Whispers from an on-going retailer conference could have finally revealed the release date for Metal Gear Solid 4: June 12, 2008.

Word from Destination PlayStation says Sony will also be flogging a hardware bundle complete with MGS4, an 80GB PlayStation 3 and DualShock 3 in the same pack.

This would put both MGS4 and Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3 before the summer - surely a good reason if ever to pick up the hardware.

We're currently on the case with Konami to confirm the news, and as always will let you know. ...

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games has continued its Michael Johnson-like domination of the UK All Formats Chart.

The Wii version dug its spikes in and accounted for 58 per cent of the sales this week, helping it to a second consecutive gold medal and fifth in its career.

More surprising was FIFA Street 3 only managing to debut at 11, despite being rather prominent on football hoardings and in telly adverts. It makes it the worst performing instalment in the series to date, with the original entering at three and the sequel at one.

Unreal Tournament 3 faired a little better, returning to the top flight at nine thanks to the freshly released PS3 version.

The other new entry in the chart was Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, which managed a rather disappointing first week at 37.

Otherwise the charts were rather predictable. Call of Duty 4 continued its well deserved success to hold on at two, Brain Training climbed to three, Devil May Cry 4 fell to four and Wii Play took five.

Game Party did well to jump from 15 to six, Turok fell to seven like a dying dinosaur, FIFA 08 was at eight and The Simpsons rounded the charts off at 10.

    The UK All-Formats Top 40:
    1. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii, DS)

Sony has firmly distanced itself from a listing on hmv.com that puts the price and release date of PlayTV at GBP 99.99 (EUR 130) on March 28.

"We have not confirmed the price and release date of PlayTV to anyone, and that includes retailers," a Sony spokesperson told our siter site Eurogamer.net.

PlayTV is a digital TV tuner accessory for PlayStation 3 that uses the console's hard drive to record broadcasts.

It's due for release in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK later this year, and the company has recently demonstrated how the hardware will not be restricted by copy protection.

Although no official date and price has been announced, it's expected it to arrive later than March, and possibly cheaper than GBP 99.99. ...

Quirky posted this about his Homebrew Web Browser for the Nintendo DS:

Lately I've read some positive comments about my home-brewed web browser on a few different forums and news sites. It's nice to know that people find the software useful! I've also received some suggestions via email on how to make the browser even better for people. One of the interesting things about having a homebrew browser is that it can do things that the official browser can't, like download files to the memory card or provide translations for languages other than the official 5.

So with this in mind, I'm now working on improving the way Bunjalloo downloads files. Currently it's not very user friendly and requires you to download the file, then save it. This is pretty unintuitive - it'd be better to sniff out the MIME-type of file that the user clicks on, then either download and show it for supported image and text MIME types, or offer to save it to disk for "exotic" MIME types. Y'know, a bit like everyone else does it :-)

As for translations, there's not much user interface to translate at the moment, but what is there has now been pulled out into resource files, defined per language. Currently only the languages supported internally by the DS are selectable, and the language displayed can only be altered by changing the DS's language option from the system settings. But this is only a beginning, if there is enough interest I can extend language support to those not built in to the DS via a configuration option. The actual translations into other languages need doing, so if you want to help out let me know. I have English and Spanish done, Italian, French and German are needed, as is Japanese. Sadly Japanese won't work without changing the font, the one I have at the moment doesn't include the full range of universal characters.

Speaking of helping out, keep that feedback coming. Star issues that you think are most important, report bugs, even write patches ;-) There's a new mailing list/forum for discussing Bunjalloo if mailing me is too much hassle. I look forward to hearing from you!

    News/release from MorganDS

For the last couple of weeks I've been writing a class in C++ for storing and evaluating expressions. Today I wrote a very primitive program for the DS that implements the class and performs calculations. Eventually, this application will be a sort of graphing calculator that will include expression evaluation, graphing, and calculus tools like slope fields and Euler's method. It will also be capable of evaluating definite integrals and Riemann sums.

I will post updates as I continue work on this project. Any feedback would be appreciated. In the meantime, check out the calculator. It's compatible with addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, exponents, parentheses, and basic trig functions.

Occasionally Nintendo will release updates to the existing Wii Menu, or enhancements to other system features and channels. This page lists many of those updates, with a brief description of their benefits, and when the updates were made available. Of course when you download the latest Wii Menu Update, you get all of the previous Wii Menu enhancements included. Enhancements to specific channels, like the Check Mii Out Channel, may require you to re-download the channel again to access the updated version.
    Most Recent Update:

    February 25, 2008

    Wii Menu 3.2
This update does not affect any prominently-used features or menus; however it does provide some behind the scenes updates that will improve system performance.

THis system update doesnt affect any of the Homebrew Exploits at this time ...

    News/release from NEON725

OK So I'm not very creative with names. Sorry.

I'm an old hand at coding but this is my first time at PAlib, so go easy on me!

I always had a fascination with momentum and force in a virtual object, so I applied those tricks to a DS game and this is what came out.

The game itself kinda sucks, just avoid the bullets for as long as possible. (You can't even submit high scores yet.)

    D-Pad moves ball.
A button freezes momentum and restarts the game when you die.

EDIT: My next game will be a port from DARKbasic. We'll see how that turns out...

I still have to add some features, but this version is quite playable.

    You can download it here.

    I hope you enjoy it.
