    DynamicStability posted this:

I started working on a project today, that will eventually be like a Kaos Pad / Electro Plankton type thing. Maybe something like this, created by Toshio Iawa. Video but cooler. It’s nothing to write home about yet.
Anyway, here’s what I have so far.

    Controls:

    X: Clear screen and sounds.
A: Add sound at current Frequency
    Left/Right increment/decrement frequency.
    Touch: Draw frequencies and amplitudes…
    B: Listen!
Thanks to _0xtob, deku_tree, WntrMute, and GPF for the help.

P.S. You need a whole stdlib.h to even begin to reference laZmike’s mom.

    Source Spong

Speaking at the PlayStation meeting, Sony Computer Entertainment chief Ken Kutaragi confirmed long-standing rumours that a massive PlayStation back-catalogue will come available for the PSP. Read the full report on all the PSP announcements here.

Since then, some further details have emerged regarding SCE's plans to monetise its pre-existing IP. The only comments to date from official sources have confirmed first-party titles will be available, though it's a certainty that the third-parties still in existence and not bound by over-complex mergers agreements will queue up to cash in.

The games will be made available in digital form only and distributed via the web from a soon to be announced Sony portal. They will be bought 'for keeps' by consumers and stored on Sony Memory Stick, with users able to keep a single game for as long as he or she feels fit.

Several Japanese retailers have indicated to SPOnG that Sony will sell new SMS cards in stores, each coming with a specified number of game download credits, though we are unable to add anything more to this at time of press.

One uncertainty is how Sony will keep the rampant PSP hacker community from pulling apart its legitimate operation. With the PlayStation games in ROM form, a significant investment into digital security will be required if the IP is to escape the hackers and subsequent illegal, revenue-free distribution via torrent and peer-to-peer groups.

Expect the full skinny on this interesting take on PSP sideways and back a bit compatibility to emerge at E3 if not a shade before.

A Full on PSOne Emulator running at full speed on the PSP Will be awesome, what i would hope is that those of us who already have the legal versions of the games would somehow be able to transfer them to the Mem Card under some type of validation process. Isnt it Funny that Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are now using Emulators on there new consoles, maybe we should petition for a patent :P ...

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has admitted that the recent announcements regarding the PS3 "will affect Nintendo" - but added that the company doesn't see itself as being in direct competition with Sony.

In an interview with the Guardian Games Blog, Miyamoto said: "Any announcement about PS3 will affect Nintendo. But we don't see it as a competition between the two consoles, although the customers always do."

"It depends on what expectations people have of the PS3 and Revolution. Sony has taken a long time to create their machine but it is obvious that the direction we are taking is different to the PS3."

Miyamoto reaffirmed Nintendo's commitment to creating games that have a wide appeal rather than attempting to compete in the technology stakes, stating: "For a long time now we have been concerned by the direction of the industry. Our competitors are talking about beefed-up graphics and better technology. We could fight in that area but we think it is not necessary and we would rather focus on what Nintendo can do uniquely."

"We want to get a balance between powerful CPUs or beautiful graphics and making the technology comfortable and appealing. We created the DS and Revolution with this philosophy and concept in mind."

Miyamoto also said that Nintendo is committed to online gaming, despite the difficulties involved: "Until recently we have felt that we couldn't make money out of online gaming. It has been very difficult for online games to become an authentic business in this industry."

"I am a game designer myself and what I want to do is make a variety of new games. If we have an online game I would have to spend all my time looking after one game," Miyamoto continued.

"There are a lot of hurdles to be crossed to run an online game but we have fixed some of these, such as ease of connection and security. Now that the Nintendo wi-fi service has done so well we are ready to develop it further." ...

Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo's design genius behind legendary properties like Mario and Zelda, has been speaking about the big N's reaction to this week's PS3 launch announcement in an interview with the The Guardian's games blog.
Miyamoto, who's been in old Lunnun town following his recent knighting at the hands of the French (actually for a few extra quid he could have probably bought one from our very own beloved leader and made it a clean sweep), admitted that, "any announcement about PS3 will affect Nintendo. But we don't see it as a competition between the two consoles, although the customers always do."

Confirming that Nintendo is going for a very different approach in the next generation, Miyamoto expanded by saying: "It depends on what expectations people have of the PS3 and Revolution. Sony has taken a long time to create their machine but it is obvious that the direction we are taking is different to the PS3."
Rather than slug it out in a straight fight with the other two heavyweight games corporations, Nintendo would, as ever, be pursuing its own course as Miyamoto confirmed. "We think that games can't be improved by just focussing on the graphics which is the direction that most of the industry has been heading. Nintendo is very unique, we are an entertainment company. For a long time now we have been concerned by the direction of the industry.

"We could fight in that area [sheer graphical power] but we think it is not necessary and we would rather focus on what Nintendo can do uniquely. We want to get a balance between powerful CPU's or beautiful graphics and making the technology comfortable and appealing. We created the DS and Revolution with this philosophy and concept in mind."

Miyamoto also chose to share a few thoughts on how Nintendo had embraced its new entry into the world of online, saying, "Until recently we have felt that we couldn't make money out of online gaming. It has been very difficult for online games to become an authentic business in this industry." However, following the success of Nintendo's Wi-Fi service, Miyamoto said that Nintendo had fixed some of the problems such as 'ease of connection and security' and promised "we are ready to develop it further". ...
