Friday, offering everyone who can get to a participating store the chance to grab free game demos, music tracks, movie trailers and more.

GAME is just one of the stores participating in the launch, and will be opening the wireless floodgates at its stores in Oxford Street, London and Crown Walk, Milton Keynes.

There's been no mention of a specific promotion at the London store - though we're sure there'll be something on offer - but we do know that the Milton Keynes store are working with Sony to create a LocoRoco Funday and giving away a ceramic white PSP with software.

Similar to Nintendo's Wi-Fi Download Stations for the DS, content will only be accessible whilst the machine's on, so you can't store it to a memory card and play it on the bus home, sadly.

It does give you a fair crack at the whole try-before-you-buy thing though, and might just open your minds to some new games and content you might otherwise have overlooked.

Sony's hoping to roll the service out fully next year, but in the meantime, you can head over to the PlayStation Spot website for a list of participating stores up and down the UK. ...

Amidst all the arguments over PS3's hefty price tag, how much the world really cares about Blu-ray, and how important Xbox 360's steadily growing lead will prove, self-styled 'industry loudmouth' and Epic boss Mark Rein has revealed an interesting take on the next-gen battle from a developer's perspective.

Comparing the situation for developers last year ahead of the launch of 360, Rein believes Sony's efforts to get final dev kits out to studios compares favourably with those of its bitter rival.

"Developers were just getting final PS3 hardware [around E3], which is a long time before ship," Rein told Eurogamer TV. "Developers did not have finished Xbox 360 hardware last year at E3. So Sony's actually maybe in a better place vis-a-vis Microsoft in relation to launch."

"I think Sony's in a good spot with the PlayStation 3," he added. "I know we're getting some great results with it back at our house, so I would expect other developers will be as well."

And speaking of Epic games in development, while 360 action title Gears of War was undoubtedly one of the more visually amazing titles on show during May's gaming spectacular, Rein promised that improved tech will mean that the final version will raise the bar still further.

"[The E3 demo] was using our single-threaded rendered. We have our new Gemini multi-threaded rendered working in the engine right now," Rein explained. "The final game's built on it, it gives us better frame rates and more fluidity - UT 2007 will also benefit from it. It only gets better from here. So if you were impressed with Gears of War at E3, the finished game's going to be much better, it's going to be spectacular." ...

Atari has stepped up to distribute Naruto: Ultimate Ninja on PS2 in Europe this November.

It's Namco Bandai's game, technically, but since the Japanese company doesn't handle its own releases over here it's palmed it off to Atari.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja - previously known as Naruto: Narutimate Ninja, and not to be confused with the Xbox 360 game of the same being produced by Ubisoft - lets you take control of 14 characters from the Naruto anime.

Which, since you might not know, is about a young ninja-in-training called Uzumaki Naruto, who learns ninjitsu with classmates Sakura and Sasuke under the tutelage of a chap called Kakashi.

Inevitably they wind up on adventures, but Ultimate Ninja is more of a beat-'em-up, with four gameplay modes (story, mission, free battle and practice) offering plenty of one-on-one bouts to test your mettle. ...

Microsoft wants to deliver a new game to Xbox Live Arcade every week - and believes it's possible, too.

"I can say we've certainly put enough games into the pipeline and it's certainly our target," Xbox Live Arcade worldwide games portfolio manager Ross Erickson told gaming blog Joystiq this week.

"I'm glad [Xbox Live Arcade] Wednesdays have kicked off. Barring unforeseen development issues from the developers themselves - our issue was to fill the pipeline with a lot of titles on the upfront because of the inevitable schedule delays we'll have - we'll still have enough queued up in our certification process we'll always be able to have something coming out once a week."

Microsoft has previously said it aims to have 160 games available for Xbox 360 by Christmas, and a significant number of those are likely to appear on Xbox Live Arcade - as many as 30 by the end of autumn.

"We certainly have enough games in the pipeline - more than enough, in fact - to achieve that goal on a weekly basis," Erickson told Joystiq.

One thing Microsoft won't be doing - at least not immediately - is allowing developers to make games that occupy more than 50MB of hard disk or memory-card space. "That's pillar number one," according to Erickson.

The idea is to allow Xbox 360 owners who do not own hard disks to store downloaded Live Arcade games on memory units, which allow for 64MB of data.

However, with PlayStation 3 in particular likely to allow for much larger downloadable games, Microsoft runs the risk of losing out on bigger releases despite the impressive momentum Live Arcade has already built up.

Erickson admits that the company is already considering the possibilities of larger memory units, but there's no word on hard-disk-only Live Arcade games or other digitally distributed titles - although it's important to note that the latter, which Microsoft is certainly considering, would fall outside his remit.

"Certainly those memory units are not available yet. And when they become available we'll re-evaluate," he says of Live Arcade's position.

"We're constantly evaluating this not on just the size of the memory unit available, but in terms of what the quality bar is that we're asking for from developers."

"At this time and for the foreseeable future we're sticking to our position that 50MBs is what defines an Arcade title so that portability between system and system can work and so that those users who do not have a hard drive, don't think there's many of them, but for those that don't have a storage solution for getting their games onto their system."

The Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays schedule consists of Frogger, Cloning Clyde and Galaga (the latter released worldwide today), along with Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting (August 2) and Pac-Man (August 9).

Other games on the horizon include Texas Hold 'Em Poker, Sonic the Hedgehog from SEGA, Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers from The Behemoth and various others from the likes of Midway, Namco, Capcom and Microsoft's independent publishing and development partners.

Live Arcade games typically go on sale for 400 or 800 Microsoft points (GBP 3.40 / 6.80), although some - notably Bankshot Billiards - cost 1200 points (GBP 10.20). Free demo versions are available for all of them. ...

    News from Eurogamer

Nintendo of America has outlined its DS release schedule for the fourth and final quarter of the year, and since it features several games absent from Nintendo of Europe's recent counterpart and you'll be wanting to import them, you'd best pay attention.

Not content with that, and perhaps aware how tedious July can be, Nintendo's even teasing us about the Wii release date. "Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item. You might want to pore over it for a few hours before staying up all night to debate phraseology and comma placement with your friends online. Or maybe it's all just a scam to get you to read the other games we have launching this fall. One of the two," the text reads. Those jokers.

RPG fans are surprisingly well represented, to kick off, with Magical Starsign (the second of the Japanese Magical Vacation games, fact fans) due out on October 23rd, and Children of Mana turning up on October 30th, as keen date-spotters already know.

Those of you who had Yoshi's Island 2 pencilled into their diaries on December 1st, its European release date, may also wish to revise, as it's out a little earlier in the US on November 13th.

Good news for fans of brilliant Japanese rhythm-action import Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, too, because iNiS' westernised sequel Elite Beat Agents will be with the yanks on November 6th.

Other games you might want to talk to your importer about include Pokémon Ranger, which is out on October 30th and not to be confused with the DS and GBA Pokémon Mystery Dungeon titles we'll be receiving over here on November 10th.

Then there's Custom Robo Arena, which is listed as December 4th, which is also the day when, if your eyesight's really impressive, you can expect to see Kirby Squeak Squad materialising on American shop shelves. The latter was shown briefly during Nintendo's E3 conference, you may recall, and is more of a traditional platformer than its DS predecessor Kirby: Canvas Curse/Magical Paintbrush. Let's hope it can maintain the quality level.

Finally, there's also Clubhouse Games on October 9th, but that's better known to us in the land of the really annoying sun as "42 All-Time Classics", and since we'll be getting it on September 29th there's really no need to charter a jet. The same goes for Nintendogs Dalmatian edition, which ships on October 16th in the US and is already out here.

Finally, it's worth noting that Nintendo is promising The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for GameCube will show up in the US during fall, i.e. autumn, which means we can expect it before the end of the year basically - no surprises there.

Here then, in its entirety, is the US DS schedule announced by Nintendo of America:

    Clubhouse Games - October 9th
Nintendogs Dalmatian edition - October 16th
    Magical Starsign - October 23rd
    Pokemon Ranger - October 30th
Children of Mana - October 30th
Elite Beat Agents - November 6th
    Yoshi's Island 2 - November 13th
Custom Robo Arena - December 4th
Kirby Squeak Squad - December 4th
Aaand just to save you looking it up again, here's the recently announced Nintendo of Europe DS release schedule for the same period:

    42 All-Time Classics - September 29th
Nintendo DS Browser - October 6th
English Training: Have fun improving your skills - October 13th
    Sudoku Master - October 27th
    Actionloop - October 27th
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team - November 10th
Mario Slam Basketball - November 10th
    Hotel Dusk: Room 215 - November 24th
    Yoshi's Island 2 - December 1st
    Harvest Moon DS - Q4
