The Suikoden series is set for a return shortly, only this time it's on something other than the PlayStation. DS is the platform of choice for the latest installment, which is set to be titled Genso Suikoden Tierkreis. The latest issue of Famitsu has a first report.

Tierkreis begins after the final fight of the 108 Stars, as the Suikoden heroes are nearly defeated by a powerful foe. Only four remain when the battle ends.

You play as a young boy from the border village of Shitoro. As a member of a peacekeeping group, it's your job to protect the village from bandits and monsters.

How your character gets involved with the 108 stars is something that will presumably be explained throughout the course of the game. Your adventure begins as you and your fellow peacekeepers head out on a monster expedition. While exploring the mountains near your village, you come upon a strange light, which marks the start of the story.

Famitsu has only a few details on the gameplay side of Tierkreis. The game's battle system features parties of four. However, your cast of allies grows well beyond this. You're free to select your party members as you please.

How you form your party appears to have a great effect on your battle options. Characters can team up for special attacks depending on their type. If you have three sorcerers, they can gather their magic for a stronger attack. Similarly two warriors will team up for a speedy combo attack while two sword wielders will show off their sword skills in unison.

Outside of battle, it seems this latest entry of Suikoden will be a full-blown RPG, with a huge world to explore, filled with different races and cultures. Despite the premise of the 108 Stars being wiped out at the beginning, the game will still center on the player meeting up with 108 allies.

Suikoden Tierkreis is currently 50% complete, Famitsu reports. The game is without a final release date. ...

The three-year deal marks the first time Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios has licensed its titles to be published by a third party on mobile.

SCE has previously released mobile versions of games like Ratchet & Clank through its Sony Pictures Digital unit.

Player X will release Buzz! in the autumn, with Destruction Derby following in early-2009. Both games will be supported by an integrated cross-platform marketing campaign with SCE.

Buzz! titles for PlayStation 2 have now shipped more than five million units across the PAL region, along with a further 1.25 million units in the Buzz Junior range.

The first Buzz! games for PS3 and PSP are set to arrive in July.

Michael Denny, SVP of SCE Worldwide Studios Europe, said: "The creative proposals that came through from Player X were very encouraging and in line with what we are hoping to do with these two licences. ...

Five games companies are to demand 25,000 file-sharing internet users to pay GBP 300 immediately or risk going to court.

The users are being targeted for downloading and sharing games illegally, according to The Times.

Atari, Codemasters, Reality Pump, Techland and Topware Interactive have appointed legal brain Davenport Lyons to take action on their behalf.

Operation Flashpoint by Codemasters was apparently downloaded over 691,000 times in one week, according to internet watcher Peerland.

"Our clients were incensed by the level of illegal downloading," said Roger Billens from Peerland.

The quintet make their stand after the successful prosecution Isabella Barwinska, who has been fined GBP 16,000 for uploading and sharing Dream Pinball 3D by Topware.

The group will begin by targeting the first 500 file-sharers to ignore the GBP 300 demand, and have applied to the High Court to demand internet service providers deliver the names and addresses of all 25,000 breaking the law.

According to The Times, 5000 addresses have already been obtained. ...

Capcom has kicked off this morning's Leipzig media explosion with a new Resident Evil 5 trailer and eight (count 'em) screenshots.

The potential game of the year 2009 was recently dated for yes - 2009. Friday, March 13, 2009 to be exact - and that's a simultaneous North America and Europe release as well.

As expected co-op was also confirmed to be a major feature of the fifth game, which to be honest has us a bit concerned over the quality of the single-player experience. Looks a bit like Resi 4 in places doesn't it?

Don't bugger it up, Capcom. Please don't bugger it up.

Hidden at the end of a press release for Microsoft's impressive holiday line-up is word that there'll be news on the GTA IV DLC this autumn. That's 'news' and not a release date.

Whether that means we can expect a release around then or later in the year (dare we mention '09?) we still don't know.

Microsoft says: "In autumn there will be news from Liberty City; the first episodes of GTA IV will be available for download exclusively on Xbox Live, underlining Xbox 360's leadership role in the field of digital entertainment."

Make of that what you will. ...

Sony has introduced EyePet for PS3, a "magical application" in the words of Sony Europe boss David Reeves, which is due out next year.

EyePet allows you to adopt a virtual pet and then stroke and play with them, or draw toys for them to muck about with.

During an on-stage demo during Sony's Games Convention conference, we saw a "monkey-dog thing" (good reporting, Ellie) in action.

Apparently the player drew a car on a bit of paper and the monkey thing coloured it in, and then by pressing a button the PS3 controller it turned into a real car.

They also showed Heavy Rain, though, so you don't have to kill yourself yet. ...

Sony has taken the wrappers off a new downloadable music and video service called Vidzone, which is different to the US online video store and due out in 2009. The proper video store is still happening, apparently.

Vidzone is a free service designed to offer "easy access" to "music on demand". You'll be able to build and save a music library, make your own playlists and access it remotely via PSP.

You'll also be able to download ringtones to your mobile phone "for a very small fee" according to Sony Europe boss David Reeves.

Apparently there are two discrete services in PAL markets for music and movies. Vidzone will launch in Q1 next year. The Music download service for PSP and PS3 will launch in Q3 2009. They're targeting 23 PAL territories. We don't really understand the details either - we'll clarify when we can.

As for the proper video store, where you can buy and download movies, Reeves said that it will launch next year, as announced during E3. ...

EA Sports has confirmed it is working on a brand new tennis franchise at its EA Canada studio in Vancouver.

The first title will be released on the Wii in 2009 and will be the first EA Sports title to use the Wii MotionPlus accessory, unveiled recently by Nintendo.

"As we look to expand the EA Sports brand and captivate sports fans from around the world with rich new interactive experiences, it was obvious that the renaissance we're seeing in the sport of tennis provides us with a big opportunity," commented Peter Moore, president of EA Sports.

The company has also signed up the exclusive rights to the All England Lawn Tennis Club, home of the Wimbledon Championships.

Following a release on the Wii, the franchise will also make its way to other consoles.

Current tennis franchises include Sega's Virtua Tennis and 2K's Top Spin series. ...

We're just a few minutes removed from Sony's press conference at the German Games Convention, and the news is just starting to sink in. Although the announcement of the PSP-3000 probably grabbed most people's attention with its new LCD screen and built-in microphone, it was one of the bundle details that caught our eyes.

The 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack will pack a PlayStation Network voucher for Everyday Shooter. Since when was Everyday Shooter for the PSP?

"Unlike traditional arcade shooters, in Everyday Shooter each on-screen interaction is a note, chord, or riff that plays in harmony with each level's unique music track," a Sony press release said. "The title is available for PlayStation 3 and will be making its debut for PSP. Download Everyday Shooter for PSP from PlayStation Store to your Memory Stick PRO Duo with the included voucher."

Hmm. Interesting. The 4GB pack is set for a debut "later this year," so we imagine that's the release date for Everyday Shooter as well. Stay Tuned. ...

Mario Kart Wii is once again sitting pretty at the top of the UK charts, marking its ninth week at the number one slot.

The office favourite racer saw a six percent jump in sales (that's probably the rest of the our building hearing how much fun we're having) to beat Wii Fit to the top slot, which itself slumped 24 percent in the sales department this week.

Sitting at the number three and four slots, expectedly, is Sega's Olympics double-whammy Beijing 2008 and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. Unlucky Australia, by the way.

The full list is as follows:

    1. Mario Kart Wii - Nintendo
    2. Wii Fit - Nintendo
    3. Beijing 2008 - Sega
    4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games - Sega
    5. Wii Play - Nintendo
    6. Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock - Activision
    7. Soul Calibur IV - Ubisoft
    8. Big Beach Sports - THQ
    9. Dr Kawashima's Brain Training - Nintendo
    10. Guitar Hero: On Tour - Activision
