Over two years after its UK debut and after no end of shortages, Nintendo’s Wii has now reached a level of open availability for UK retailers.

Koch has told Nindie.com retailers that Wii hardware, which includes Wii Sports, is now freely available and will no longer be restricted to purchase on an allocation basis.

“Whilst stock is in better supply than ever, we still have to carefully manage our customer base so that unbalanced stocking is avoided,” Koch MD Craig McNicol told MCV.

“We urge our customers to plan their requirements for the next eight weeks, giving us upfront purchase orders week by week if necessary.

“We also urge customers to remember that Wii console purchases count towards the allocation of DSi, Wii Fit and forthcoming new releases.”

A Nintendo spokesperson added: “We now expect Wii availability to be improved over previous levels.”

Meanwhile, despite the increase in the Wii’s trade price coming into effect at the beginning of the month, there seems to be little indication of retailers adjusting their price.

CHIPS’ joint MD Don McCabe stated: “We haven’t put our prices up yet as we’re still able to access stock sourced at the original value. However, this supply is drying up, so we’ll have to see what happens with the extra cost.”

Sony's outgoing president David Reeves has said that Capcom's continued support for the PlayStation brand has helped the company establish all of its home consoles on the market, from the original PlayStation to the PS3.

And as the companies prepare a new Monster Hunter hardware bundle for release in June, Reeves said that Capcom can help Sony put the PSP at the forefront of handheld gaming this year.

"The relationship between Capcom and PlayStation goes all the way back to the very start of PlayStation in 1994 when it was introduced in the end of November/beginning of December in Japan. Games such as Mega Man, Street Fighter and Resident Evil helped establish the PlayStation brand and truly showed how gaming was changing forever,” said Reeves at last week's Captivate event, reports Eurogamer.net.

"This relationship has continued throughout PlayStation 1's lifecycle, through to PlayStation 2, with games such as Devil May Cry, and of course into the latest generation of home and portable consoles with PS3 and PSP."

The Monster Hunter bundle will come with a copy of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, and a demo will be made available on UMD and via the PlayStation Network in the run up to release.

Reeves admitted that some PSP software and support has been lacking, but 2009 is shaping up to be an important year for the handheld - promising more unveilings for the hardware later in the year.

"I'm not going to stand here and tell you we've had it all our own way since we launched the PSP. We know that our own Sony software line-up, and to some extent the third parties', has not lived up always to expectations.

"2009 promises to be a very important year for PSP, with its strongest software line-up ever, with some exciting surprises yet to be announced," added Reeves.

"Monster Hunter Freedom Unite will spearhead the PSP resurgence of 2009, we believe, and I would like to thank Capcom for their unwavering support in this endeavour."

Reeves said that the reason Sony and Capcom's relationship has remained strong over the year's is due to both company's taking chances and being willing to experiment with new gaming experiences.

"The industry has changed beyond recognition throughout the 15 years that I've been part of it, yet the relationships between companies such as Capcom and PlayStation have remained constant.

"This is not because tradition states they should, this is not because we're afraid to shake things up - the reason these relationships have remained so strong is because we are indeed like-minded, iconoclastic companies, companies that strive for the same goal, to create innovative, and more than anything, fun experiences."

Sony has confirmed that Naughty Dog's PS3 action sequel Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be graced with online multiplayer modes, including co-op.

At a preview event in Los Angeles last week, attended by Eurogamer, Naughty Dog surprised the press by showing deathmatch and 'Plunder' competitive modes for teams of five, and three-player co-op maps based on - but separate from - the single-player adventure. It's a departure for Uncharted; the first game was a strictly solo affair.

Plunder is a capture-the-flag variant in which teams of "heroes" and "villains" compete to find treasure and lug it to safe spots. Deathmatch is a straightforward race to a set kill count.

In the co-op mode shown, players battle through a level dominated by intense combat, occasionally teaming up to overcome physical obstacles.

There will also be a cinema mode similar to Halo 3's Theater, allowing players to record replays and direct the camera, and a linked website offering stats and leaderboards.

Uncharted 2 will have a public multiplayer beta test. US PS3 owners can get access by buying a copy of inFamous - Sony says it will be doing something similar in Europe too. ...

Today, the Asahi Shimbun reported that Konami will no longer be publishing the first-person shooter Six Days in Fallujah, which is set in Fallujah, Iraq. The game depicts the violent street battles between U.S. forces and Iraqi terrorists during a several-week period in 2004. The game was being developed by Atomic Games and was very accurate to the actual conflict.

A PR official from Konami offered this comment to the Asahi: "after seeing the reaction to the videogame in the United States and hearing opinions sent through phone calls and e-mail, we decided several days ago not to sell it. We had intended to convey the reality of the battles to players so that they could feel what it was like to be there."

The shooter, which was originally scheduled for a launch sometime in 2010, doesn't appear to be cancelled just yet. There is a possibility that a new publisher will pick up the Atomic Games project. ...

While mere mortals will most likely have to wait until May to get at Cupcake (probably even stooping so low as to refer to it as Android 1.5, those commoners), the proud, good-looking possessors of Android Dev Phones can get at the update right this instant from HTC's website.

Naturally, we'd assume somebody's going to figure out how to get these images onto rooted G1s before long, but we wouldn't want to over estimate the intelligence or temerity of the proletariat. ...

Do you miss Max Payne? For $15 (US) you can find out why the hard-boiled detective became popular in the first place with both brief but intense action titles. According to a press release, Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne should be available now on the Xbox Live Marketplace, joining the ranks of the Xbox Originals.

Max Payne was originally released as a PC game back in 2001, then later made its way to Xbox in December of that year. Max Payne 2 was released in 2002. Both games featured plenty of third-person shooting sequences and emphasized the use of 'bullet time,' a special mode of play that could be frequently triggered to slow down the game world, making it easier to spectacularly gun down Max's many enemies.

Banjo-Kazooie's long lost secrets have been exposed, via a video showing the illusive "Stop 'n Swop" feature that has been re-implemented into Banjo-Tooie for Xbox Live Arcade.

Stop 'n Stop was originally teased and intended for the original N64 Banjo-Tooie, but ultimately canned before release. The feature allows you to move items from the original Banjo-Kazooie into Tooie for special rewards.

"4J Studios have dredged the Banjo team's collective memory and implemented the original plan for Stop 'n' Swop, for the first time on any platform ever and after many long years of waiting," Rare promised in the XBLA game's announcement.

But, as the video reveals, we very much doubt a 360 Gamerpic and Dashboard theme were part of the "original" N64 plan (the other unlocked rewards were already in the original 'Tooie). What's the deal then, Rare?

Banjo-Tooie's out on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday, April 29 for 1200 Microsoft points (about £10).

    Thanks, RareWitchProject.

At a recent press event, Bethesda's VP of Marketing and Public Relations Pete Hines told attendees not to hold their breath in regards to a new game in the Elder Scrolls franchise. The team led by Todd Howard that is responsible for the Elder Scrolls games -- including Morrowind and Oblivion – as well as Fallout 3 will remain quiet for now. As Hines plainly stated, "The next big project announcement is not coming anytime soon."

Those hoping to revisit Tamriel in the interim can look forward to two books currently in the works, to be published by Del Ray books. The first, penned by Greg Keyes, is titled "The Infernal City" and picks up the story at the end of the events from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It is due out this fall. ...
