Yakuza 2? It's been out in Japan for YONKS, but that's not deterred Sega from bringing the PS2 game to the UK and Europe, where it'll release "during 2008".

In fact, earlier in the month Japan got its hands on Yakuza 3 on PS3 (check out some videos of this here), which performed well during its first week of release.

Anyway, if you're not at all familiar with Yakuza 2 it's a third-person action-adventure dealing with Japan's answer to the Mafia. Boasting revamped combat and larger environments than its predecessor, the sequel finds players reprising the role of Kazuma Kiryu who is attempting to halt a clan war.

Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, Sega Europe, has said the company's thrilled to be bringing Yakuza 2 to these shores.

"Yakuza 2 is one of the most requested Japanese titles in our portfolio and we're delighted to finally announce a European version", he added.

Tetris-inspired blockbuster TiQal is this week's Xbox Live Arcade release, so don't bother trawling Marketplace for Ikaruga - because it's not there.

Microsoft recently released the list of the next few Arcade releases, which includes Capcom's Commando 3, Rocky and Bullwinkle and lots of board games. At least Commando looks decent.

The Mayan themed puzzler has you dropping and spinning different blocks, which the aim of matching colours and destroying enemy walls. Like Tetris, then.

It costs 800 Microsoft points (about £6) and includes 120 levels, as well as a co-operative mode and Xbox Live head-to-head play. Head over to Xbox.com for screenshots. ...

Happy free Heroic Map Pack day everyone! For those with a little patience, you'll be rewarded today with Halo 3's former $10 set of maps for the cost of air (but not PerriAir; that the Spaceballs still charge for). The pack includes Standoff, Rat's Nest and Foundry. While we'd love to tell you all about these levels, we're getting our first taste of them today.

With all that said, there's currently a hiccup in the system and the content – which was supposed to be free at 2AM pacific last night – is still listed for $10 on Xbox Live Marketplace. Bungie's forum has a nice thread (about to break 100 pages) on the issue and we're trying to get an answer from Major Nelson for the Microsoft angle. We'll update when the map pack actually becomes, you know ... free.

After speaking with spokesperson for EA, IGN has learned a few more details on the intended pricing structure for the weapons in Battlefield: Bad Company. There has been some public outcry that EA is trying to "scam" customers as screens of the BF:BC Beta indicated that some weapons might have to be purchased off of Marketplace, thus giving some an advantage over the rest of the playing field.

Here's the real deal straight from the EA Spokesperson, "Battlefield: Bad Company will release five unique weapons free of charge through five different promotional programs prior to launch. EA will again make these weapons available to players free of charge after launch, in case anyone missed the pre-launch promotions.

At launch, EA will release a Gold Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company which will feature an additional five new weapons. For players who do not purchase the Gold Edition of the game, they can still buy the five weapons at a small individualized price per item. All weapons are balanced for gameplay. More weapons offer players more choices but do not create an advantage/disadvantage for players who do not opt to buy new items."

So, if you're one of those gamers who needs to have every weapon, game development diary and behind-the-scenes featurette, do yourself a favor and pick up the Gold Edition. We'll have more coverage on the Battlefield: Bad Company Beta and full release in the near future. ...

According to a blurry GameStop release list image posted by WiiCast over the weekend, the charge for admission into the Wii Fit club will be $90. We've confirmed with various local GameStops that the game is listed in its system for $90. Pre-orders are being offered for $10 instead of the regular $5, but the two-fold increase is something we've heard has been in the GameStop pipeline for a while.

Nintendo confirmed with Joystiq that "the only thing released is that [Wii Fit] will be 'under $100'" when it debuts on May 19. North America is the only announced region for Wii Fit without a confirmed price tag, with Europe and Australia ready to pay over $100 USD for the pressure-sensitive sweat board. ...

Harmonix confirmed today that Rock Band for Wii will be released on June 22nd for $169.99 [£85]. The so-called "Special Edition" bundle will include the game, drums, microphone and a wireless guitar. Standalone instruments will also be available for purchase on June 22nd. The Wii edition will feature 63 songs, including five unspecified "bonus" songs. We've asked Harmonix to answer some of your more burning questions -- we'll update this post when they do.

[Update: Sean from Harmonix dropped into the forums to answer some questions about the Wii release. First, "the feature-set is a lot closer to the PS2 version of Rock Band which was also developed by Pi Studios." Harmonix "decided to focus on getting the core gameplay on to the Wii and focus on making that awesome" which means we're expecting the same or similarly scaled-down World Tour and character creation modes. He also says "the instruments don't use the Wiimote. They function the same as our peripherals on the other platforms." Still no word on whether or not your existing Guitar Hero III Wii-guitar will work with Rock Band on Wii.] ...
