SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced that PictoImage, a fun and challenging party game that will sharpen wit and drawing skills is coming to Nintendo DS. PictoImage is a pick-up-and-play puzzle game scheduled for release in August 2008.

PictoImage enables up to eight players to take turns drawing the image of a word generated from a large database while competitors race against the clock to guess the word first. Featuring eight multi-player game modes, players can compete against each other in a variety of party games including Picture Pass, a mode where a subject will be passed from player to player in an image and the last player has guess the subject based on all the drawings. In multiplayer mode players can also create a personal library of words to use when they square off against other players.

PictoImage will also include a single-player and two-player mode where players must guess an image from a library of 300 drawings created by people of all ages. The tutorial mode teaches players how to draw a variety of different images from four main categories (Animals, Objects, Food, and Other).

    Hi

    I've updated Coverflow.
It saves the cover art images loaded from ID3 Tags to the covers folder for faster loading. So it needs a very long time (~2s for one mp3) to load at the first time, but then it is very fast (1/2 s for one mp3) . I have also removed known bugs.

    LuaplayerHM by Homemister is included.

    Installation:
Copy the folder Coverflow to PSP/GAME/
Be sure to have some mp3's in MUSIC/ directory

The PSP is a "gateway drug" into the console world, according to SCEA senior marketing manager John Koller.

Speaking at a roundtable at the 6th annual Wedbush Morgan Securities Management Access Conference in New York City today, Koller told the audience that the PSP has changed the way people think about handheld gaming.

"In the past, it was a small screen experience. It was something that was very difficult to have from a social perspective," he said. "Those things have changed."

Sony has also seen a demographic shift since launching the PSP in 2005. Originally targeting 28-40 year-old business men in the subway on the way to work, the reality has been that PSP has attracted younger and multi-ethnic users who play together.

"It's become, from a gaming perspective, a lot different than I think we even envisioned it when we first launched it," said Koller.

"That's a very good thing. It's expansionary. For us, the PSP is a very high growth, high margin business and something that is a very good product for us."

Koller said that the company looks at the PSP as a kind of "gateway drug" into the console world, as it were, with consumers who have purchased the PSP as their first "console" during the past few years moving on to the PS3 as they go along the adoption curve.

"For us, it has been a really interesting experience. The PSP really parlays well into our broader hardware business."

Michael Pachter, the Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst who moderated the roundtable discussion, specifically addressed the perception that the PSP is a "terrible device that no one owns and is a disaster business."

"If you go look at sell through...and I have North America numbers...If you look at sell-through for PSP, at a much higher price point, it is about six months behind the adoption curve of the Game Boy Advance which averaged about USD 80 cheaper.

"That's not the DS, but the original Game Boy Advance - the Game Boy Advance that had no competition. So, people 'dis' the PSP, but the business is a pretty solid business," Pachter said. ...

BioShock is on its way to PlayStation 3 after all.

Although 2K's press office was unable to comment this afternoon, PSM and Electronic Gaming Monthly both have cover stories on the game in their next issues.

Not many details are being shared online, although EGM does point out that there are "some potential graphical improvements" and that it will be out for the "2008 holiday season".

BioShock came out on PC and Xbox 360 last summer and was one of our favourite games of the year, despite polarising opinion among gamers - and responsible for one of 2007's most memorable gaming moments, which brought the storyline to an impressive head.

For those who never experienced it, the premise was that you survived a plane crash in the ocean and found your way to a utopian underwater city called Rapture where things had gone seriously wrong.

Using a mixture of old-school projectile weaponry and genetic modifications, you had to help the people you met and deal with the iconic Big Daddies - monstrous, lumbering creatures encased in metal diving suits, who escorted twisted little girls around the city harvesting the substance that powered up your own genes, ADAM.

Its path to PS3 has been long and confusing, with designer Ken Levine stating just after the game's release that "there is no secret plan about the PS3 that we're keeping from people".

"There's no PS3 development going on that we're hiding," he added. That's what they all say.

2K Marin is currently working on a sequel, due out in late 2009, and while the announcement made no mention of formats, a job posting suggested it could happen. So, BioShock on PS3 this Christmas, BioShock 2 on PS3, 360 and PC next Christmas? Stranger things have happened. ...

Speaking at a summit yesterday, Nintendo of America's VP of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway said that the Wii had sold more than 50 million units of software during the first 18 months that it has been on the market.

That figure would set a new record - eclipsing the 42 million copies of PS2 software sold during its first 18 months.

Approximately 30 million Xbox 360 games, 28 million original Xbox games and 20 million PS3 games were sold during the same period of time in the lifecycles of those consoles.

While Nintendo's 50 million figure does not include the copies of WiiSports bundled with every Wii console sold, it does apparently include WiiPlay - bundled with the Wii remote - and Link's Crossbow Training - bundled with the Wii zapper. ...

Due in the next 12 months (hopefully by Christmas, but not likely), the US PSP navigation software will be all new and much sexier, powered by Tele Atlas with a solid, easy-to-use UI and great-looking maps. The coup de grace is full 3D walkthroughs of cities, supposedly first in the portable class, at least in the US. Sony is aiming for it to be cheaper than most GPS setups too, like $100 to $200, and you can run it off UMD or memory stick. Plus, it'll come with a carmount.
Overall, it's pretty exciting stuff that could really break open the GPS market. Beyond navigation, Sony is thinking about treasure hunts, friend locaters and other geo-coolness.

Sony is also cooking up a keyboard that would plug into the bottom, the A/V and headset jacks, and would fold up to protect the screen when you're not using it.
