Bethesda man Pete Hines has said the company "clearly intended" to make more than one Fallout game when it bought the rights to the series.

"The whole reason we went out and acquired the licence and that we now own Fallout is that we clearly intended to make more than one," Hines told TVG. "This is not something we're going to do once and then go away and never do it again.

"When that will be or how long that will be god only knows, but we acquired it specifically because we wanted to own it and develop it and work on it like we do with The Elder Scrolls," he added.

However, Hines publicly talked of sequels after licensing Fallout 3 (and Fallout 4, Fallout 5) back in 2004.

The company acquired full rights to the series from Interplay in 2007.

Fallout 3 is in development for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. But you will need a PC or an Xbox 360 in order to access downloadable content for the game, as Bethesda announced during E3. ...

Criterion is finally wheeling out the free Cagney update for Burnout Paradise on Xbox 360.

The patch, nearly a month late, will be bolted on at some point today.

Codename Cagney adds Marked Man, Stunt Run and Road Rage game modes to Burnout Paradise, plus the Live Page calendar for keeping track of developer-led events. There are also new cars, liveries, 70 extra Challenges and a heap of technical changes inside.

Burnout Paradise patch Davis is scheduled to follow next month. It will introduce lovely motorbikes plus a day-night cycle to the open world racer.

PS3 and Xbox 360 versions should, fingers crossed, launch together this time. ...

Developer Media Molecule has "a rather scarily long list of great ideas for ways to support the community" after LittleBigPlanet launches - but is waiting to see what people want first.

"We've got loads of plans, we're going to support it massively," studio founder Alex Evans told Eurogamer. "Content packs, new objects, new game modes... All of this stuff could be done. What we're basically waiting to see is what the demand is for.

"We can do all of that stuff - we will do all of that stuff - but what order we do it in, and how much weight we throw behind any of the different ideas that different people have got, is totally down to what the community does," he continued.

"That really excites me, because if people are loving the costumes, we can crank them out. If people are loving the levels and master classes... We've got a slightly scarily long list of great ideas for ways to support the community, and it's just a matter of prioritising at this stage."

As to what users will be paying for that content - if anything - Media Molecule hasn't made up its mind yet, but there'll definitely be some freebies in the mix.

"All options are open," Evans informed us. "I can definitely say that there will be content that's available to people free of charge - I'm just not saying exactly what that content is going to be right now.

"I can also say that if there's any way we can reward the community, we'll go there. If people are clamouring for big chunks of content, it would make total sense for us to do it. We're just exploring all options at this point. Sequels? Why not! DLC? Yeah, why not! Paid-for content? Why not!"

Look out for our full interview with Alex Evans soon. ...

The untamed wilderness that was the American west in the 19th Century was tough, mister. You never knew when a balloon with dynamite attached to it would float up from the ground and try to attack, not to mention the giant flying sheriff's badges. Purple kamikaze midgets were around every corner, and you couldn't walk 10 feet without getting sombreros thrown at you.

Now, there's a game that captures the West, the real West in all its hat-tossing, purple-kamikaze-midget-having glory: Wild West Guns (Gameloft, 1-2 players, 1,000 Wii Points). Eat your hearts out, Carradines David and Keith. Eat them right out. ...

Square Enix has revealed that Final Fantasy XIII will be released in Japan next year.

A PS3 demo will arrive as a bonus disc with the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children animated film in March 2009. We're unlikely to see a sampler at the Tokyo Game Show later this year, though.

That's according to announcements from the DKΣ3713 event in Tokyo last weekend, where FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama said work has not yet begun on the Western Xbox 360 version of the game.

Square Enix has previously told us Final Fantasy XIII will launch on both platforms simultaneously in Europe and the US, which means we could face more than localisation delays as the Microsoft version plays catch-up.

"We haven't changed the direction of the development. We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later," said Toriyama in an on-stage video interview, translated by GameSpot.

"I'm telling [the development team] to not think about the Xbox 360 right now. We can think about it after the development kits arrive."

Videos from the show are rarely released, but reports suggest real-time footage of Final Fantasy XIII and action sibling Final Fantasy Versus XIII was shown.

Square Enix told us European plans for Final Fantasy XIII and the demo are yet to be confirmed. ...

SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has briefly mentioned Fumito Ueda and Team Ico's new PS3 game, which he says is looking "really, really good".

In an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine UK, Yoshida hinted that it could be a while before we see the Shadow of the Colossus team's new game.

"They are working on a title," he told the mag. "I started the ICO project. Ueda-san joined my team in Japan as a cinematic animator, but he created a short movie and presented it to me and said, 'I want to make this game.'

"I said, 'Yes, let's do it, but you have never made a game. We have to have experienced people do it,' so it took a while, recruiting one person at a time. And because Fumito Ueda doesn't compromise, we had to move the development from PSone to PlayStation 2. Then I couldn't complete the game because I moved to the United States.

"It took four years and the second game took four years too," the new Sony games boss continued."So I started calling them the 'Olympic Team.' They haven't released a PS3 title yet - of course not - they'll take four years! But they have something really, really good on the way." Hopefully we'll see something next year, then?

An image of the mysterious Ico PS3 game emerged earlier this year, showing a ancient, stone environment that wouldn't be out of place in either of the previous two games. ...

A new trailer for Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood has been released online. You can check it out to the right.

"An epic journey begins," says the trailer. It certainly portrays it like that.

We were expecting something a bit lighter and more tongue-in-cheek, but this earnest approach is none the less welcome.

It's the footage that excites us though. The trailer shows Sonic going through loop after loop, collecting rings and generally doing all the stuff we've missed seeing him do.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood is tapped for release on September 26.

The promised 1.01 patch for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune has hit the decidedly charted PAL regions of the world, unlocking PlayStation 3 trophy support for one of the console's greatest titles. The patch, which weighs in at a modest 13 megs, unlocks 47 trophies that coincide with the achievements already built into the game, along with a 48th platinum trophy for unlocking all of the other trophies. Already unlocked all of the game's achievements? Well start a new game and unlock them again, as they won't be applied retroactively due to cheating concerns.

Right now the patch is only showing up in PAL territories, though we're certain a North American release can't be too far behind. AHA! Err, UPDATE: Now available in the states! ...

Satoru Iwata has said that the company has now used all the ideas in the proposal pipeline for Wii with the development of Wii Music.

"Wii Music completes what Miyamoto wrote in his proposal when he came up with the idea for the Wii," he told the Wall Street Journal. "He was saying that he needs to think up more ideas now."

The steady amount of new peripherals is set to dry up too. "Most of the ideas for accessories that we had initially come up with are out now.

"We might think up some more, and we might make them if we do, but we don't have any plans to release a whole lot more."

That is of course, only if Miyamoto's next big idea doesn't require one. We're also holding out for a proper Wii Remote joystick for whenever Star Fox rears its welcome head. ...

Insomniac Games has said Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty will be available here from 21st August - the same day as the US.

The game costs USD 14.99 over on the other side of the ocean, but Sony Europe has yet to set a price. We're getting a regional Blu-ray release of Quest for Booty, although the exact date for that is also TBC.

Quest for Booty is the naughtily- and nautically-named PSN sequel to Future tools of Destruction.

The game is around three to four hours long and looks as impressive as Future Tools of Destruction did, only this time there are pirates with brilliant things like cutlasses and big leather boots and parrots.

Sadly there will be no Trophy support, as Insomniac finished the game before that feature was released in PS3 firmware v2.4. ...
