Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 3: Broken Steel will available on 5th May.

Exclusive to Xbox 360 and PC, this third batch of downloadable content raises the level cap from 20 to 30 and opens play past the conclusion of the main campaign.

On top of that are lots more toys to collect, Tesla Cannons to frazzle baddies with, new super mutants to run away from and much, much more.

And we cobbled all that together in a freshly-published Broken Steel preview after Bethesda obligingly whisked us through the content earlier this week.

Broken Steel - like The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage before it - costs 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) on Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live. ...

Announced during GDC 2009, Sony's development-cost-matching scheme, "Pub Fund," is already garnering praise from the first company to take advantage of it. Burn Zombie Burn studio Doublesix tells Develop that the program -- which matches a PSN game's production costs in royalties, in exchange for PS3 exclusivity -- is "invaluable," not only in terms of funding, but marketing support as well.

James Brooksby, studio head of Doublesix, spoke to other developers, saying, "I think there's a number of other ways in which the Pub Fund can help you, not least because Sony suddenly has a more vested interest in your product's success." Since Sony is looking for a good return on its considerably sizable investment, not everyone can get on the Pub Fund. "Obviously there will be a level of quality expected from Sony's side, so not everyone will be suitable for Sony either," said Brooksby.

"We put a lot of money into the marketing of Burn Zombie Burn," Brooksby said. "And our own funding, along with Sony's, helped achieve great exposure for the game." That exposure has left the developer "absolutely delighted" with BZB's sales to date, and, according to Brooksby, the team is already at work on its next title -- no doubt with the assistance of the Fund.

A downloadable demo is on the way for forthcoming PSP title Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

According to the Capcom blog, it'll feature multiple missions you can complete in single-player, with the help of a Felyne knight, or multiplayer.

"To help newcomers hunt some of the bigger beasties and get a taste of the deeper action, we created higher level characters skilled at each of the major weapon types," the blog post reads. "Basically, the demo gets you into the hunt as quickly as possible."

The demo should hit the PSP Store in early June. A release date for the full game has yet to be announced. ...

The port house behind the Xbox Live Arcade releases of Banjo-Kazooie and it sequel says it'd "love" to bring more of Rare's N64 classics to the 360 download service.

Speaking to fan site MundoRare, 4J Studios co-founder Paddy Burns said he's got his "fingers crossed" that more Rare port jobs are offered to the stuidio.

"We'd love to keep working with MGS and Rare so I guess just keep your fingers crossed along with us," he said. Killer Instinct, Jet Force Gemini, Perfect Dark and Blast Corps then, please.

Elsewhere in the chat Burns assures fans that the long-discussed Stop 'n' Swop feature reincorporated into Banjo-Tooie XBLA (which has been dated for April 29) will be the "original plan" for the canned '64 feature.

"The Stop 'n' Swop legend is a monster amongst fans of the series; so, with that in mind, we hope people will enjoy and appreciate what has been done", he said.

"We have implemented, under MGS and Rare guidance, the gameplay that completes the SnS journey; it is, as much as anyone can say, the 'original plan', and everyone involved thinks it's cool.

"It's certainly more than a reward system. Bearing in mind we cannot create new areas, gameplay or content, it wasn't trivial to implement either.

"It does mean that XBLA Tooie is different to the N64 version, for those who know the original game, we couldn't give you the 'original plan' if the eggs and ice key remained from the N64! If you don't have Banjo-Kazooie you'll never see them, just like you wouldn't have 10 years ago..."

    Banjo-Tooie will cost you 1200 Microsoft Points (£10.20). ...

The Universal Society of Hinduism has called for Sony to withdraw PS2 game, Hanuman: Boy Warrior, recently released in India.

In the game you take control of Hanuman as a powerless boy, and regain his powers as the game progresses. But Rajan Zed, president of the society, says "controlling and manipulating Lord Hanuman with a joystick/ button/keyboard/mouse was denigration", and that "reimagining Hindu scriptures and deities for commercial or other agenda" hurt its followers.

He added: "Lord Hanuman was not meant to be reduced to just a 'character' in a video game to solidify company/products base in the growing economy of India."

Zed goes on to state: "Video game makers should be more sensitive while handling faith related subjects, as these games left lasting impact on the minds of highly impressionable children, teens and other young people."

Hindus, he says, welcome the entertainment industry's embracing of the religion, but only if taken "seriously and respectfully".

Sony has refused to comment. ...

An anonymous developer has confirmed that a WiiWare sales threshold - below which a studio makes no money - exists, but says it has been misinterpreted by the press.

"I'm concerned this recent threshold news is generating an artificially negative wave of press. The spirit of the threshold was never to screw the developer - it was, as far as I can tell, a quality control mechanism to prevent the service from getting overrun with a bunch of crappy games," the source told our sister site Eurogamer.net.

"Once the threshold is crossed, the developer is retroactively paid for every single unit sold below the threshold. I know there has been confusion on that point in the past.

"From the stats I've seen and heard developers report, the threshold is easily surpassed within the first day, or at least the first week, for many games," the source explained.

"I hear rumours within the dev community that Nintendo recognises a problem here, where occasionally an entirely legitimate game just doesn't make it, and is looking for a way to make exceptions, to ensure small devs are paid even if the threshold is not reached. Just rumours though, so who knows.

"I just fear this is one of those things that sounds a lot more evil than it actually is," added the source.

Earlier this month, it was reported that many indie developers struggled to meet the sales threshold, which Nintendo said was a "private and confidential matter". ...

The US Playstation Blog reports that version 5.50 for the PSP will be coming soon. Apparently it's out tommorow April 21st (as CVG reports). Here's an extract showing the new features:
    • Memory Stick improvements – You’ll be able to create and access sub-folders on your Memory Stick PRO Duo for music, videos and photos. Separately, the available space required to download a file from PlayStation Store to your Memory Stick has been reduced significantly.
    • Internet search for games directly from the XMB – You’ll be able to easily search the Internet for information about your PSP games. Select the icon for the game, hit the Triangle button, and then select [Internet Search] from the options menu to get search results based on the game title. This feature was added to PS3 with the recent 2.70 update.
    • Trend Micro trial – PSP’s Internet browser is a great tool for checking out your favorite Web sites on the go, and we’re teaming up with the Internet security experts at Trend Micro to make the Web browsing experience safer and more secure. With the 5.50 update, you’ll have the option to access a free trial of two Trend Micro services:

Trend Micro Web Security uses Web reputation technology to block PSP owners from accidentally visiting a Web site that may contain malicious content designed to steal personal information and confidential data.

Trend Micro Kids’ Safety uses URL filtering technology to prevent children from accessing Web sites that feature inappropriate content.

Oh and also it'll have the RSS Information Board just like the PS3 has as well and of course most probably will have security updates to top it off.

A sting operation set up by the UK's Trading Standards organization caught 12 retailers selling games with BBFC '18' ratings to a 14-year-old -- specifically, the 14-year-old who volunteered to go undercover for the group. In the US, such negligence from cashiers would merely be disappointing. In the UK, it's illegal.

Of the sixteen retail outlets visited last week by the young narc, only four declined to sell contraband games: Gamestation, GAME, PC World and WH Smith. Some of the other retailers even had automatic warnings on their registers, which the cashiers ignored as they broke the law.

"Given the previous good compliance record with attempted test purchasing of tobacco in Dundee," a Trading Standards rep said, "it is very disappointing that so many large retailers have ignored their own systems in regard to restricted video game sales. Clearly there are issues that need to be addressed, and we will be following up matters with the retailers involved." ...
