Shigeru Miyamoto has said that the Wii editions of Nintendo's two biggest mascots, Super Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, were good but not quite the games he wanted them to be.

"What I've been saying to our development teams recently is that Twilight Princess was not a bad game, by any means. But, still, it felt like there was something missing," admitted Miyamoto. Even though we, along with the rest of the world, absolutely loved it. We knows what he means though.

Miyamoto went on: "And while, personally, I feel like Super Mario Galaxy was able to do some things that were very new and were very unique, at the same time, from another perspective, certain elements of it do feel somewhat conservative in terms of how far we branched out with design. And so this is something I've been talking to both of those teams about."

Sounds like Miyamoto's been up-ending some desks.

"Of course," he went on to tell MTV, "as is customary with Nintendo, it's very rare that we are able to announce any games until they're ready for release, but I can say that these are themes that both of those teams are taking into account and the hope is that for both of those franchises, when we do release the next installments of the Zelda [franchise] or maybe the next Galaxy, hopefully they will feel newer and fresher than their most recent versions."

We thought Galaxy was incredible, too. Still playing it, in fact, as the other character (no spoilers here, in case you haven't played it). ...

You know how a band's first album is almost always their best? That's how I feel about the first iPod. Sure, it's got a muddy, colorless LCD screen, measly 5GB storage, mechanical scroll wheel, only works with Macs and is a complete brick compared to every other iPod. But it's so much more Zen and alive—from a time of zero feature bloat. It did one thing amazingly well, and changed everything. You can own an untouched brick of history for $500.

That's 25 percent more than it originally cost, which made people crazy then. There's no box or accessories, either. But walking down the street with this would earn you at least one approving nod a day, if you live for cool-kid approval. ...

Shipping delays have pushed the T-Mobile G1's Wally World debut back a few days to Nov. 3. (Maybe they were using the G1's GPS to get there?) Since only 550 of their 4,300 stores getting the G1 makes it kind of a crapshoot if you're driving around looking for one, Walmart's site should have a definitive list of Google-y locations in the next day or two. And hey, $148.88. ...

EA has confirmed that a demo for Mirror's Edge will go live on the PS Store today, and on Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow.

The demo to the brilliant-looking free-running sim will contain "the prologue of the game, a tutorial and a segment of the single-player story mode."

Interestingly, as previously reported, those of you who pre-order the game will also get an unlock code for a hidden Time Trial mode within the demo.

"Time Trial is an addictive mode that challenges players to use their speed and best moves to find the fastest routes throughout the city. Gamers can upload their best time to the Mirror's Edge online leaderboards for their friends to download and compete against," explains EA. Sounds cool.

As well as the demo arriving early on PSN, Sony has also secured DLC exclusivity for the PS3.

If you can't get to your PS3 right now, have a look at some gorgeous footage. ...

Nintendo recorded jumps in both Wii and DS sales during the first half of its business year, but cut its profit forecast in light of the sticky economic climate.

The company shifted 10.1 million Wii units worldwide during the first six months of the fiscal year, up 38% from last year, and said it expects to sell 27.5 million units during the year to March 2009.

During the same period the company sold 13.73 million DS units, up 3% despite the portable being on the market for four years.

The Japanese platform holder raked in net profit of 144.8 billion yen ($1.5 billion) between April and September, which may sound like a lot, but the figure fell short of the 165 billion yen Nintendo had predicted as the company was hit by the strong yen against the dollar.

On the back of the financial results the company cut its yearly profit forecast by 16% to 345 billion yen ($3.5 billion).

In comparison, Sony sold 2.43 million PS3s during the second quarter of its business year, up 85% from the same period last year, but its overall quarterly profit fell by 72% to $214 million. ...

Sony's semi-official UK blog, Three Speech, has published a list of first-party PS3 releases dates that puts Resistance 2 in our gun-hungry hands on 28th November.

The Insomniac-penned first-person shooter is out in the States next Tuesday, but until now Sony has been coy about confirming the exact timing for Europe.

The good news for you lot is that it has been less coy about giving us review code, which should enable us to bring you our thoughts around the time of the US release.

Also on Three Speech's release schedule are SingStar Vol. 3 and SingStar ABBA (both 14th November), and LocoRoco 2, which is down for 21st November, albeit to be confirmed.

For more Resistance 2-related fun, check out the Resistance 2 US TV advert we posted this morning. It's got a bit of gameplay in it, in case you haven't already seen it.

Not as much as all the other content on our Resistance 2 gamepage, though, obviously. ...

Last month Eastasiasoft said their space shooter Söldner-X was on target to become a PlayStation Network download in October. Since it’s the last week in October I thought we would see it on this Thursday’s PlayStation Store update. After searching their forums I discovered this was not the case. A moderator explains, “the game will be pushed back to a late November release.” I thought I would be searching for 20 secret keys to get a silver trophy too. ...

Fable 2 has gone straight in at number one on the UK all-formats software chart, making it the fifth fastest-selling Xbox 360 game of all time. (GTA IV's the fastest ever, if you were wondering. Probably not.)

According to data providers Chart-Track sales of last week's chart-topper, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, have fallen more than 50 per cent - leaving the game in fourth place. FIFA 09 sales are also down, this time by nearly a quarter, and it's at number three.

So who's in the No. 2 spot? Why, it's Far Cry 2, making its chart debut this week. A third of copies sold were for PS3, while 43 per cent were for Xbox 360 and 24 per cent for PC. Other new entries in the top ten include Dead Space at No. 6 and Midnight Club: Los Angeles at No. 10.

Nintendo's maintaining a presence in the top ten with Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii at 8 and 9 respectively. However, what's more unusual is to see is Microsoft claiming the best-selling version of five out of the top six games in this week's chart. Gosh.

Electronic Arts has answered the call for more games on Google's Android mobile device platform – i.e. the T-Mobile G1 – with a version of Tetris now available for download from the EA Mobile site. The game is selling for $7.99. It will be followed next month by Bejeweled and Monopoly: Here & Now Edition.

In an official release, EA Mobile America and Asia publishing veep Adam Sussman calls Android an "exciting new platform" and says that the division has "more games in development" beyond the three revealed today. Looking at its catalog of iPhone / iPod Touch games, it's probably safe to expect some variation of Spore and Scrabble to be in the bunch. ...
