Sony has told us that SOCOM: Confrontation will not be out this Friday in Europe, as some retailers are still suggesting.

Instead, a spokesperson told us the online tactical PS3 shooter will arrive in "early 2009". No reason was given for the delay.

SOCOM: Confrontation has been out in America - where little mice go to make their fortunes - for a while.

So you can always buy from the US PlayStation Store by faking your address and purchasing pre-paid PSN cards from eBay. Or so we've heard.

However, the UK retail version will come bundled with a Bluetooth headset, which is quite important for this sort of squad-based stuff, apparently.

Plus, there are also suggestions that the US version may be clogged with a few bugs; something that might be fixed in the transition to Europe. ...

THQ has announced it has cancelled the PlayStation 3 version of the upcoming title, Destroy All Humans! Path of Furon, over "development issues", but said the title would make its release date on December 1 for the Xbox 360.

The company's confirmation, that the title would now be an Xbox360 exclusive, was given to Shacknews after earlier reporting that the trailer for Sandblast's game no longer made reference to the PS3 version and a number of online retailers had removed the title's listing from their catalogues.

This is the second PlayStation title cancellation for the series this year, with the PlayStation 2 version of Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed scrapped in January.

Sandblast saw an unspecified number of staff axed from the development studio earlier this year, alongside 30 jobs cuts at THQ's Rainbow Studios. ...

Sony's PS3 firmware update site claims that full-screen Flash playback for the internet browser is "coming soon".

The page reportedly said yesterday that a firmware update, 2.53, "was [sic] released on November 26, 2008", but that bit has now disappeared and the "full-screen mode for Flash Player content" is now listed as "coming soon" instead.

Sony's 2.5 firmware update for PS3 quietly introduced windowed Flash 9 content support alongside a raft of other changes.

However, the experience has been mixed for those who use the internet browser to access Flash 9 content (try comparing this Papervision demo running on PC and PS3, for instance), so hopefully full-screen support is coupled to some performance updates as well.

There's no word from Sony yet on whether 2.53 will go live today and when we switched on our PS3s this morning we got nothing. Apart from the serene intro music, obviously. Uuuuuaaaaahhh! ...

You've probably seen the 3G iPhone advert that shows Apple's baby browsing around web pages, fixing GPS locations and downloading files 'really fast'.

The ad states "So what's so great about 3G? It's what helps you get the news, really fast. Find your way, really fast. And download pretty much anything, really fast. The new iPhone 3G. The internet, you guessed it, really fast."

Well, following a number of complaints from customers about the fact that their iPhone doesn't even come close to the sorts of speeds shown, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has rapped the company on the knuckles and ruled that the advert be removed in its current form.

Apple's argument is that the speed shown is relative rather than absolute in comparing the 3G model to the old 2G iPhone but despite the fact that it does state that 'network performance will vary by location' the ASA weren't buying it and said that it would be likely to mislead.

This isn't the first time Apple has 'exaggerated' the features of its products and the ruling leaves the company rather red-faced so soon after its rather puerile mickey-taking of Microsoft in a recent campaign. ...

We've heard that it's been showing up on doorsteps and in stores for a few days now, but T-Mobile has just officially given the word that the G1 is now available in white to complement bronze and the especially personality-free black (not to say there's anything wrong with that, black G1 owners). The price, hardware, and software are all the same, so if you thought this release might somehow magically bring a soft keyboard with it, think again. Any guesses what -- if any -- future colors we might see on this puppy? ...

EA Sports boss and correct football team supporter Peter Moore has said that his Wii games struggle because people are happy with Wii Sports - and that licensed sports games for Wii will lag behind other formats for some time.

"The challenge we face," Moore explained during a chat with MTV Multiplayer, "is that that consumer gets Wii Sports right out of the box and that's a sports experience that's good enough for a lot of people."

Earlier this year Moore announced the All-Play range for Wii, which does more to make the company's sports games accessible and incorporate Wii-specific features like Miis and Jamie Redknapp.

Early examples include Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All-Play, which has sold loads in the US, and caught our attention despite "the slightly opaque nuances of control needed to hit the medium shots and putt", as we put it. We're so wordy.

Moore told MTV that sales are alright - especially for Tiger - but that Wii owners will be given even more incentive to look up All-Play next year, and not just hardcore gamers who also own a Wii, although he's pleased that some of them have bought into All-Play already.

"As you well know, I was the proponent of the Wii60 in the early days. I think there's going to be a very strong multi-console ownership in homes. And I think that's bearing out," he said.

When it comes to the Wii Sports-loving casual brigade, though, "We know what we were doing wrong." Presumably we'll find out what that was and how it's been tackled when Moore and friends introduce us to the next round of All-Play games next year.

"The bottom line is we knew what we weren't doing right. We've corrected that. We're seeing progress. Is it easy? No. Will we ever see attach rates for authentic sports games, for licensed sports games, on the Wii to the same we see on 360 or PS3? Probably not in this cycle. Are we going to see continued growth of both? Absolutely." ...

Microsoft reckons the Xbox 360 will benefit from the credit crunch this Christmas, as families opt to stay at home and share affordable, long-lasting entertainment.

The console also doubles as a room heater, of course, and perhaps there's enough wireless battery acid for the whole family to wash in.

YouGov has surveyed 1000 people in the UK to get results, according to a press release.

Just under half wanted to buy one present the entire family could enjoy, for example. And nearly three quarters wanted to find presents that last longer than a day - like dogs.

Better still, just under half wanted to find an "extra special present" as they would be buying fewer anyway - which tackles the "more expensive" pitfall. Oh, and almost exactly half wanted to bring families together.

"In tough economic times, home entertainment products traditionally do well, as consumers tend to want to stay in and save money. Gaming and entertainment consoles like the Xbox 360 are seen as good value, given they can entertain the whole household through Christmas and beyond," said Martin Olausson from Strategy Analytics.

"Our trend research shows that families are looking for gifts that keep on giving throughout the year," said UK Xbox boss Neil Thompson.

"At an entry-level ERP of GBP 129.99, Xbox 360 offers an amazing experience for the whole family, so with the constant rise in other entertainment based activities such as going to the cinema, concerts and football games, it's clear Xbox 360 offers great entertainment value for families."
