Just days after Gizmondo launched in continental Europe, Tiger Telematics has confirmed that the handheld will go on sale in North America this summer, with a release planned for August 11.
Tiger is currently showing off the console at E3, and says it has met with an enthusiastic response from potential business partners.
"The sales meetings being conducted at the show have been tremendously productive and there is a genuine excitement regarding the product from everyone we've met with," said global sales VP Mike Morgan.
"We will be announcing our retail and distribution partners through the trade media over the next few weeks."
Tiger Telematics chairman Carl Freer added: "The partnerships we've developed with major games publishers, married with internally developed content, satellite navigation products and Smart Adds, will present a unique portfolio that will guarantee the Gizmondo will stand out when we launch in the US on 11th August.
"The North American market is hugely important and we will make every necessary resource available to ensure a successful launch."
The Gizmondo launched in France, Spain, Italy, Germany and the Nordic territories on May 19, two months after hitting UK stores. It's described as a "multi-entertainment handheld" which features onboard GPS and enables users to watch movies, listen to music, take photos and send messages as well as play games. Samsung has won a seat inside the Sony Playstation 3 with the first 90nm 512 Megabit XDR chips. XDR stands for Extreme Data Rate (which should really be EDR, but X looks better in an acronym), which in turn stands for hot and fast memory for multimedia applications. At transmission speeds up to 9.6GB per second, these chips will fly about 12 times faster than DDR400 memory. They’re especially designed to handle maximum performance for applications requiring advanced imaging and 3D graphics. As a general rule, we approve of maximum performance. Carry on, Samsung.

We have been contacted by the BAZIX Company on our forums and have been informed of a new project they are about to launch. Here is a small tidbit from their press release.

GRONINGEN, May 22nd, 2005 - The Dutch company Bazix is currently developing "MSXPLAYer", an advanced emulator with which popular games from the 1980s and 1990s can be enjoyed once again on Symbian Series 60 mobile phones. MSX games are very small, making it possible to install hundreds of games on a standard mobile phone with a capacity of 32MB. MSXPLAYer furthermore distinguishes itself from ordinary JAVA games thanks to its excellent gameplay, speed and the originality of the MSX games. Where the currently available JAVA games usually are cheaply produced remakes, MSXPLAYer brings a wide range of professionally developed, high quality games to the mobile phones.

The GR-Team is stil alive, no need to worry. We got a couple of bug reports that the levelcodes from level 26 and higher do not work. We apologize for that. Currently we are recoding the whole game from scratch again, for higher portability. Stay tuned for more news...

FJ Santos and Sergio are back with a Snow Bros clone. This is a ONE LEVEL demo only, so please serve them with feedback. The more feedback they get, the more likly is that we will see a full version of it and Santos and Sergio continue their work. The demo is already very solid and nice looking. The authors e-mail adresses can be found in the archives readme file. So please give lot's of feedback.

Thanks to the hard work of Pepsiman, DS Linux now utilizes Linux kernel version 2.6. This also entails framebuffer support. In addition to having a boot logo and a smaller font, the framebuffer will allow for user applications to take advantage of a graphical user interface via MicroWindows or TinyX. In the following shot, a full-screen logo is shown in the touch screen; however, it is more than likely going to be downsized and combined with text console output:

Well we have been working on a fighting game this past week. It's not going to be DOA3/Tekken/Virtua Fighter hardcore, but ATM its like Street Fighter 2. It'll play like Street Fighter EX at best.
Features:
* Game is 3D
* Import more characters
* Import custom levels
* SF2/EX grade fighting engine (no tekken button mash 10 string combos)

Sooo anyway, the model format is all open so anyone can make their own characters, define its special moves, and import it into the game easily... so you can see the potential in this game if people out there contribute.
The game is obviously still VERY early in dev, but we already have it up and running, playable too I guess. As you can see from the screenshot we haven't got time for any graphical work ATM but if there are any artists out there who want to contribute we NEED people who can model, draw textures (for models, HUD, menus etc) ...**** we need people from all areas really... sound... music... if you feel you can offer us something come tell us

DMouse has updated his Nes emu for the GP32, heres whats new:
This new version of the emulator contains a Save auxiliary Slot called "Aux" that stores the content of QuickSave to avoid losses due to a mistake.
If you are playing and by error you press "L" (Load) instead of "R" (Save) and lose the content of QuickSave, you will be able to recover it from the menu "Load State" being loaded the Slot Aux, where always you will have a copy of the previous QuickSave

The "cactus" firmware extensions have, since some days, support for drives 06 (minimally tested) and 08 (untested), in addition to drive 04. If you want to review or test the new stuff look at the CVS and Latest Kernel Build.
